Jenny talking to Alan about wanting to be "dominated by a sexy strong male animal" - Cringe!

Carol1 · 30/01/2018 21:00

Lol and look what she ended up with

ThunderboltsLightning · 30/01/2018 22:06

We are definitely the worse off for the demise of the pinny! Or do we just substitute that for leggings and an old t shirt for schlepping round the house now?

notaladyinred · 30/01/2018 22:55

Julie Goodyear was given time off at short notice because her mum was terminally ill, and in the last few weeks of her life.

Jack Duckworth has just reappeared after a few months off screen because Bill Tarmey had a heart operation.

Housewife2010 · 31/01/2018 13:02

There is such an enormous amount of huge fluffy blonde hair. I'd missed a few episodes and now Ivy's has jumped on board.

Kikashi · 31/01/2018 17:39

Yeah - big hair!

I loved the episodes today - fantastic. Rita's non wedding, Alf and the chair, Mike (and ken's) attitudes - it doesn't take much to make fantastic drama all lightened up by Percy reporting that droopy drawers (Mavis) had gossiped that Alf was drunk, Was feeling very ill today - it cheered me up no end unlike the present misery fest.

If Mike was so set on having children straight away then he should have made that clear before the wedding. I felt really sorry for Susan. she's only a couple of years older than Sally. Ken wasn't much of dad to her growing up - how dare he say she can't "come home". Even though like Mike's flat, Ken's house was never really her home.

ChevalierTialys · 31/01/2018 19:44

I feel quite sorry for Susan. She didn't even know Mike wanted kids until she came across Mark at random. She must have felt so deceived and trapped.

cloudyweewee · 31/01/2018 20:17

Not surprised that Mike wasn't getting his conjugal rights.

ChevalierTialys · 31/01/2018 20:38

Hilda telling Sally to invite Alf to her house warming for the potential gift Grin I know I've said it before but I really do absolutely love Hilda!

Susan should be leaving Mike after sacking her in front of everyone. I mean, refusing to send the order without discussing it with Mike was a bit stupid but she didn't deserve to be humiliated like that. What a twat!

CoolCarrie · 31/01/2018 22:27

Mike has always been a twat, the only time he was decent was when Ernie Bishop was killed.

PrizePig · 01/02/2018 15:41

Bet and Hilda ROCK Grin

ThunderboltsLightning · 01/02/2018 19:47

I may be a lone voice (and I am a few episodes behind) but I have been irritated by Susan swanning around Mike's business that he built from nothing. When they got married, she worked with Ken and didn't like it. So then she forced her way into the factory, got him to spend money on the children's clothes venture and shop, then started pinching his staff because running her shop was beneath her (try telling that to Alf Roberts). I think he was right to tell her that she needed to start putting in the hard work and making some profit if she wanted to hire someone to staff the shop.

Theyre an ill suited couple all round really. Totally different outlooks on life.

Kikashi · 01/02/2018 20:21

I agree they are totally ill suited. Susan was attracted to Mike because he was a successful business man. Don't think he would have had a look in if he worked in packing. However, I do think he is being ridiculous about the children now issue

Housewife2010 · 02/02/2018 14:04

Susan is such a dull character. A livelier, better actress could have made her more sympathetic and made viewers care about her ambition. Her sarcasm to Mike is so cringey.

BluthsFrozenBananas · 02/02/2018 14:47

I really enjoyed the scenes in Spain with Alec and Bet, the acting and writing was superb. Both actors can convey so much with just a glance, the producers should have had them giving masterclasses to some of the other cast members.

On a completely different note I had that yellow and black shirt Sally's been wearing recently, I also had her short hair cut. Unfortunately I didn't carry it off as well as her, at least partly down to mine being a very strange shade to orange due to the (over) use of sun-in. Grin

Kikashi · 02/02/2018 18:08

I too thought the Torremolinos scenes were fantastic. Bet looked great with her tan and white dress.

scrabbler3 · 02/02/2018 19:33

I thought that Bet really suited white. And I love everything that Sal wears.

I had Shirley's strapless dress with the flowers on it. I think it came from Dorothy Perkins.

I was reading that Roy Bbarraclough didn't want to become a regular character despite getting on well with everyone, because his comedy career was successful and he didn't wish to be typecast by a soap. They had to work hard to persuade him.

I don't remember Margot at all.

Tony Warren wrote in his memoirs that Wendy Jane Walker struggled with the job, and he regretted putting her in that position. I think she's quite weak, but she'd be ok in today's cast.

southeastdweller · 02/02/2018 23:31

Just pointing out that the episode on today is on Youtube for those who can’t watch on itv3. Just search ‘12th August 1987’ (can’t link on my phone).

EdithWeston · 03/02/2018 07:31

I've been noticing Shirley's clothes. I had quite a few similar things (she was in a skirt with a yolk the other day)

And I thought Gloria's green with black spots blouse was amazing

scrabbler3 · 03/02/2018 11:37

I liked that green one too! Gloria always looks lovely.

Jenny's button earrings and matching beads - I had a few sets like that. I also had a similar hairdo, just a less pretty colour! I must say I prefer Jenny's hairstyle now. She's one of those women who looks better with age.

ChevalierTialys · 05/02/2018 16:08

"What sort of accident? Oh you mean he's broken his elbow turning over in bed to turn off the alarm?"

  • Gail about Martin being late GrinGrinGrin why don't they write lines like this these days? I feel like I've missed all the best stuff by being born too late Grin
cloudyweewee · 05/02/2018 17:40

One of my favourite Corrie lines was spoken by Rita to Mavis:

"You're making a mountain out of a molehill and mincemeat out of the mole!" Grin

Kannet · 06/02/2018 15:57

Well I can't watch for the next few weeks as Stuck in hospital. Would love it if you could all keep me up to date

Bet was staying at Gloria’s and brooding about getting married, she was going to her bed, when Betty, Rita & Susan turned up so they had a wee hen night. Alec had some guys around in the pub, to have a bit of a stag do. Tony Booth, ( who was married to Elsie Tanner in real life & was Cherie Booth’s father) he is due to be Alec’s best man. Alec is terrified of marrying Bet.
Ivy and Vera went out to the Pink Flamingo as it was Rita’s birthday and Jack forgot. The cab driver who picked them up was Bert, who turns up later on to take Ivy home as she has had enough, and she leaves Vera who is being chatted up by the batman.
The wedding is tomorrow!

Ladytron11 · 06/02/2018 17:49

Kannet, don't worry you can rely on us

Today's were good. It was the day before Bet & Alec's wedding, Emily had to add to the street fair's takings to make the donation up to £500 (Percy had done his sums wrong which was pointed out by Tracy much to his annoyance), Vera & Ivy had night out at The Pink Flamingo Club and we were introduced to Don Brennan as Ivy's taxi driver....

Does anyone else think young Tracy-luv bears an uncanny resemblance to Amy nowadays?
