Sad to say goodbye to Peter

BattleCunt · 25/12/2017 17:47

I can't wait for the aftermath of men crying over the new doctor, cos they don't like a woman in the role.

BattleCunt · 25/12/2017 17:48

...and Peter has been an amazing doctor. I am so glad we had an older one again for a while, cos the doctor is OOLLLLLLLD.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 25/12/2017 17:49

Missed the first 6 minutes :(

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/12/2017 18:00

I’m watching.
Have to admit I didn’t want a woman because I felt they were being pressured too much to pick one so felt like they did because they have to IYSWIM.

Interesting episode so far.

BattleCunt · 25/12/2017 18:05

I'm glad we finally lived in the now and got a femme doctor, it's about bloody time. Holding on to patriarchal bullshit traditions for the sake of fandom is absurd. Jodie is going to be fantastic.

Anymajordude · 25/12/2017 18:30

Have they got different writers? This episode is pretty boring. Will miss Peter Capaldi but quite interested to see how new lady works out.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/12/2017 18:31

Very low action ep, David Bradley vvgood though.

DoctorTwo · 25/12/2017 18:32

Wow. I laughed more than I expected and didn't cry until Clara appeared. I was really disappointed wrt the ending though.

What a crock of shit! Can’t believe that I’ve waited months for that! Terrible!

Frith1975 · 25/12/2017 18:36

I just kept thinking, “he’s got 10 minutes to die... 5 mins...”’! I wanted to see the new Dr, not listen to some long drawn out ramblings.

Cheguevarahamster · 25/12/2017 18:39

Loved it. Perfect for Christmas.
Jodie whittaker first words channeling Arthur Shappey was a bonus "oh brilliant".
And I loved the reference to the Brigadier.

Jux · 25/12/2017 18:41

considered opinion of new Dr is “actress falls out of TARDIS in deep space with mouth open” —as opposed to “screaming in fear or desperation”—

Episode was maudlin.

abbsisspartacus · 25/12/2017 18:42

Why did the tardis kick her out?

HarrietVane99 · 25/12/2017 18:52

And I loved the reference to the Brigadier.

Best moment of the episode.

I haven't kept up with Capaldi's Doctor, so I wasn't too bothered about the rest of it. I enjoyed David Bradley as William Hartnell, but we've seen him do that previously, so it wasn't a revelation.

Have to admit I didn’t want a woman because I felt they were being pressured too much to pick one so felt like they did because they have to IYSWIM.

Yes.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/12/2017 18:57

I loved it. Loved all the jokes and references but really sad to see Capaldi go. He's been the best Dr of recent years.

Loved seeing Nardole and Bill again (even Clara, I s'pose) and Mark Gatiss was brilliant as always.

Now looking forward to seeing what Jodie does with the role.

iklboo · 25/12/2017 19:00

Sounds like she might be keeping her natural accent as well, if the two words are anything to go by.

Snapespeare · 25/12/2017 19:03

Cannot abide Nardole or sodding Clara. When Matt Smith regenned and Amy popped up, it was beautiful. When Capaldi went and Clara turns up it was uneccesary AND Nardole! Clearly far more important than the glass people taking on the form of River.

Capaldi suffered from awful scripts and rubbish arcs. Jodie will be brilliant by Merit of not having anything to do with Moffat, he ran out of ideas a good two seasons ago.

DinkyDaisy · 25/12/2017 19:03

The first world war stuff made me cry...

Raisedbyguineapigs · 25/12/2017 19:10

I liked bits of it. Some great funny lines and the WWI bit but overall I was a bit underwhelmed. I find the Capaldi era as a whole a bit fanboyish and backward looking (and I say that as someone who got 14/14 on the Doctor Who specialist subject questions on Mastermind BlushGrin ) Roll on Jodie and a fresh new outlook.

DailyMailIsEnemyOfPeople · 25/12/2017 19:17

I liked it (but have had a lot of gin).
What is her 'natural' accent?

MissFitton · 25/12/2017 19:24

I don't think it was a particularly memorable episode. I love PC but think he's been let down in this role which is such a shame as he's such a fan of the show.
David Bradley is brilliant as the First Doctor and I look forward to seeing what JW does with the part.
I realised recently that even though I've watched the CE/DT/MS episodes many many times, the last couple of series I've only watched once. My dcs, given the choice, only want to watch the Tenth too.

But, my goodness, I shed a tear at the WW1 scenes Gin

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 25/12/2017 19:26

Clearly far more important than the glass people taking on the form of River.

I hate that character but tbf, but I'd say that River was more Matt Smith's era, than Capaldi's.

iklboo · 25/12/2017 19:26

Her proper accent is broad West Yorkshire.

specialsubject · 25/12/2017 19:27

Goodbye and good riddance mumbly character-less Bill - who was slightly less annoying in this episode and only managed to mention her sexuality once. A record!

Sad to lose capaldi, a real old school doctor plagued by forgettable scripts.

Not good that the first two words of the new doctor were also mumbled.
