CORRIE - the soap with more holes than swiss cheese! *SPOILER-FREE ZONE*

Slightly copying the old thread's title...

Come on Corrie writers! Get a grip! This is the thread to moan about the utter tosh that we end up watching, or in some cases to praise the actors because some of them are actually pretty good! Let's discuss!

OP posts:
thenightsky · 10/01/2018 23:52

Oh thank goodness!

Flossie4 · 10/01/2018 23:57

Oh no - as far as Norris is concerned! I liked his character. Gemma calling him Nozzer was funny.

I am sick of the Street at the moment. I cannot empathise with many of the characters any more. CS's strength was good, realistic characters doing every day things, with the odd scandal. Now it's a permanent scene of crime and full of yoof actors. It's become really awful. I am thinking of giving up on it but like others I have watched it for decades. I have never known it be so badly written, so obviously politically correct and full of dreadful actors.

crazycatgal · 11/01/2018 00:14

We need more of Sally and Tim and we need Norris back. The Phelan storyline is making the street depressing and unrealistic - we need some humour back.

SilenceMeansWhatAreTheyUpTo · 11/01/2018 00:17

When Seb was legging it down the ginnel after escaping out of the window of the gents' loo, was anyone else expecting Phelan to pop up at the other end with "Going somewhere in a hurry, lad?" Grin

AnneEyhtMeyer · 11/01/2018 00:43

Cheers for the new thread - got distracted by Big Brother!

Have just caught up on Corrie. Phelan is like bloody Rasputin.

Watching Eileen's painfully slow brain clicking over made me worry that we've still got weeks / months of this charade.

HouseOfMouse · 11/01/2018 04:17

What is going on with Gemma and her new chap?? It's obviously being brought back to the fore but not sure where it's going (except that it doesn't seem to suggest a happy outcome for Gemma).

They've just done a money-scamming storyline with Leanne, though. There's something a bit odd about Henry, nonetheless - it all seems a bit too good to be true. Hmm

Spam88 · 11/01/2018 08:40

Definitely something weird going on, I wondered if he was a bit ashamed of her so didn't want his friends meeting her, but that doesn't really explain not wanting to go to the wedding because they see those people all the time anyway. I wondered when he was asking about the wedding gift whether he's skint but it's not like Gemma has any money for him to scam off her. Maybe he's married? It's been long enough since the Andrea story line for them to reuse it (longer than they give most storylines in fact - unless there's been another one since then I've forgotten about).

I thought it was a bet at first, Smeaton, but it's been going on a very long time for a bet, hasn't it? Not that I have any alternative theory to offer! Grin

Quite right - Gemma doesn't have any money to speak of so the "bet" theory would hold water. But he's part of the Newton & Ridley dynasty, isn't he? So any such behaviour would bring his family firm into disrepute. And we haven't had any of the covert "mwahaha" looks such as we've seen with the likes of Leanne's conman and Phelan, which only the viewer gets to see. Maybe this could be a Corrie rarity - a happy ending for once?

Smeaton That would be such a sad tale on top of all the dark and depressing stuff Corrie has been throwing at us lately. As you suggested above, wouldn't it be lovely if there's a twist in the tale and he really does fall for her! And feels thoroughly ashamed of himself into the bargain...

StopTheRoundabout · 11/01/2018 17:42

It may be a case of mistaken identity whereby everyone thinks he's part of newton and ridley but he isn't. He is flat broke but playing at being well to do.

ohanabanana · 11/01/2018 18:43

I’m wondering if Gemma’s bloke is doing it for a bet or joke, then she’ll be at a low ebb when she finds out. Ches will get dumped at the alter and they’ll find solace in each other’s company and settle down as a new Jack and Vera style salt of the earth Corrie couple. Just my theory! Chesney’s character was always much better with Gemma than Sinead.

GlacindaTheTroll · 11/01/2018 20:10

Grab-a-grot might be a step too far.

I think it was some sort of bet, but then he's discovered he does actually like her. But he can't let her near his friends because of the bet. Though of course that'll happen by accident, then Gemma will have to decide whether to dump him from on high or if she actually believes that he wants her.

It fits nicely, because Corrie has of course similar before.

scrabbler3 · 11/01/2018 20:21

When Gemma was at that party, he seemed genuinely intrigued by her though. And when he approached her, she looked lovely and was not acting in her usual coarse and aggressive way. He thought she was a pretty, middle-class girl named Jemima. So I don't think it's that horrid grab-a-grot, which rarely lasts for more than one night anyway. I think he may be using her for some dodgy scheme - buying/selling coke or something like that.

I do hope that there were signs of Eileen's old, feisty character coming back in the latest episode. Playing Pat along, pressing his buttons (fix the door now?), quietly arranging to go and see Anna. Please God let her see the light!

ohanabanana · 11/01/2018 22:18

Has anyone noticed that some of the characters have mentioned Todd’s disappearance are in the last few episodes? I’m wondering if Phelan may get wrongly suspected of killing him and summer.
I’m also wondering about the police taking Luke’s laptop - might this have clues about him trying to trace Andy?

Akire · 11/01/2018 22:30

Oh good call banana Todd might have dug the dirt on him. He didn’t particular like him. Eileen was very cool considering what Seb said.

He has to die it’s not like shortage of people Who she could ask to help
Bury a body. Prison would be to good for him. Suspects would be
Eileen
Seb
Todd
His daughter
Anna
Gary
Tim
Faye
Aliyah
Kate
Zedan (if they find out)
Did I miss anyone with motive out?
