Well. Now. He's a handsome lad, isn't he?

His eyes aren't the precise shade of green DG spends at least forty pages describing though Xmas Grin

I came here to say something and have promptly forgotten it. Ah well!

Oh I finally finished book 1! It was actually really good once I got into it, I read the last half between yesterday lunch and this morning.

Having given up with the books I got seasons 1-2 on dvd for Christmas GrinGrin

snozzlemaid · 28/12/2017 18:30

I did too penguin.
Even though I can watch it whenever I want on Amazon prime I really wanted to own dvds as well. Dp gave them to me as well as a daily desktop outlander calendar.

LittleDoritt · 28/12/2017 18:39

I did too! I was a bit Hmm because I obviously already have seen them many hundreds of times but then I figured they would be a good back up in case they ever came off Prime (what a terrifying thought).

The library still havent got my copy of Echo in and it has been about two weeks now Angry I'm suffering some serious JAMMF withdrawal symptoms.

LittleDoritt · 28/12/2017 18:40

Oh and HUBBA HUBBA to Roger

mateysmum · 29/12/2017 14:34

I got the DVDs too! Couldn't wait until March for S3 to be available on DVD.

I'm working my way through book 5. They are still making their way to the muster.
The Gathering wasn't as bad as I feared, but yes it could have been edited down by about 50%.
Does the episode with Mr Beardsley have any significance or is it just another bit of gore and Jamie "heroics"? that could have been edited out.
I'm not sharing the love of Roger though. He looks a bit wet to me and in the book I keep wanting to tell him to "man up". But then nobody can rival the divine Jamie.

JAMMFYesPlease · 30/12/2017 00:58

New here but not new to Outlander. Well the show. Im working my way through the books but know most of the big thingsin future books.

Have to say I really enjoyed season 3 as a whole. I actually wanted to see more odntheir time apart, like Claire in med school so looking forward to reading more of that when I get to Voyager.

Farsali are so cute together and that wedding scene was just perfect. Now if only season 4 was on now hahaha!

Lessstressedhemum · 30/12/2017 10:22

The Beardsley episode provides important background for a few story lines, so it is quite significant. It also allows for a bit of emotional growth for the characters involved.

I am reading Snow and Ashes again just now, but I feel the need to rewatching as I am having withdrawal symptoms from lack of gorgeous bog gingers.

mateysmum · 30/12/2017 14:36

Thanks Lessstressed

Me too. Happy New Year, everyone.

Lessstressedhemum · 04/01/2018 10:25

I am going to start a rewatch this week. I am suffering from lack of Jamie.

As an aside, DS3 took me to see the Red Hot Chilli Pipers last week. They were awesome, and very fetching in their kilts!

quirkychick · 04/01/2018 12:50

Oh, Less very jealous!

LittleDoritt · 04/01/2018 19:47

Happy New Year lassies!
My library copy of Echo is in and I can get it in the morning. Can't wait!

boatgirl81 · 05/01/2018 09:28

Hi Lassies,

Am very new to Outlander but am loving it. Got prime just before Christmas for my last minute bits, found Outlander and am almost half way through season 3, have ordered the first book from the library so hopefully that will keep me going.
This has possibly already been mentioned but has been bugging me, right back in the first series maybe second episode Frank saw a sort of shadow/person in the town at night. Does that have any significance?

Lessstressedhemum · 05/01/2018 09:55

No one knows, really. Jamie's ghost was something DG put into the book to give it a "spooky" element. She has said that the issue will be resolved by the end of the series, but who knows how? There are theories galore floating around, though.

Welcome to the twilight zone, boatgirl, there is no escape now. Outlander is like one of those creepy villages in old films that are surrounded by fog, where, when you try to leave, you end up back where you started. Once you've met Jamie, no one else measures up.

boatgirl81 · 05/01/2018 10:15

Thank you for the welcome and I agree, I am obsessed already, and so tired where I keep trying to squeeze one more episode in! Have got to their reunion and Claire currently has a man in her room at the brothel who was ransacking the place.

I wondered if the ghost/shadow was something explained the books and they had just dropped it for the tv series. I wonder if it will be Jamie keeping an eye on Claire after his death?

ToniMumsnet · 06/01/2018 09:33

I have wondered about the strange ghost figure of Jamie too.

I have wondered if it's related to the fact that in the later books Jamie seems to be able to see his family in the future. He has in his dreams visited Brianna and her children in Lallybrock and when they arrived in Inverness.

Is it his dream self Visiting her. I may be remembering it wrong, but I'm sure in one book he mentions seeing her brushing her hair in a dream.
But after reading 7 books it can all get a wee bit hazy.

Lessstressedhemum · 06/01/2018 10:26

I think he sees her writing at a desk in his dream. He is talking to her about electric light. He does seem to have a bit of the sight where his family is concerned.

I don't know, my personal feeling is the DG doesn't know what to do about it. It was a throw away spooky moment in the first book, which was meant to be a stand-alone. Fans have attached a huge significance to it, though, and now she has to follow through.

ToniMumsnet · 06/01/2018 10:43

I know what you mean Less. All of this second sight stuff does feel like an afterthought.
