Is there some significance to Claire's doctor friend Joe from Boston sharing a surname with Geillis' latest (late!) husband, Abernethy?

gamerwidow · 09/12/2017 11:30

Yes it is implied he is descended from one of her slaves. I think Claire comments that one of the slaves maybe Ishmael has the same voice as Joe?

SallyGardens · 09/12/2017 12:41

Also, Joe's son changes his name to Ishmael as the last ancestor he could trace.

LonelyOversharer · 09/12/2017 13:03

So there really was only five people in Scotland and twelve in the new world! It makes casting for extras easy I suppose.

quirkychick · 09/12/2017 14:46

I know, they travel round the world to Jamaica, go to the ball, thinking they know noone and who should they bump into but Lord John Grey, Geillis and the Campbells fortune telling double act. Things like that happen to me all the time Grin.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/12/2017 15:11

I've lived in the same village as my friend's ex husband for 5 years and bumped into him once.
My version of Outlander would be very dull based on my experience of coincidences!

LittleDorritt · 09/12/2017 15:47

My Dad once went to Morocco and as he got off the plane he got halloo'ed at across the tarmac by some ex-neighbours from down the road. That's probably our closest experience to a Gabaldon plot line.

SallyGardens · 09/12/2017 22:49

On the ferry to France a couple of years ago, we met our across-the-road neighbours and DH's aunt and uncle.

Lessstressedhemum · 10/12/2017 09:47

See, it is a small world! When we went on a nile cruise a few years ago, when dh worked in a travel agent, we were seated at the same table as a couple who were two of his regular customers for luxury holidays. He had actually sold them the currency for the trip. That was embarrassing!

MoNigheanDonn · 10/12/2017 13:50

Can't believe it's less than 24hrs until the finale. Good reports on Twitter. Staying away from Twitter until I've watched

I have a feeling I may have to wait longer. All this snow is looking like schools may be closed tomorrow. ARGHHHH!!!!!

SenecaFalls · 10/12/2017 15:31

It was SOOO good!

mateysmum · 10/12/2017 16:18

Seneca - you naughty tease!

MoNigheanDonn · 10/12/2017 16:23

Seneca promise?! I so can't wait

SenecaFalls · 10/12/2017 16:45

Can't wait for y'all to see it so we can talk about it. I think the book lovers will be pleased, too.

MoNigheanDonn · 10/12/2017 21:22

Short cast video on Twitter telling folks to watch the finale. New clothes!

Melty · 10/12/2017 21:40

Yes, watched, happy, satisfied. Good job done by all cast. :)

mateysmum · 11/12/2017 06:48

It's loaded now. just waiting for DH to bugger off so that I can watch it in peace.

Lessstressedhemum · 11/12/2017 10:03

That was really, really good. I am sad now, we have to wait until September. Sam was looking fine this episode Blush

MoNigheanDonn · 11/12/2017 10:55

Really enjoyed it! I even shed a wee tear at the end.

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 11/12/2017 13:23

I'm going to go against the grain and say it was ok but not brilliant Blush

I didn't like the slave bonfire thing although I can't put my finger on why at the moment. And YTC appearing out of the bushes was another of those enormous coincidences and a bit daft.

'I realised the pool was the portal' Yeah, no shit Claire. Enough with her voiceovers. They aren't needed.

The storm was well done and that's obviously where the CGI budget went (to the point where dead Geillis looked like a shop dummy) but ffs Claire, do as you're told and get down below!

The drowning scene, while visually stunning, was a bit ridiculous. How on earth would he have found her? Also, I thought Jamie couldn't swim (or am I confusing him with someone else?).

Love Young Ian after a shaky start though. Also wish there'd been a lot more Geillis this series too. I'm looking forward to next series but I wish they'd start moving away from the books.

SenecaFalls · 11/12/2017 13:31

I think I may have mentioned that I grew up in coastal Georgia. So seeing the beach (even knowing it was a South African beach) and hearing them say "Georgia" was a thrill.

Dunlurking · 11/12/2017 13:43

I'm with Courtney on this episode. Can I add that the lingering looks in the last 2 episodes have been laughably long, taking me out of the moment completely. Yes, we get it! I liked the Willoughby story rewrite. Much better than DG's version.
Also, did I miss something? When did Claire actually tell Gills she was from the future as well? Am I having a brain fail moment and it happened in the last episode, or did it happen during that nice little chat in Geillis's house at the beginning of this one, without us seeing it? Last week was very chaotic for me so perhaps I just didn't take it in last week Confused Please fill me in, someone.

I have enjoyed the series and can't wait for the next.

SenecaFalls · 11/12/2017 13:50

Also, I thought Jamie couldn't swim (or am I confusing him with someone else?).

Jamie can swim. Remember his swim to the island to find the treasure? It's in the book as well.
