i enjoyed s1, tho was full of twists and if i rem correctly it was a confusing end

we weren't sure if she killed /tried to kill henry with a bag over his head

but we had proof it was him due to the bite mark on his shoulder

or something like that

the first series is on demand sowill re watch the last episode to refresh memory

and the blonde gf does not make sense in all of this since it was her who waylaid Gail

It was just a huge red herring / improbable coincidence that Gail and Becky worked in the same care home on top of the other coincidence that the father of Gail's baby was also the father of one of the murdered boys.

Piggywaspushed · 13/04/2018 16:25

He WAS?? When was this revealed?

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 17:11

See post by Lovethebubbles
In the first episode the brother of the girl with the baby, went to a man’s house and said he was going to tell his wife what he did. The man said his wife already knew and he called a child to go and fetch the mother. Who came out and spoke to the brother. This chap was later seen, looking after the boy who was then kidnapped in the car, as his mother couldn’t collect him from school. What was that all about?! What was the brother going to tell his wife? And how was the relevant to anything else?

Eric, Gail's brother was talking about Gail getting no maintenance for her baby. That was why he went round to this house. I took it from all of this that the man Eric was shouting at was the father of Gail's baby.

Piggywaspushed · 13/04/2018 17:36

I just thought that was one of Eric's blackmail wheezes. That man was the father indeed of the boy who was kidnapped, escaped, got rescued by the people who got killed at the level crossing by the lorry driver, who was actually the killer because she had over powered and killed the lorry driver (uh huh) and then rammed the car into the oncoming train, putting the boy in a coma (from which it would seem he could not wake up in time to save everyone a lot of bother). This highly accomplished killer left tampax lying around in a random house (as you do) which was not the same wine warehouse she took Edward to, because , after all, there are many abandoned places conveniently rambling and isolated to undertake multiple lobotomies and murderous shenanigans.

Piggywaspushed · 13/04/2018 17:37

Oh, and let's not forget, no one ever seemed to report that boy as missing.

LassWiADelicateAir · 13/04/2018 18:04

Oh, and let's not forget, no one ever seemed to report that boy as missing

Indeed.

Lucie8881 · 14/04/2018 11:25

Did the woman killing the kids also kill the blokes (the one who shot the policeman) girlfriend, and orchestrate the whole blackmail thing?

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2018 11:58

God knows.

I presume yes to the first thing and no to the second. The blackmail/ kids' charity thing was an elaborate red herring and , even though lots of the victims had phoned the charity,it wasn't connected (and the toys : just a coincidence) Humbug and stuff and nonsense etc.

And the symbols in the stomach were never explained.

RebeccaCloud9 · 14/04/2018 12:03

The symbols were explained - an elaborate symbolic sealing in of evil. Part of her ritual to stop them becoming abusers.

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2018 12:33

Yes, I meant how she had any connection to knowing about the symbols wasn't explained. We were just supposed to accept she had read a bit of Dan Brown and fancied doing some complex stomach surgery while she was at it lobotomising...

joystir59 · 14/04/2018 12:36

It was full of loopholes but absolutely brilliant all the same, Anna Friel is completely believable and compelling in the role of Marcella and i hope there is another series as hinted at in the closing scene. We watched the whole of S2 over two nights this week. Wonderful.

joystir59 · 14/04/2018 12:39

I wonder/hope if all lose unexplained threads are resolved in next series. That would be satisfying and clever. But regardless of that I loved it and cant wait for S3

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/04/2018 13:14

On the one hand the symbols were so obscure the anthropologist from the university had to go and dig for information but on the other hand didn't one of the (red herring) lesbian couple have a similar tattoo?

Did anyone see Gogglebox last night ? They were reviewing the last episode and Mary of Giles and Mary commented about "why is she doing that wet knicker walk"?

Lucie8881 · 14/04/2018 14:47

Sorry, I was referring to her blackmailing the man in the cottage and getting him to feed info to the police in return for his gf safe release. It just seemed so elaborate, don't know how she had time to do it all!

Plus the whole rationale was hypocritical. She was doing a service by preventing bad things happening in the future by stopping these future abusers. Then on the other hand she did some pretty awful things herself such as the lorry driver, the couple in the car, cottage mans gf and Gail, plus the potential derailing of a train. I suppose that could be written off as her believing it was necessary for the greater good??

Also, she has got mad skills! The ability to sneak in secured buildings, conceal corpses (she must have re-bricked and plastered the wall in the rockstars flat) along with the coffin/crate in the garage she cobbled together. Impressive!

If they wanted to retain any sort of realism season 3 would have to open with Hugo copping a look of Marcella's face and proceeding to back peddle on the offer of joining the undercover squad. Something along the lines of "sorry, we didn't realise that you had made yourself so distinguishable"

We'll have to wait and see I suppose, lol

Piggywaspushed · 14/04/2018 14:57

Grin lucie , the murderer certainly was a Jill of all trades! Perhaps I should get her round to fix my bathroom ceiling.

But then if one watches enough telly crime dramas, one should know all women are deranged , psychotic villainesses, unless they are the victims (and even then, sometimes) . Hmm

spanky2 · 14/04/2018 16:26

I love Rav's hair. It's so thick and shiny. I fantasise about running my hands through it. It looks so soft. It is really distracting.
I didn't understand how the murderer really had the time to be in all those places. Also I don't know how the police didn't recognise the stench of a rotting body permeating the whole building through the lift shaft.

LassWiADelicateAir · 14/04/2018 16:33

Also I don't know how the police didn't recognise the stench of a rotting body permeating the whole building through the lift shaft

Yes as a cat owner who has done the where did you hide that mouse you brought into the house , killed and forgot about? interrogation of the cat I wondered about that.

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/04/2018 11:06

Gail’s babies father died?

I assumed she had an Affair with the married man in e1

When the brother stromed Round

Yes , so did I.

juneau · 15/04/2018 17:12

I just watched the final episode today - what a load of shite! God, of all the crappy final episodes I've watched of various dramas that one took the biscuit. What about all the other characters? What about the woman with the tattoo? What the hell happened at the end? Why did Marcella stick those scissors in the roof of her mouth? How the hell did that shady guy find her at the end, since she was living rough and was supposed to be dead?

WHAT A LOAD OF SHITE!

Piggywaspushed · 15/04/2018 17:34

Summed it up beautifully Grin

BitOutOfPractice · 16/04/2018 23:30

So so many lose ends.

And we are supposed to believe that this suburban middle class midwife was able to kidnap people, carry out surveillance on the police, set to and run two operating / torture chambers, bury bodies, kill dogs and still be super mum.

What about Eric? And his sister? Let alone the business couple

Remind me not to watch series 3 Confused

LassWiADelicateAir · 17/04/2018 00:18

What about Eric? And his sister?

Gail is dead and Eric will presumably be in jail. I thought Gail and Eric were the best written characters. There was so obviously a believable backstory there. I can imagine them having been in care as children, Eric super protrctive of his kind but vulnerable sister and with his own problems with anger management.

I know they are just fictional but I found it a bit distasteful that they and the baby (Taylor?) were manipulated as pawns to advance the ridiculous storyline.

BitOutOfPractice · 17/04/2018 06:12

If I remember rightly, the end of S1 was equally unsatisfactory

We never got a conclusion to the husband gaslighting Marcella, or of the guy spelling out "no accident", or Eric and Gail, or the lesbian couple wanting the baby, the corrupt policeman, why the it guy was filming her etc etc. Shite.

And now Marcella's face is going to be even more odd (no idea why she did that either)

RebeccaCloud9 · 17/04/2018 06:44

Well the conclusion to the no accident was that it led to them solving it all as they made the connection to who was the murderer (his sister). The murderer then explained it all - her dad abused her brother (Joel) who then started to abuse her. She 'successfully' managed to lobotomise him thus preventing him from becoming an abuser. This started her off on her killing spree.
