Anyone else excited by the start of the new 2017 series? I am! It's the law in our house to watch all these Christmas programmes - SCD, X Factor and Celeb.

I think the constant banging on about Denis Wise's height is appalling. Imagine if this was done about an person who was overweight, underweight ("He's a really THIN man"; "He's a really FAT man") or with a disability.

I can't understand how the director/producers thought this was acceptable in the first place let it alone run for so long. It's not funny at all.

The small man thing is done as a joke because Dec is the same size as him. It's not as if it's a bog bloke calling Dennis a small man, part of the joke is Dec being small himself.

That is how I took it. It is not to take the mick out of Dennis but to present Dec as if he has a complex about his own believed short height. So we are meant to be laughing at Dec for his complex and his self-unawareness that he is the same height himself.

I said upthread that I felt it was tantamount to bullying. It wasn’t until,someone explained on here that I realised the joke was actually Dec making fun of himself. However, despite knowing this, I still find the jokes unfunny and bullying, and agree, that people would soon complain if the jokes referred to people being fat, ginger, wearing glasses etc.

I disagree. If Dec famously wore glasses and stood wearing his glasses repeatedly calling a contestant who also wears glasses 'speccy four eyes' I think people would laugh in exactly the same way.

The joke isn't about height/glasses/hair colour it is about Dec being up self aware.
