I loved it. I'm really sad to see Stephen Moffat go as he was my favorite DW writer. The new writer wrote that God awful episode of torchwood, so I don't have high hopes

rumbelina · 26/12/2017 06:29

I didn't get the Mary Berry joke either but it still made me laugh out loud and disturb DP

Ifailed · 26/12/2017 07:19

I was underwhelmed, it all looked bit thrown together with a dalek scene that just sort of ended, an over-used reference to the truce in WW1 and various cameos by previous characters. Slightly silly to have someone who can travel through time not know what a sonic screw-driver or an electric guitar is , think a male nurse is unusual etc.

DinkyDaisy · 26/12/2017 07:50

New Doctor Who's hair looks too perfect. If she goes through space with it never getting mussed up it will niggle me.....

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/12/2017 07:59

Why do they keep regenerating inside the TARDIS, when they keep doing such damage to her

I said the same but 10 year old DD informed me it's an excuse for a new interior.

I have a Yorkshire accent but I absolutely cannot deal with someone trying to repel Daleks and save the universe with a voice that sounds straight out of Wallace and Grommet

What a ridiculous thing to say. Did you feel the same about Eccleston's Manchester accent?

HardAssSanta · 26/12/2017 08:04

Really enjoyed it here, a fairly straightforward storyline with none of the usual Moffat-twattery, and glad to see the end of Capaldi.

Raisedbyguineapigs · 26/12/2017 09:36

I failed yes that point never occurred to me. He's not your average middle aged man from the 60's. He's from another planet, he can see all of time and space. I doubt he's constrained or shocked by progress!

rosy71 · 26/12/2017 09:49

I enjoyed it although I would agree it was quite slow moving. The connection to the Brigadeer was great. I liked the ending. The tardis always crashes when he regenerates. Matt Smith also fell out but managed to hang on in the doorway as it careered over London. I'm looking forward to the new series.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/12/2017 09:55

I can't now remember what the point of the dalek scene was and what were the sort of large insecty things scuttling around one of which imitated the Alien and clamped on to the Captain's face?

The old doctor not knowing about modern things was nonsense.

specialsubject · 26/12/2017 10:16

Impressed people can detect the accent from two mumbled words!

No reason the doctor has to be from darn sarf, and hopefully no more uber-trendy street type companions for a while.

CeeBeeBee · 26/12/2017 10:30

Isn’t Bradley Walsh going to be a new companion? Really looking forward to seeing him in is as I love watching him on The Chase.

cafeaulaitpourvous · 26/12/2017 10:42

Watched it on catchup last night

Bawled my eyes out - much to DHs amusement.
Story was a bit meh but losing peter capaldi has been the last straw for me. I would just watch him walking up and down.... he is my big crush!

ChiefClerkDrumknott · 26/12/2017 10:52

I loved and may have cried a little Blush Very sad to see Capaldi go; when he's given a decent script he's probably my favourite of the modern Doctors

Looking forward to seeing what the new Doctor is like Smile

LoniceraJaponica · 26/12/2017 10:55

They made quite a big thing of her being from Yorkshire in the media though. She comes from near where I live so I will be pleased to hear a Yorkshire Dr Who.

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 26/12/2017 11:11

He is. I really don't like him.

Gingernaut · 26/12/2017 11:11

The 'good' dalek came from a previous episode.

The bug things were the organic parts of the daleks sent to destroy it.

Willow2017 · 26/12/2017 11:38

The insides of daleks are organic. The spidery things were left 'homeless' after the mechanical bit was destroyed.
Thr Dr used the dalek collective memory to find out who the glass woman was originally.
The good dalek was from previous episode, wasnt it half dalek half human hybrid?

specialsubject · 26/12/2017 12:02

Apparently Rusty is from the second capaldi episode 'into the dalek'. Which passed straight through my brain without sticking, as has sadly been the case with most episodes matt smith on.

It did introduce Clara's wooden boyfriend but that's about it.

QuiQuaiQuod · 26/12/2017 14:43

think I'm done with Dr who now - too complicated, too boring and too full of its own importance and 'messages'

^^ and complete and utter tokenism.

DW from day 1 has always incorporated strong females/diversity, but now, its just the pc madness lobbyfied.

Im sticking to my classic MALE MALE MALE docs, 1-7.

aand c;assic MALE MALE MALE MASTERS!!!!!

distn even bother watching it last night. cant stand DB playing my beloved Hartnell, the actors chosen for Ben and Polly were notyhing like them, and i m not having me lovely tenth planet story ruined by these nothing writers and actors.

Loadedllama · 26/12/2017 15:26

Courtney Christopher Eccleston was one of my least favourite doctors. Just didn’t fit the part at all imo. I didn’t like his accent or anything else that he brought to the role. Dr Who needs gravitas imo. Yorkshire accents and Manchester accents don’t sound right for the character imo.

LoniceraJaponica · 26/12/2017 15:36

" Yorkshire accents and Manchester accents don’t sound right for the character imo."

I think they do, but I live in Yorkshire so it sounds right to me (disclaimer - I'm from South London so I'm not being partisan or anything)

Loadedllama · 26/12/2017 16:19

Lonicera. I was born in West Yorkshire and have lived here all my life. I have a Yorkshire accent. I don’t want Dr Who to have one though because to me it just doesn’t suit the character.

Loadedllama · 26/12/2017 16:22

QuiQuaiQuod I’m with you here. I know in theory the Doctor could come back in many forms but why isn’t he allowed to stick to his male identity?

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 26/12/2017 16:40

Dr Who needs gravitas imo

Ah, gravitas. That was totally missing from Sean Bean's portrayal of Ned Stark in GoT which was completely down to his northern accent and him sounding all 'Wallace and Gromit-y'. Not.

Chocolatecake84 · 26/12/2017 17:09

Another one here who was underwhelmed by this episode. I think it had the potential to be an amazing episode but in reality I found it extremely dull. I felt there was simply no spark between anyone, there was not really a story and I didn't really care about any of the characters.

Some things I liked:

  • the reference to the Brigadier
  • the 12th Doctor's final moments
  • Clara appearing one final time. I like this as it means each Doctor comes full circle (Ten started and finished his stint with Rose, Eleven started and finished his stint with Amy, Twelve started and finished his stint with Clara).
  • the final scene

I have been finding the show dull for a few years now. I think PC is a fantastic actor but I do think he has had way too many appalling scripts and story arcs. The stories have, on the whole, been boring and unmemorable and I haven't really cared about the characters. It's also become too complex and I find it difficult to follow. I like a bit of philosophy but I don't want to think that much whilst watching a family friendly show on a Saturday night.

From little we were showed I think Jodie Whittaker was awesome but I'm withholding any more judgement until I've seen her first series. Out of Nu-Who I hated all the new doctors and then came to love them. I will definitely be giving Jodie a chance.

I don't see the problem with a female doctor. It's been on the cards since the 1980s. Time Lords can regenerate into either male or female.
