New thread lassies for all things Jamie and Claire (and all things in between).

Only two episodes left! Hope everyone enjoyed episode 11.

The trailer is sooo good! I can't wait.

quirkychick · 11/09/2018 14:32

Squeeze! Love that trailer. Just rejoining this thread, I have been lost down a GoT rabbithole for months and need a new (or to return to an old) obsession. That's this winter's viewing sorted Grin.

quirkychick · 11/09/2018 14:32

That should read Squeee Blush. Too excited to read before posting...

QueenOfTheAndals · 11/09/2018 14:39

Am interested in the new series, even though it picks up where my interest in the series tailed off. Think I read Drums of Autumn and gave up after that.

susurration · 11/09/2018 16:37

@quirkychick I'm down a GoT rabbit hole at the moment, I've started from the beginning again. Hoping to be done before Outlander starts again.

quirkychick · 11/09/2018 17:03

susurration me too, I went back to the beginning with books and show. I've nearly finished ADWD and have just started Season 7. Plus lots of YouTube and blogs...

I read all the Outlander last year, I really can't go back and read them all again, I've got so many other books to read. I might need to read a summary of Drums of Autumn, to remind me what happens, is that the interminable Gathering one?

susurration · 11/09/2018 17:16

I think the gathering (with all of the napkins and four day walks from one end of the camp to the other) is book 5? Book 4/season 4 Is when they meet Jocasta and Brianna travels too.

I'm on season 4 of GoT at the moment, and reading a lot of stuff on Quora. I never could get into the books, too much back and forth between so many character POV was confusing me!

Florabella · 11/09/2018 17:22

I only discovered Outlander at the start of this summer and have now watched all the seasons (possibly twice) and read all the books too. I can't wait for season 4!!! Haven't managed to find anything as good to fill the gap until then

quirkychick · 12/09/2018 06:45

I will check out Quora.com, thanks, susurration.

A quick look at the Outlander wiki tells me that Drums of Autumn is Brianna and Roger going back (I hope they do something with the Roger storyline a bit...), Jamie and Claire meeting Jocasta etc., finding Fraser's Ridge and then the Gathering, which I hope they edit properly!

Lessstressedhemum · 12/09/2018 11:45

The Gathering is the beginning of the Fiery Cross. I quite like all the minutiae of it, but I know that that is a bit unusual, shall we say. Drums ends with them journeying to the Gathering on Mt. Helicon, I think.

quirkychick · 12/09/2018 12:02

Ah thanks, Less, Outlander wiki was not very clear. I read all the books in one huge binge on Kindle last year and they merged into one Grin. Trying to resist rereading them all as I'm just finishing a huge reread of A Song of Ice and Fire aka GoT (I must have a thing about massive, 1,000 page books with complicated plots Hmm).

Lessstressedhemum · 12/09/2018 12:26

I know what you mean. Song of ice and fire might as well be on huge book because that's how it is in my head. Just like Wot or Sword of Truth. It's all a blur!

susurration · 12/09/2018 13:00

I'm looking forward to seeing how Jocasta is portrayed in season 4. I can't get Maria Doyle Kennedy's portrayal of Catherine of Aragon out of my head whenever I see her. It'll be interesting to hear her Scottish accent and how it compares to her natural one. I couldn't tell much from the trailer.

As for Quora and GoT, it's a whole new rabbit hole of its own! I love it. I wonder if there is an Outlander section.

Lessstressedhemum · 12/09/2018 13:12

I don't understand why they need to get Irish folk to play Scots. Surely there are Scottish actresses who could do the job.

Florabella · 12/09/2018 13:26

I read that Murtagh may be appearing again in season 4. I loved his character, but if true it will be interesting to see how he fits in as he isn't in the books

QueenOfTheAndals · 12/09/2018 13:28

Maria Doyle Kennedy gets around doesn't she? Not in a bad way of course but she makes an appearance in so many TV series, from Downton to Orphan Black!

Lessstressedhemum · 12/09/2018 13:42

I think Murtagh might take Duncan's place.

susurration · 12/09/2018 13:45

I agree, I think Murtagh is going to take Duncan's place. I guess it's easier than introducing a new character?

I think Maria DK is a fab actress. Not how I imagined Jocasta though.

quirkychick · 12/09/2018 14:19

It does look as if Murtagh will replace Duncan. I suppose it adds extra continuity to Season 4 to have a familiar character and Murtagh is excellent.

Not how I imagined Jocasta, either, but it will be interesting to see.

Florabella · 12/09/2018 14:51

I guess my only issue with Murtagh replacing Duncan is that I don't imagine him having an affair in the (distant) future - Murtagh just wouldn't! (Of course they could change that too, if the series even gets commissioned that far ahead)

Lessstressedhemum · 12/09/2018 16:34

Especially with a young girl, Flora. Murtagh just wouldn't. Maria DK is not how I imagine jocasta at all! But time will tell.

crumpet · 13/09/2018 15:21

I am looking forward to seeing Jocasta, and what they do with Murtagh. If not Duncan he could be one of the Ridge’s residents I suppose, replacing Higgins perhaps.

(The Gathering is an endless mental subdivision of eggs and bread for the increasing guests, and all in the rain, isn’t it?)

susurration · 13/09/2018 18:35

Yes, that could work I suppose. It just seems they would be creating a whole new place for him in the story. It will be interesting to see.

And yes the gathering is mental arithmetic about breakfast, with lots of damp nappies and sanitary towels and all in the drizzly rain, with lots of long walks around camp. Extremely boring. I skip those chapters.

quirkychick · 14/09/2018 07:20

Another look at the trailer looks as if Roger phones Brianna to tell her about her parents and the fire, rather than keeps it from her. That twist will be interesting to see, but maybe makes more sense than him not telling her...

Florabella · 14/09/2018 16:02

But wasn't their big fight about Roger not telling her about the fire? That's why they weren't together and she met Stephen Bonnet.
