Slightly copying the old thread's title...

Come on Corrie writers! Get a grip! This is the thread to moan about the utter tosh that we end up watching, or in some cases to praise the actors because some of them are actually pretty good! Let's discuss!

OP posts:
RightAye · 28/01/2018 17:54

I've actually looked up the upcoming storyline spoiler and I'm out, too.

7.30pm? I don't fucking think so mush.

Akire · 28/01/2018 17:54

Good question! She moved in with Kevin and then prison. Faye belongings seem to fit in a rucksack.

Kikashi · 28/01/2018 17:59

What about Kirk, Beth, Craig and Sinead all moving in with Maria. They must have a heap of stuff and a lot of household kit too. When people leave the street they usually get in a taxi with one wheely case -as if!

lizzieoak · 28/01/2018 18:50

I’m going to watch Luke’s funeral (this week in Canada?) & then I’m going to break a 35 year habit and not turn on. I’ll follow on here and unless and until I hear changes have been made (ITV listening to the viewers) I guess I’ll be otherwise occupied in the evenings. Which is not a bad thing as there are too many episodes and I’m sure I could be more productively engaged.

94% - looks as though we're in good company! www.radiotimes.com/news/tv/2018-01-26/coronation-street-fans-have-had-enough-of-pat-phelans-reign-of-terror-storyline/

luckylavender · 28/01/2018 19:44

Oh yes, thank you. I'd forgotten she moved in with Kevin. But where's all her stuff? Sigh!

GrooovyLass · 28/01/2018 20:48

I've deleted the last few eps without watching. I just can't be bothered with Phelen and the Bethany thing has really really pissed me off. Let me know when it's enjoyable again please? I've been watching without a break since I was little in the late 70s and I feel like I'm in mourning rn!

ellenanora5 · 29/01/2018 01:49

Why do we have to see lap dancers at 7.30 in the evening, we know Bethany works there, they don't have to keep showing us the bloody dancers, and in all honesty what Mum gran and great granny would go to the club to check it out and proceed to order drinks and settle in for the show, fuck sake, you'd announce your daughter is under age, they are breaking the law and leave.

It's beyond ridiculous.

As for Tyrone interviewing someone in the pub beer garden, jesus christ!!!! and where is Kevin.

And don't get me started on Gary and the fact he never looks after Jake.

I don't know what the spoiler is but I'm going to look for it, sounds very grim.

Akire · 29/01/2018 02:09

This miss out on potential story lines like Izzy being out of work. She would have to apply for JSA and unlikely to get ESA if she has been working. She’s only one yet to find a new job (this is only realistic part) yet no pressure or stress of realities of looking when you are Disabled.

Also dont like fact that lap dancer is seen as a great job! I’m no prude but come on.

Don’t know why no one else made any of head scarfs after crowd funded. I know was Fiz idea but there was 3-4 of them. They didn’t need thousands to get up and going.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 29/01/2018 02:14

Anna’s flat is now the one billy and Todd moved into.

Clawdy · 29/01/2018 08:20

Those lapdancers look silly too, just standing there glum faced, and sort of vaguely gyrating........guess it's because of the 7.30 time, but what a pointless, pathetic storyline.

LineySt · 29/01/2018 08:34

Yes, because lap dancers always just move about a bit in a desultory manner with all their kit still on for fantastic money. Well known, that. Bethany can get through Wetherfield University on it, PhD in Art Studies.

ChevalierTialys · 29/01/2018 09:14

For those who want to know, here is the spoiler. Feel sick just thinking about it.

I've cancelled my series link on Sky, its not even going to record from today. Not having it on as background noise as that would add to their viewing figures. Will carry on watching Classic Corrie though, and enjoying it FAR more.

scrabbler3 · 29/01/2018 09:26

That spoiler - ridiculous storyline. Extreme, crass and sensationalist. The only good thing about it is the return of an old character and I might continue watching after Phelan's comeuppance for that reason alone.

Akire · 29/01/2018 10:58

Please no spoiler chat- I know you haven’t said but I don’t want to know old people are returning or something horrible is going to happen. I like suprises!!! Fine to leave link but then don’t talk about it even in vague way.

The problem is they will run out of storylines and have to revisit them very quickly (like Toyah/Peter surrogate guff) when they could go a bit slower and show say Rita taking a long time to recover - would Gemma and Jenny step up to look after he,r, the effect of loss of dignity and control? What about Johnnie's MS?? no one ever had a follow through with their condition. Sinead in a wheelchair - up and about, no ongoing spinal issue. David driving - epilepsy forgotten - I could go on ad infinitum.

Kikashi · 29/01/2018 13:22

I think years ago if something violent happened it had huge shock value. For example, when Emily Bishop's husband was shot or Brian Tilsley was stabbed. I think it started to change a long time ago though. I recall when Raquel was raped and it was more graphic than the Corrie norm and a lot of people stopped watching Corrie when it was on air as they sort of had it on in the background with their young children around as it had been seen as okay family viewing

LineySt · 29/01/2018 14:12

Yes I remember when Ernest Bishop was killed. It wasn't graphic as such but it was shocking, and the writers played out the devastating impact it had on people's lives. Not just Emily's, but Mike Baldwin's (his employer), and all their friends. Emily kept saying how senseless it was - such a waste of lives (she included the young men who killed her husband in this).

It was very moving in a way that I don't Corrie think can repeat these days.

If folks want to mention or discuss spoilers, there's a thread where they are welcome

Why can't soaps ever show someone going for an abortion and it being the right decision for them. There always has to be a twist when someone doesn't want a pregnancy.

lizzieoak · 29/01/2018 20:36

I wonder if the Kate Oates regime is consciously picking up and dropping some plot lines? It seems so odd - we get treated to Phelan going on and on and on and on and on, yet Rita’s tumour and Robert’s cancer are over with in about a week?

I’m curious as to their mad thinking. Do they have a checklist of issues & they think viewers are too thick to notice? That has my vote for how they decide to proceed.

SergeantFredColon · 29/01/2018 20:59

Yes crazy and even when people do have abortions it’s always under duress and never what they wanted (Leanne, Tina, Sinead).

blackbunny · 29/01/2018 21:29

Hooray! David finally remembered he has epilepsy!
