Oh of course, seneca you're right! I'm obviously thinking of someone else (don't know who though Grin).

TempusFuckit · 11/12/2017 14:44

Ah, just watched it and was impressed. I'm glad they saved so much to the last episode, it made it really pacey. Perhaps a little too rushed at tying up Willoughby's storyline - but still a far, far, better version than the books.

I did have to concentrate hard to suspend my belief at the storm dive-rescue - the storm seemed to have conveniently disappeared when they surfaced - but I don't mind that so much. After all, I'm happy to suspend it for the time travel, magic healing and prophecies . . .

Great to see Catriona Balfe nominated for the Golden Globes today too. I imagine the fandom are going to go crazy over Sam Heughan's "snub".

quirkychick · 11/12/2017 16:25

I enjoyed it, but really need to rewatching without interruptions.

quirkychick · 11/12/2017 16:26
  • rewatch, obviously...
LonelyOversharer · 11/12/2017 16:57

Yy quirky I got a quick sneaky watch in, but ffs can't anyone leave me alone? No one ever needs me the rest of the time. A first watch of an episode and gah, my opinion is required on everything.

From what I saw I loved it really. Good Mr Willoughby finishing, not sure we needed the slavey bit though.

Will she never do as she's told? Go below decks. Like now. No, now! Shit, now she's gone bloody overboard. They pulled back from the rescue to show them in the eye of the storm. Where it would be oddly calm and sunny. But I still cannot believe two people and a couple of casks would drift at the same rate as a ship to wash ashore on the same bit of beach. And thats happened twice.

I missed Ian getting his penecillin shot, and them discussing Gellis' clear madness. And in the book didn't she use an axe not a machete?

Thought they wrapped up LJG and J very well. It looked like it was going to be all huggy kissy, but it was done very well. LJG actor is a beautiful man, but had way to much lippy on for me!

Marsali · 11/12/2017 18:40

OK from me. Not fussed with all the magic rituals... preferred the last twenty minutes with Jamie and Claire.

The trailer for Season 4 looks really good. I am very sad it's finished... will dig out the books for a reread.

I particularly appreciated Claire's expression when Mr Willoughby announced his love for Margaret. It was a proper WTF Grin

LittleDorritt · 11/12/2017 20:50

I quite liked it. I'm not sure I loved it.
The storm was beautiful but how would they get through the second half of it on a plank of wood?? And some serious suspension of disbelief that he would be able to find her.
Willoughby storyline definitely a hundred times better than the book. Someone upthread called it to perfection, the way that it would play out!
Not enough Fergus Wink
Geillis' hair was looking good
At the risk of sounding like a Heuligan, or whatever they're called, I didn't like it that Jamie just introduced himself at the end, without knowing where they were. That was such a powerful moment in the book for me.
I also thought the cave would be more... I don't know. More. More threatening. More eerie. Would have a greater impact on Claire. Isn't she nearly unconscious with the power of it by the end, in the book?
Sam was looking as fine as ever though.
September feels SO far away Sad

LittleDorritt · 11/12/2017 20:52

During the storm scene DH was shouting "Oh my god, she is SUCH a pain in the arse!! GET BELOW!" Grin Grin I love that he's secretly as invested as me Grin

DryWhiteagainW · 11/12/2017 21:11

I was all ready —pjs on, tea, family banned— for a 90min fest Sad
Loved it.
Agree that Jamie rescue. Was a bit far fetched but tbh my disbelief has been suspended since episode 1 season 1.
Claire.....yup stay below, they really didn’t need a surgeon at that point, I’m sure surgery and any use of needles would have been impossible anyway.
Jamie’s s easickness. Without MR W’s acupuncture west emed ok.
Agree ....I needed more Fergus and LJG and less man with crocodile on head.
Have noticed that every time c and j have great se x something bad al ways happens after wards.
Young Ian was feisty, love him.
But............I loved it.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/12/2017 21:38

I agree. The magic nonsense was. .. well, more DG nonsense. The ending saved it for me - I happily suspended all disbelief for the beautiful rescue scene, and I loved the final scene on the beach.

I like Jamie & Claire's relationship best when there's a bit of angst in it - whether it's unfulfilled lust, or 20 years' longing, or the inconvenient matter of a 2nd wife, or thinking your spouse has drowned ... not the happy sex scenes, which make me cringe a bit (is there something wrong with me?)

I also loved LJG absolutely skewering the Captain when he tried to take Jamie away.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/12/2017 21:43

I've enjoyed Season 3 very much, episodes 6 & 8 being my favourites, but nothing will ever beat the first season and J & C getting to know each other. (Also personally I think SH is at his very loveliest in season 1 Smile )

LittleDorritt · 11/12/2017 21:50

They make me cringe too June. They never used to but this season... ick. The only sex scene I've liked this time around was the drunk turtle soup one.

gamerwidow · 11/12/2017 21:52

I liked it, much better ending for Mr Willoughby and Margaret and Geillis was her brilliant bonkers best.
I thought it was a shame they changed the end with Jamie giving his name before finding out where they were. It took away the power of them finally finding a place to be free.
Overall though this season so much stronger than season 2 though they are going to struggle to mach season 1 I think.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/12/2017 21:55

I didn't like the turtle soup one Blush I find CB a very unconvincing drunk.

Actually I liked the sex scene on the first ship, where they bumped into each other in the passageway then snuck off for a quickie Grin

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/12/2017 21:56

not the happy sex scenes, which make me cringe a bit (is there something wrong with me?)

Well, if there is, there's something up with me too. I found it a bit toe-curling as well.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/12/2017 21:59

My favourite ep was 8 too I think (the Lallybroch one?).

Has anyone seen the trailer for Season 4? It's only about 10 seconds long, but it's terrible. I suppose partly because they haven't finished filming it all yet.

JuneFromBethesda · 11/12/2017 22:05

I always agree with you Courtney Grin

I just watched the S4 trailer - I agree, it's terrible. Hardly worth making really! Then I stumbled across the 'fanmade' trailers - has anyone seen these?? So weird. Somebody's patched together a trailer for S4 using random scenes from previous seasons, plus a completely different 'Brianna' and 'Roger'. It's a bit like those photo romances they used to have in girls' magazines. Some people have way too much time on their hands ...

LittleDorritt · 11/12/2017 22:10

Yes, it's awful! Cringe.

madamefraser · 11/12/2017 22:11

Only just about to watch the finale for the 'first' time - I'm going in !

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/12/2017 22:17

The trailer isn't going to entice anyone who's never seen it into watching is it? Grin

It's so weird. Claire looks about 20 years older than Jamie, is talking to him like he's about 5 and Jamie's accent is really odd. And it looks like it was shot on someone's phone Confused

breadwidow · 11/12/2017 23:12

God that trailer was crap. I hate it when claire is patronising & that was off the scale

Final episode was pretty good but not great, plus I was hoping for 90 mins (or at least 75). All the magic woo is too much for me. Overall nout beats season 1.

madamefraser · 11/12/2017 23:30

The episode - wow I think I'm gonna have a lie down after that a lot to process . Thought best episode of whole season (apart from reunion) and liked the totally odd at times-- action and closeness .
Storm too full on - felt sick just watching !
Trailer - yes jamie was like a little boy - Claire has suddenly got loads older whilst J continues to look like a sun kissed God Smile

madamefraser · 11/12/2017 23:31

Ooops too many crossthroughs got bit carried away HmmWine

MoNigheanDonn · 12/12/2017 09:43

Season 1 is definitely the best. I've started book 1 - most of the dialog is just lifted straight from the books, it's weird. Sam is lush.
