Haha yes. The tapes were mentioned by one of the Barlows a couple of years ago I think - something to do with a mix tape. The writers must have been reading the IMDb message board, where people used to mention the tapes all the time.

Just viewed the birth of Sarah Louise and I thought I had spotted how they ascertained that SL was Brian's after all. She was not 5 weeks early but had her dates wrong and SL could not be Ian's.
Was thinking my memory was playing tricks (I remember the 80s first time round) Confused I had a 36 weeker in the early 70s and he was < 5 lbs so I must be wrong. No DNA testing then!

Mrscaindingle · 15/12/2017 23:13

Just watched Sarah Lou's birth as well, how things have changed in 30 years, where were the midwives? The ambulance staffs uniform and the nurses hats, no birthing partner for Gail who looked more like she had trapped wind than giving birth.

CoolCarrie · 16/12/2017 00:04

I remember when Tracey was born and Oscar winner Brenda Fricker was the nurse in charge.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 17/12/2017 20:09

Ian just doesn't realise what a lucky escape he has had by Gail turning him down. I'm not sure how Martin managed to survive being married to her, she's the black widow

olliegarchy99 · 18/12/2017 15:56

Of course - the blood test would prove if Ian was NOT the father|!
loved Sally's yellow ensemble - I had forgotten the 80s penchant for big jumpers, bright colours and wide shoulders.Xmas Smile
What I find striking in classic corrie is how good the scripts are and how well they are delivered. It is not stilted or one-sided as it is now.

keepondreaming · 18/12/2017 17:34

Catching up with it now as I do the ironing, got it on series link!!
What's striking for me, is that they're not afraid of silence. There are pauses in the conversations, people think of what they're going to say, no rushing into an explosive reply. So much more natural.
Delivery room was a bit stark!

scrabbler3 · 18/12/2017 17:36

I love Sally's outfits. Sally Dynevor could carry off anything though.

Today, a character was watching snooker for the second time in a few weeks (Bet was watching it when Alec visited). That was soooo 1980s! I remember snooker being huge.

Hilda will be leaving soon. Sad. Christmas 1987 was her last ep, and I think we're in Feb 1987. Each week now covers five weeks of Classic I think. She, Bet and Percy are my faves....

Akire · 18/12/2017 17:42

Saw today’s too- Gail looked quite old then already! No one was in baby care unit- just walk in. Can’t think of anything worse to wear after delivery than full neck to floor white nightie.

What other child are they referring too? There seemed to be lots more older characters I know we have three at moment but not many. Love the social history side of it. Way playpen in hospital waiting room , and babies would just been left there.

scrabbler3 · 18/12/2017 17:47

In think that there was an incident in a maternity ward in the late 1980s that led to tightened security in all hospitals, but i can't recall the details! I remember it being on the news.

MrsSteveMcDonald · 18/12/2017 17:54

Some of us still watch snooker :)

ChevalierTialys · 19/12/2017 13:06

Do Audrey and Alf live on the street? Because their house seems huge compared to hildas and the Duckworths

SexualTyrannosaurus · 19/12/2017 17:48

Yes, they seem larger, I keep trying to work out who lives in the houses now, i may be wrong but I think:

Alf and Audrey - Eileen
Rita - Dev
Barlows - Same
Ivy - Chesney
Emily - Norris
Jack and Vera - Tyrone and Fizz
Hilda - Kevin

cloudyweewee · 19/12/2017 19:54

There were some seriously crap actors back in the day. Susan Baldwin is shocking. I love Alf's white overall. Very Open All Hours.

scrabbler3 · 19/12/2017 20:24

Yes, I was thinking that the Susan actress was weak during the dinner party scenes recently.

I'm enjoying the scandalised reactions to cohabitation. Mavis 😂

southeastdweller · 19/12/2017 20:27

She's awful. Johnny Briggs (Mike) thought she was a diva on set and used to eat garlic before their kissing scenes. The boss at the time, Bill Podmore, said in his book he regretted bringing her back to Corrie and got rid of her in late '87.

cloudyweewee · 19/12/2017 20:42

Ooh Mike Baldwin. He really knew how to wear a leather bomber jacket!

thenightsky · 19/12/2017 23:29

Alf Roberts has a look of Peter Kay about him. Are they related?

SexualTyrannosaurus · 20/12/2017 15:00

oh dear, that older woman who Terry is sleeping with on his selling round reminds me so much of Stella from League of Gentleman! Grin

Classic Corrie
southeastdweller · 20/12/2017 15:51

Terry is HOT!

Iwantacampervan · 20/12/2017 17:00

Terry is HOT!
Even in that jacket he was wearing towards the end today - when heading into Town?

cloudyweewee · 21/12/2017 06:37

Watching this morning and ivy, Shirley and Vera and they're having lunch at Ivy's in their break instead of going to the pub or cafe. Far more realistic.

SexualTyrannosaurus · 21/12/2017 10:32

Jack and Vera were so funny yesterday, especially when they were making up at Ivys! Grin

Iwantacampervan · 21/12/2017 15:26

Just heard Blackpool mentioned - watch out for the tram!

SexualTyrannosaurus · 21/12/2017 15:31

Mavis is so highly strung, wish she would calm down before she has a heart attack! Hmm
