Slightly copying the old thread's title...

Come on Corrie writers! Get a grip! This is the thread to moan about the utter tosh that we end up watching, or in some cases to praise the actors because some of them are actually pretty good! Let's discuss!

OP posts:
TattyCat · 29/01/2018 21:30

I think it's perfectly clear that Kate Oates is NOT what Coronation Street needs. The scripts are dire; infantile and vacuous at best. How many people are saying that they feel as though they've missed an episode?! I thought it was me and have been reassured by seeking out these threads that it's not! That's not a good thing though...

When will they listen to the majority? Viewers don't want to see topical stories, such as are being trotted out right now. A slight nod to them, perhaps, but not IN YOUR FACE SHOUTING AT YOU NEARLY EVERY NIGHT!!!!

I will be following through the Phelan storyline, because I feel that I've 'invested' time in it, but after that, I'm switching off after a lifetime of watching.

They continue down this road at their own peril. They are fools.

Akire · 29/01/2018 21:31

Have a missed something but Luke dying they think Because of mindless act of violence. So to raise money they going let people be violent with each other for money.../ ye right

Just popping in to say I’m another who now deletes without watching - after 25 years of solid viewing. I can’t abide Phelan so I’m badically just reading this thread to check when he’s finally gone so that I can check if I want to go back to it.

Loving classic Corrie though Smile

Frillyhorseyknickers · 29/01/2018 22:12

Can you imagine the upcoming story happening 20 years ago? I can't.

Didn’t they run a similar story in Hollyoaks a good few years ago with Gary’s lucy?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/01/2018 22:24

Frilly that’s quite a clue to the spoiler!!

Akire · 29/01/2018 22:28

Can we please stop talking about spoilers in how ever stealth like and clever manner. Just no spoilers at all!! Feel like need start own very strict thread!!!

eddiemairswife · 29/01/2018 22:31

I can foresee that, if Eva has her baby and Toyah passes it off as the surrogate's, in a few weeks, months, years time the child will have some serious illness needing a blood, kidney, liver donor and Peter will find out it has none of its parent's DNA.

LineySt · 29/01/2018 22:45

The Eva-Toyah-Peter story is beyond nuts. The Phelan-Nicola-Gary story is bonkers, as is Eileen-Tim-Steve and Carla-Roy-Aiden.

Akire · 29/01/2018 22:50

Why couldn’t she tell Peter that next week they lost the baby but now they are going have Eva’s? Surely peter will not tell what’s his face. Though granted if was me
I wouldn’t tell Leanne or she blurnt it out next time she’s drunk.

Clawdy · 29/01/2018 22:55

He could easily bump into the surrogate mum any time, as he said he did tonight! What a stupid concocted lie to tell.

Optimist1 · 29/01/2018 23:05

Am I right in thinking that the surrogate's baby was biologically Peter's but not Toyah's? Lots of scope for disaster when he discovers that the baby Eva's going to provide is not related to either of them! Madness, utter madness ...

Akire · 29/01/2018 23:49

Or potential 10y down line she’s can’t have kids anymore when she is settled and married and oh custody battle.

Why can’t she just get fat? Surely people can hid it she’s got nearly half way without single bump. They just need some tabard overalls and she’s covered.

AnneEyhtMeyer · 29/01/2018 23:59

Where is Eva going to hide the pregnancy bump? And the birth?

It is like a plot written by a toddler. None of it strings together and there is no critical thinking at all.

GlacindaTheTroll · 30/01/2018 06:53

I'll say it again,

If folks want to mention or discuss spoilers (including by drawing parallels to other programmes/characters where upcoming incidents have already been done), there's a thread where they are welcome

deloresclaiborne · 30/01/2018 08:08

it seems peter spends more time with Leanne than toyah, I have to stop and think whose with who

qazxc · 30/01/2018 08:22

Is it going to turn into Eva not wanting to give up baby or wanting it back after a few months?
I know boxing story I pants but would quite enjoy a Shona vs Maria bout though.
The only realistic storyline nowadays is craigs mental health ( I'm assuming some type of ocd), not rushed or jammed down our throats.

Kikashi · 30/01/2018 09:09

The Toyah/Eva?baby storyline is beyond insulting to the viewers. the surrogate is going to give birth in Dubai lie?? really,

Agree with what others have said about soap abortions - always a last minute dash to save the baby or trauma following one. No one in the Street (except for Faye these days) seems to use contraception or the MAP or get FFS Leanne was a prostitute and Steve was coming round for sex couldn't she have got a condom in or Steve brought one from the pub?

As for Eva's abortion if she is 17/18 weeks wouldn't she have to have a D&E under anaesthesia or induction and for both I thought they "ripened" the cervix the day before with pessaries (may be wrong) - quite different from Sinead who probably took pills.

ellenanora5 · 30/01/2018 09:11

I only watched the first episode last night, the best bit I've seen in a long time was Tim firing Eileen, the most realistic thing to have happened for months and months.

Kikashi · 30/01/2018 09:14

*get an STD (sorry - got the lurgy)

SumAndSubstance · 30/01/2018 09:40

Please tell me Nicola has come to bring about Phelan's downfall - she can't possibly have had such a totally ludicrous change of heart, can she?!

SumAndSubstance · 30/01/2018 09:42

Oh, duh! I was a bit behind... As you were!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 30/01/2018 09:42

it seems peter spends more time with Leanne than toyah, I have to stop and think whose with who

Me too!! I forgot who was Oliver’s Dad yesterday. It’s Steve isn’t it? I spent last night’s episode feeling very sorry for toyah because she had to watch peter and Leanne with their baby together. Grin

scrabbler3 · 30/01/2018 09:44

Tim sacking Eileen was realistic. I also thought that Fay wanting to leave Weatherfield and start afresh was realistic. IRL those families would not want to be near each other.

I liked Roy's speechto Carla. The kidney storyline is going to be silly and unrealistic probably, but I really like the Roy actor and luckily he gets good lines to deliver.

I thought that the Aliyah actress was pretty good last night.

AliceMumsnet · 30/01/2018 10:22

Ahem - just a friendly reminder for folks not to post or allude to spoilers on this thread.

As mentioned above, we have a juicy spoiler thread over here if you want to join us.
