And Dougie Henshall probably has 20 years on James Norton too! He has definitely improved with age, I agree!

Gah, I forgot that the retired policeman had been discounted from the DNA.

Back to the chalk board with photos and question marks and lines for further detectivating.

SpringHen · 21/02/2018 16:08

I DO like the TV perez but still find it hard to reconcile that his heritage is ignored apart from his name on the tv series

In the books his dark looks and heritage shapes his outlook/thinking process throughout.

I cant criticise his performance but fail to believe that there was nobody slightly more diverse looking who could have played it equally well..

Clawdy · 21/02/2018 16:15

Yes, in the books, he is dark and Spanish-looking. And Cassie in the books is just a little girl!

Deux · 21/02/2018 16:24

I’m really enjoying this series, more than the others. It’s got a little touch of Scandinavia-noir about it.

Agree to that Henshall is looking better as he gets older. There was one scene when he was standing in his kitchen and I found myself thinking, nice legs and bum. Blush

I’m not from shetland but the far north and the scenery is so familiar that I always feel a bit maudlin.

A word of caution though, not much of it is actually filmed on Shetland. Anyone wanting that kind of landscape, the Western Isles and the far north west coast of Scotland around the very North coast will deliver.

eloisesparkle · 21/02/2018 17:32

The twin is very pro Malone.
Who is her child's father ?

MichaelBendfaster · 21/02/2018 17:46

I knew he was meant to have Spanish heritage but I didn't realise it was shown to shape his outlook. That's really interesting. Can you give any examples?

ArcheryAnnie · 21/02/2018 20:18

I did not know there was a new series! I bloody love this show. (And it gave me a massive crush on Perez.)

PeerieBreeks · 22/02/2018 20:21

@Deux - you make it sound like the landscape in the series isn't actually Shetland.

Not true! Lots of it is filmed here and I know many of the extras.

SpringHen · 22/02/2018 20:25

Can you give any examples? he identifies with the blow-ins/outsiders/immigrants..

So the lego scene bugs me. How can he have PLANNED for the kid to speak about it at exactly the right point in the conversation so he could dramatically produce it to make his point?

Inkanta · 22/02/2018 20:27

Smile yes that lego scene was a bit much!

SpringHen · 22/02/2018 20:28

Also isnt it crime scene evidence

Here kid have some evidence I kept in my pocket...

Inkanta · 22/02/2018 20:55

"Here kid have some evidence I kept in my pocket.."

I know exactly - that's what I thought, and so what was the point of picking up the lego piece, from the crime scene with a hanky, in the first place.

Deux · 22/02/2018 22:11

@Peerie Breeks. Yes I know there are scenes filmed in Shetland but even the producers say that it was mostly filmed on the mainland. Irvine beach, Renfrewshire, Ayrshire and Glasgow to name a few.

The point I obviously didn’t make clear was to those posters saying how they would like to visit such a landscape. I was trying to say that you don’t have to go as far as Shetland to get it.

ocelot41 · 22/02/2018 22:54

Blimey - what a brilliant first couple of episodes. I am just about managing to get over picturing Sandy with fangs, and still have a massive crush on DI Perez. Why are all the women on Shetland not beating down his door? Why????

MichaelBendfaster · 23/02/2018 10:39

Can you give any examples? he identifies with the blow-ins/outsiders/immigrants..
Interesting. Thanks, Spring.

I'm none the wiser as to whodunnit, but I do wonder why the surviving twin seemed to have set out to look after Malone.

eloisesparkle · 23/02/2018 12:33

From left field- did the twin kill her sister ?

MichaelBendfaster · 23/02/2018 12:33

Someone suggested that earlier, eloise. It is a possibility, isn't it? And does Malone know and that's why she's so keen to look after him?

Inkanta · 23/02/2018 14:51

I am usually slow to figure out who the killer is but I feel it's the twin sister too. Is it guilt why she is being so nice to Malone?

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 23/02/2018 16:13

I was wondering why the police hadn't removed the naked drawings from the Malone house as evidence during the initial investigation? Also wondering if they pictures of the victim or her twin sister?

CoolCarrie · 23/02/2018 16:16

Malone had the drawings hidden and took them out of hiding place and put them on the wall.

SirSidneyRuffDiamond · 23/02/2018 16:26

But they were only hidden in a cupboard weren't they? Surely the house was searched for evidence - his shoes were found there with seaweed on them. If they were of the murder victim that would have been more evidence about Malone's obsession/relationship with her.

Inkanta · 23/02/2018 16:31

I remember the last series of Shetland - and half way through they introduced a whole new bunch of characters! So might happen again.

SpringHen · 23/02/2018 16:47

Thats what I was thinking Inkanta, previously the plot completely changes and moves away from already introduced lines of enquiry
