I must admit I did start to cry when the singing started.

Apart from that, it was all a bit ‘meh’.

It feels like each regeneration is trying to go on longer than the last, longer drawn out speeches, more and more ex companions popping up. I was a bit disappointed as I liked Capaldi - just not the writing so much.

Did she get kicked out of the Tardis at the end? That’s what it looked like to me.

rogermooresfifthwife · 25/12/2017 19:30

I liked the Mary Berry joke.

I think it really picked up with PC and Bill - I'll still be watching to see how Jodie does but I think not having too high expectations is the way to go!

misskelly · 25/12/2017 19:38

I quite like it, thought it was a bit low key but there were good jokes. I also liked the music, sounded like an updated version of the music from Doomsday.

DailyMailIsEnemyOfPeople · 25/12/2017 19:40

Is getting kicked out of Tardis supposed to be significant, like Tardis not sure if Tardis likes girl Dr?

Willow2017 · 25/12/2017 19:44

I liked it but annoyed Peter has gone. He should have had more brilliant episodes than he got, he would have aced them.
Loved all the past references and nod to brigadier.
And the whole analogy with war and his life was clever. The xmas day armistice had me crying too (every sodding time its mentioned!!)
I am sure new Dr will be good but i cant lust about travelling through time and space with a lovely bloke if they are a woman! Some things dont need to be changed just for the sake of it just to spoil my fun

BestIsWest · 25/12/2017 19:45

Well, I completely missed it. Fell asleep after 3 minutes and woke up just in time for the last 5. Will have to watch again tomorrow when I haven’t eaten so much.

MissFitton · 25/12/2017 19:47

misskelly - I noticed the music too.

I'm spending this evening watching Day of the Doctor. Nothing to do with the tenth. No siree. Hmm

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2017 19:53

I chuckled at the one liners, but found the episode very boring. The scripts are try too hard these days. I hope it picks up in the next episode.

shakeyourcaboose · 25/12/2017 20:01

Am so not sure how I feel about PC going, but absolutely yes to those who also got emotional at the Christmas Day Armistice during Great War. It's a piece of history that always floors me, as does Silent Night/Stille Nacht when ever I hear it.

DrinkFeckArseGirls · 25/12/2017 20:07

Loved Peter Capaldi’s Doctor, devasted to see him go Blush
Not sure why the heck they squeezeebin Clara in there, she hanged on for a series to long as it was.
Don’t mind Jodie Whittaker but Capaldi was my Doctor.

Snapespeare · 25/12/2017 20:14

River - not as much screen time as —the insufferable— Clara, but 24 years on darillium. (Although when Bill was in shadows before being revealed as Bill 2/3rds of DCs yelled ‘oh no! Not River!’)

HangryHanderSonOfGod · 25/12/2017 20:17

Longest goodbye since David Tennant. I hadn't realised the Tardis had kicked her out. I thought she'd lost control of the thing and was chucking things at the telly as I imagined the haters saying Women drivers or some drivel. I loved Neil Gaiman's episode with the tardis in her female form though no idea whether it fits with being capricious/jealous - unless it's just a nod to the antifemaleWhovians.

EllenJanethickerknickers · 25/12/2017 20:47

DS3 said they were playing Rose's theme music at some point after the regeneration? It did look to me as if the Tardis Tardis threw her out.

TheDrsDocMartens · 25/12/2017 21:18

Tardis went a bit crazy during MS Regeneration so I assumed it was that and the Dr wasn’t focused enough to manage it.

SouthWestmom · 25/12/2017 21:21

I hate the use of the Christmas Day Armistace in irrelevant art - it feels like it's there as a crutch to prop up a crap script. Sledgehammer a bit of tear jerky stuff in and no one can criticise.

I think I'm done with Dr who now - too complicated, too boring and too full of its own importance and 'messages'

LassWiTheDelicateAir · 25/12/2017 21:46

I agree. It is cheap and manipulative.

One of the best along with the Vincent episode.

And damn, Clara just had to be there. I felt sorry for Bill- memories of Bill weren't enough; bloody Clara had to be there to validate the concept.

LoniceraJaponica · 25/12/2017 22:22

Noeuf has described exactly how I feel about Dr Who.

ButtMuncher · 25/12/2017 22:32

Agree with you Noeurf. I want to like the reference to WWI but it felt gimmicky - and also cheapened it slightly - yes they sang, yes they played football, yes it was armistice - but drawing and hugging? Seemed OTT (even if it did happen) for the feature.

I hated Nadole as a character, so will be relived to see the back of him. Just felt like Matt Lucas being Matt Lucas (not bad, just overdone now).

Clara, eh. Never had an issue. Made sense being PC regeneration episode. DW has a habit of bringing oldies back (Rose ad nauseam anyone?) 1st Doctor was good. Bill OTT as ever and ugh at the sexuality reference - how many times now....

Overall meh. Didn't hate it but didn't enjoy it at all. Moffats writing has been shit and it's become a victim of its own self indulgence (see Sherlock, another series Moffat has ruined). PC was a good doctor but wasn't utilised properly - had he played under Russell T Davis's scripts I think he would have fared better like David T.

Jodie looks grand. Not sure how it'll go but I'll be tuning in regardless.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 25/12/2017 22:52

This is the first time DH hasn't watched the Christmas Day Dr Who, it's usually a Thing in our house ( dinner after dark and before Dr Who, DS and DH huge fans until now Xmas Sad )

SouthWestmom · 25/12/2017 23:10

Glad I'm not alone, I was beginning to feel old!

Jux · 25/12/2017 23:33

Agree with everyone!

I suspect Moffatt’s brief was to kill off Dr Who in it sentirety, slowly but surely so the audience would just give up on it. He’s shit, and should be sent to pasture.

Davros · 25/12/2017 23:33

DD also said they were playing Rose's theme towards the end. I'm cynically wondering why JW is blonde in it, her hair is naturally dark I think? If DW has to be a woman I vote for Joanna Scanlan. Didn't enjoy it much but it improved towards the end

Gingernaut · 25/12/2017 23:48

I liked his farewell speech.

The connection to Lethbridge-Stewart is nicely explained.

Testimony is creepy.

Why do they keep regenerating inside the TARDIS, when they keep doing such damage to her?

ChoccyJules · 26/12/2017 00:00

I liked how they gave Peter a version of one of his own lines about children sometimes being able to hear his name if the stars align.
Did not feel we needed to see Clara, unless as PP mentioned, we also got River, given how long they spent together on that 'last night'. Maybe I've forgotten how long Clara travelled with him, I've got to admit there has been so much less memorable stuff recently (whereas I could probably describe every CE and DT episode I ever saw).
Am not a fan of Gatiss, I'm afraid, he seemed crowbarred in there by his mate for his final episode, hasn't he been in DW enough?!
I didn't understand the Mary Berry joke, was it a reference to age?

Loadedllama · 26/12/2017 00:04

I really enjoyed right up until JW uttered her first two words in a broad Yorkshire accent.

I’m from Yorkshire. I have a Yorkshire accent but I absolutely cannot deal with someone trying to repel Daleks and save the universe with a voice that sounds straight out of Wallace and Grommet. Why don’t they have done and give her a pair of ferrets for Companions and a never ending supply of Yorkshire puddings. Nope. I can’t cope. I’ve watched DW for 52 years now and as much as I feel I’m a traitor to the sisterhood, I want him to stay male. Plus Peter Capaldi is one of my favourite Doctors. Right up there with Jon Pertwee and Tom Baker. I’m gutted.
