Anyone else looking forward to this? The writer also wrote the recent Robbie Coltrane drama, National Treasure, and Sarah Lancashire is always superb.

I'm quite disappointed by that ending!!!

I warmed to the boy even though he was a little strange but with a family like that...

lightcola · 31/01/2018 22:11

I thought they said she was strangled. Surely a post mortem would see a fuck off knock to the head.

colouringinagain · 31/01/2018 22:11

She said I love you too.
He said i told you not to reply, it's not true
He said, I hope that will be true again one day.
Then he walked off to school.
Turned back to look. I got the feeling he thought it was better for her to think he did it rather than know FD did.

But yes yes yes to the manipulation and changing our opinion of him esp re that bathroom scene episode.

SoleBizzz · 31/01/2018 22:12

That was the last episode? Confused

purpleme12 · 31/01/2018 22:12

Yeah but the son can't be all good cos of that bathroom scene and just how they've written him really. Even though he's not right they've made it so he's not 'right'

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/01/2018 22:16

First mention of her banging her head on a rock was tonight!! Why didn’t we hear that in episode one?

I’ve had some corker rows with my DC and they’ve stormed off, slamming doors, packing bags and stropping up off the garden path (very cute indeed Grin) but I can’t imagine ever having that happen, seeing on of them fall and bang their head and thinking “oh fuck, no-one will believe I didn’t do this, I better kill him by strangulation” Hmm

cheshiremama89 · 31/01/2018 22:17

Well that was shit

Itsalottery · 31/01/2018 22:18

What was the bit about the child that was a bit or girl thing? I didn't get that Bit? Thanks

eddiemairswife · 31/01/2018 22:20

At least the dog didn't die.

purpleme12 · 31/01/2018 22:20

I don't feel like I got a lot of things! You didn't come away from it feeling like any of them were very good people

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/01/2018 22:23

itsa he was giving Miriam an example of a moral quandary. He was asking if that was the choice infront of her would she tell the child the truth.

marmiteloversunite · 31/01/2018 22:23

MistyMinge your TV predicted the ending and wanted to save you from the frustration of watching it! Wink

Trailedanderror · 31/01/2018 22:26

Eddiemairswife 😂😂

PoisonousSmurf · 31/01/2018 22:31

This is a bit 'Netflix'. Leave the crowd gasping for more and they 'might' film the rest of it.
There is plenty more to squeeze out of this story...

LizzieSiddal · 31/01/2018 22:36

I heard the actress playing the FM talking on Woman's Hour last week.

She said the writer liked endings which made the person think. So I knew the ending would be a cop out!

I felt so sorry for the son. His mum didn’t like him at all and his dad was a monster. (But great actor) I wonder what kind of adult he will be?

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/01/2018 22:36

Nah, they’ve fluffed it. No second chances with me I’m afraid Grin

Clawdy · 31/01/2018 22:37

Can't see another series here. Don't think that's what Jack Thorne does.

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/01/2018 22:38

I wonder what kind of adult he will be?

Estranged from parents I should imagine. In permanent therapy.

Smokeahontas · 31/01/2018 22:41

Series two - Jessie the dog goes renegade and mauls the foster dad in revenge.

LizzieSiddal · 31/01/2018 22:44

Yes Donnie, let’s hope he gets the therapy he’ll need.

Actually Dr Foster ended up being all about the teenage son didn’t it?

TheShapeofYou · 31/01/2018 22:45

Although the actual truth about how Kiri died was stupid and a cop-out, I actually enjoyed the last episode.

Thought the foster Dad was brilliant when he acted that solo scene in the bedroom - I had goosebumps.

Still don't understand the son's behaviour with his Mum in the bathroom last week, or the way he gave his permission for her to see "Lover Boy" again.

Clapped when Miriam told her bosses they don't get to fire her! Thought the scene in the druggy woman's flat was stilted and forced. They could have found another way of showing that actually, what she had spent her life doing HAD made a difference to a number of people.

roundaboutthetown · 31/01/2018 22:46

Oh, ffs, what a repulsive foster family. And what a pathetic police investigation that didn't pick up foster parents' cars going to and fro and arrested the biological dad on the basis of "evidence" from the foster mum whose house Kiri was dragged out of before she was murdered. Apparently both foster mum and foster dad were at home at the time, but didn't hear each other?!?! What a load of absolute shite. The only consistent thing in the whole chaotic plot was that the entire foster family were deeply unpleasant, incapable of taking responsibility for their own actions, and shouldn't have been allowed to foster children in the first place.

Feelitstill · 31/01/2018 22:47

Was the son also adopted? Sorry, I missed the first episode.

justnippingin · 31/01/2018 22:49

Shit ending, glad about the dog though!

DonnyAndVladSittingInATree · 31/01/2018 22:51

Series two - Jessie the dog goes renegade and mauls the foster dad in revenge.

Grin I’d watch that!

Yes apparently Kiri was seen on CCTV getting off the bus near their house but no CCTV captured the foster dads car taking Kiri away from the house or the foster Mum coming back after following Miriam? And Mum didn’t hear Kiri coming home, packing her bag, telling foster Dad she was leaving? Yeah, sure. Loada balls. Really poorly thought out. The ending felt thrown together as if they had no clue how it was actually going to end until they were filming it.
