Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

OK thank you, that makes sense now. I thought it was brilliant acting tonight with the Dad and the Grandad. I can't believe Lucian Msamati who plays the Grandad is only 41 though, I thought he was quite a bit older!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 22:12

I’ve just realised the relevance of the foster mother telling Kiri she looked like Audrey Hepburn. This is all about Kiri being raised by white people and treated like a white child. Now it seems she was at risk of losing even her name. It is sounding like her foster Mum was on a campaign to completely erase Kiri’s heritage. By dripping little comments like “you look like Audrey hebburn [famous white woman]” rather than Naomi Campbell or Alexandra Burke, someone she has more chance of identifying with.

I had subtitles on too.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 22:14

Janey I wondered at that too. We’re we to assume they were wanking tissues? And why was kiris tshirt in his bin?

purpleme12 · 17/01/2018 22:15

Oh I see

LineysRuff · 17/01/2018 22:17

In tribute to the excellent acting I'm watching it again.

I'm sadly not including SL in that.

Springiscoming123 · 17/01/2018 22:26

probably mad but does the fm thinks her son was using kiri's t shirt to wank over

I didn't think, as she started to smooth the sheets of her son's bed that doing that to a teenage boy's bed is not wise.

What religion did the foster dad say they were? Couldn't figure it out. Sounded like a combination of Amish, Jewish and Atheist.

Foster family are odd as heck. Foster mum seems an obsessive sort. Fabulous house though.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 22:30

I wondered that spring. But she would have washed it if she thought that wouldn’t she?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 22:31

Foster family are atheist according to my subtitles.

StripySocksAndDocs · 17/01/2018 22:32

I didn't think should be I did think.

Clawdy · 17/01/2018 22:32

Foster dad said they are atheists.

Springiscoming123 · 17/01/2018 22:38

yes donnyshe would of unless she is keeping it as evidence/to ask him basically im grasping at straws etc that he had a unhealthy interest in the little girl

Springiscoming123 · 17/01/2018 22:41

what i like about this is it's not all about one actor as such, grandfather etc have good parts and not all about SL as much as i like her

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 22:46

Yes it’s all very weird. We don’t really know what she smelled so we are only guessing. It’s hard to tell anything for sure with this programme.

Did anyone else think we were about to lose the grandad to a heart attack?

Clawdy · 17/01/2018 22:47

If it is the foster family son, I'll be very disappointed, because it's being made a bit too obvious, far too many pointers.

Italiangreyhound · 17/01/2018 22:53

@DonnyAndVladSittingInATree "Now it seems she was at risk of losing even her name."

If she was to be adopted she would almost certainly change her surname, but .ist likely not her first name.

"It is sounding like her foster Mum was on a campaign to completely erase Kiri’s heritage. By dripping little comments like “you look like Audrey hebburn [famous white woman]” ..."

But strong! I think she said Audrey Hepburn because they both had long necks.

Bloody hell I reckon mum would have been washing her hands if she had found something like that, and would have washed top! But no idea what it was!

The bit at the end made me so angry. Why would the granddad tell police officer that son was at his home but not bring him in!

It's very sad none of the birth family felt able to take Kiri on.

Arcadia · 17/01/2018 22:55

I don't think it will be a traditional 'whodunnit' but more an exploration of the issues/media etc. It seems too obvious that it is the foster brother but there might be a further twist.

SoleBizzz · 17/01/2018 22:56

I was so shocked when Kiri's body was found

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 23:01

Just my interpretation italian all lines in a programme are deliberate. The Audrey Hepburn line was written in for a reason. Given the other references to this being about race I think that line is relevant. It was shown again at the start of tonight’s episode.

Lanaorana2 · 17/01/2018 23:03

Thing is, the racial issues are out of date - the rules have been relaxed about multi-racial adoption. They had to be, because most adoptive parents are white and most children are not.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 17/01/2018 23:08

I wonder if the show was written some time ago then?
