New thread lassies for all things Jamie and Claire (and all things in between).

Only two episodes left! Hope everyone enjoyed episode 11.

I wonder if it was a bit of a foretelling, Claire leaving her 1940s life to have a life with Jamie. But yes, I think things like going through the stones, which are elaborated on later feel like they are added on rather than thought through from the beginning. All the later complicated rules for travelling through the stones etc. not sure they're really necessary.

Making a second batch of your Elderberry and Ginger Syrup, the house smells all spicy.

MoNigheanDonn · 07/01/2018 07:59

So do R & B live between the times? Looking forward to the meet up in S4 hopefully!

That's a big spoiler, a nighean. They go back to the C18th and live there for years, but then their daughter is born with a hole in her heart and they have to go back so she can be saved by modern surgery. Then a whole lot of shenanigans ensue. But no, they don't flit between times.

MoNigheanDonn · 07/01/2018 14:16

Shenanigans - in outlander?! Never Grin thanks less

Planning to read one book per month, so I'll be finished by October hopefully! And they'll count towards my Goodreads challenge and personal challenge to read new books!

Lessstressed I love your explanation of never being able to get out of the Outlander fog once you are in it ! I am totally done for - trying to get myself involved with other books and so forth - very hard! Am just starting DOA I reckon it'll take me a fair while I'm a slow reader ....just can't get enough of it and suffering in the droughtlander!
Really have to get into another series - but there are so many little bits and pieces in the books , so many little things that I are that are intertwined and complex. The thing is when you go back to a book or episode there is always something else you can find and round and round it goes!!

madamefraser · 07/01/2018 21:04

Do we think Catriona Balfe will win a globe tonight ? Hope so !

MoNigheanDonn · 07/01/2018 21:11

I would love her to win, however I think it will go to Elizabeth Moss for playing Offred in Handmaids Tale.

Thought Sam would have been attending too as he was apparently in LA the other day but appears to be back in Scotland judging by his good luck tweet.

Fingers crossed for her! She was nominated before I think too. I think The Crown and the Handmaid's Tale will be very successful though.

I agree DG wrote herself into a bit of a corner with Jamie's ghost. It was Frank who saw him anyway!

crumpet · 08/01/2018 08:12

I had never heard of shipping until I saw the Larry thing here on mn, but have just had a very entertaining wade through Twitter now that Balfe’s engagement has been announced. My word there are a lot of people with not enough to do...

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 08/01/2018 08:52

They are bonkers crumpet. Somehow managed to come across a newly made IG account that's dedicated to proving CB's engagement is a sham and she's really in love with SHConfused (I was looking to see if CB had won the GG). The mind boggles.

These people are truly insane and one of the reasons why I think both lead actors will be looking to leave the show at some point soon.

crumpet · 08/01/2018 09:29

Truly bizarre.

crumpet · 08/01/2018 09:29

Truly bizarre.

MoNigheanDonn · 08/01/2018 09:55

I just came to say it appears that she has gotten engaged. People are crackers!

OP posts:
Lessstressedhemum · 08/01/2018 10:10

There will be many, many heartbroken fans trying to prove that she isn't really engaged. The hardcore worshippers are absolutely mental. You've got to feel sorry for her partner And Sam's. It can't be easy. The mad women need to back off before everyone involved just abandons ship and we don't get any more seasons.

quirkychick · 08/01/2018 21:41

Some people need to learn the difference between fiction and reality Hmm. The reason it looks convincing is because they are good actors in a good production, which is why we watch it.

Congratulations to CB on her engagement. I hope she doesn't get too much hassle from the nutters, I'm glad I'm not on twitter!

Marsali · 08/01/2018 21:49

My word there are a lot of people with not enough to do...

Grin

Tumblr is even worse. Very strange place.

Congratulations to CB! I hope she is very happy.

Lessstressedhemum · 09/01/2018 10:20

I am so glad I don't have any of those things. Facebook is bad enough.

crumpet · 09/01/2018 10:34

Well. I went down quite the rabbit hole yesterday - an astonishing place. Also segued into Mackenzie M’s instagram, and was shocked at what she has to put up with. I don’t think I’d really appreciated what some celebs (probably a lot of celebs) have to bear - it’s just horrible, made even worse that some of the posters/bloggers are utterly outraged and claim to be victimised by the celebs’ choices not to spill every personal detail on demand.

Lessstressedhemum · 09/01/2018 11:38

Because she is Sam's girlfriend? In all honesty, I feel sorry for her, and for all of them. Some people have no boundaries and seem unable to separate fantasy from reality.

Marsali · 09/01/2018 18:13

The 'mega'fans claim that she is being paid to be his girlfriend, either because he's going out with CB or because he's gay.

I read a very scary blog which was throwing such a tantrum that CB didn't get engaged to SH. The author is now completely boycotting anything to do with Outlander and the actors. Really!

CourtneyLoveIsMySpiritAnimal · 09/01/2018 18:20

Who gets this invested in it all though? I confess I've barely thought about Outlander since S3 finished. Watched a few eps from S1, but then real life intervened as it always does. I can't imagine devoting my spare time to writing crap like those blogs.

The only thing it 'proves' is that they're nuts, the lot of them.

boatgirl81 · 10/01/2018 10:09

It is strange how people can get so invested in people they don't really know. It is a beautiful story but a story none the less.

Have caught up now and can't wait for the next season, has the date been announced yet?

Can anyone recommend any shows to fill the void? Have ordered the first book but long wait at the library, the virgins novella is available, is it any good?

Lessstressedhemum · 10/01/2018 11:04

The new series is scheduled for next September. In the meantime, Black Sails is good. I normally like silly programmes like Grimm, Arrow and The Librarians, so I might not be the person to ask. The Last Kingdom was fabulous, though, and Uhtred is very easy on the eye.

Virgins is all right. It's very short and Jamie and Ian are very young. Don't get it on its own, it's not worth the money. Get Seven Stones to Stand or Fall instead. It has a bunch of side stories. The Lord John books are OK as well. They give a lot of background info and character insight. Although, Lord John has never really grabbed me as a character.

As for the "fans", some folk need to get a grip. I saw one of the women call Sam and Caitriona port stars recently, in a very derogatory manner, because of the way the sex scenes are filmed. Seriously, because we all watch Outlander for its historical accuracy and lovely music, said no one ever.

quirkychick · 10/01/2018 16:53

I really liked The Last Kingdom (and Uhtred Grin) the books are good too. In a very similar vein, I've been watching Vikings, also on Prime. Black Sails is good too, lots of machinations and politics and set in the Caribbean in 1700s, so some similarities with S3.

I started rewatching S1 before Christmas, but then Christmas happened, I will get back to it, but in the middle of Vikings S4.

Port stars . I think the whole point in the sex scenes in Outlander are they are very female centric (with J & C), to do with emotional connection and their relationship. Also, it's acting!

quirkychick · 10/01/2018 16:56

Just reread that, a bit clumsy, it should say: the whole point with the sex scenes in Outlander, is that they are very female centric. Dear god, my grammar!!!!
