Haha linda's hair, i used to have mine just like thatGrin

Kikashi · 17/01/2018 21:15

Just caught up with some episodes. Housewife I agree about Alf - his face and mannerisms were priceless when Audrey asked about resuming marital relations! Gave me a laugh.

cloudyweewee · 17/01/2018 21:34

I can't believe I used to be besotted with Terry Duckworth.

Housewife2010 · 17/01/2018 22:33

Me too. I used to think he was so fit! He was stalkerish with Linda this morning. Did you notice his low sexy voice he put on for her?

cloudyweewee · 18/01/2018 06:23

I also hate the way he keeps putting his hands on her neck and stroking her hair. Plus I want to give her eyebrows a good pluck! She looked much younger in Brookside.

EdithWeston · 18/01/2018 06:28

She always seems to be asking/begging men to do something (usually to leave her alone) and she's totally ignored, and they carry on anyhow. Her husband did that to some extent, but Terry did so to a positively creepy extent.

scrabbler3 · 20/01/2018 21:54

Just saw that young Hugh at the brewery was also Molsley in Downton Abbey. I thought he seemed familiar.

Ladytron11 · 21/01/2018 19:43

Molesley! Of course! I knew I knew him.
Been loving the Terry love triangle but can't remember how long he's away for! Not long, probably.
Gail's new love interest has been lined up.
It's so good.

CoolCarrie · 22/01/2018 06:02

Thank you scrabbler3! I knew his face, but couldn’t place him and forgot to look at his name in the credits.

ChevalierTialys · 22/01/2018 08:00

Is there somewhere where you watch the full episodes from the very first one?

scrabbler3 · 22/01/2018 10:01

I don't think so -you'd need to buy the DVDs, which are available on Amazon.

They should bring back "Molesley" as the father of the guy who's currently playing Gemma's boyfriend - he's the right age to have had a baby in around 1990. Or is that a different family? Newton or Ridley?

I remember reading somewhere that Nigel Pivaro did a fair bit of theatre, which would explain why Our Turreh made frequent disappearances I guess.

TheFirstMrsDV · 22/01/2018 10:03

I am loving Classic Corrie.
The writing is so much better.
Sally is hilarious. Sparky, pert northern lass Grin

They seemed to rely much more on characters than big dramatic storylines.

ThunderboltsLightning · 22/01/2018 10:24

Just catching up with the last few- the dramatic music for Alf's heart attack. Brilliant Grin

There are some old ones available on youtube but certainly not the full back catalogue

ChevalierTialys · 22/01/2018 10:28

I love 1987 Sally, she was so upbeat and happy! Looking forward to life!

I vaguely remember her having rows with the woman Kev was seeing when they split up in the 90's. I think it was anyway, I remember the girls being little. Can't remember her name though. And it seemed tp me that Karen (married to Steve for a bit?) used to have slanging matches in the Rovers with whoever showed up on any given day.

From what I've seen lately, I do think the rows did used to be more in keeping with characters and storyline rather than people uncharacteristically shouting at each other over every little thing.

Gail has made the odd comment about Ivy over the years but you know, she seems like a lovely caring sweet woman. Ok so a bit judgeypants about the divorce but only because she loves them all so much. She seems to have had a really raw deal to me. There might be more in the history (pre-1986) that I don't know about but I think Gail and Audrey were absolutely awful to her.

ChevalierTialys · 22/01/2018 10:29

I did put paragraphs in that post Hmm

scrabbler3 · 22/01/2018 10:44

I've been confused by Ivy too. I remember her nickname being Poison Ivy and I recall disliking her, but she seems very kind and a bit vulnerable in these eps, if a little didactic. Perhaps her character changed when Gail married Martin and that's how I remember her.

Fab actress.

Kannet · 22/01/2018 13:37

Ivy changed a lot after Brian's death if I remember correctly. She also caused problems with her will

OP posts:
TheFirstMrsDV · 22/01/2018 15:18

She went a bit funny.
Didn't she get involved with a bloke who became obsessed with someone else?
The actress who played her was quite troubled.

ThunderboltsLightning · 22/01/2018 15:24

Yes, Ivy goes from a married woman with a son, daughter in law and grandchildren to the total opposite. You can understand how hard it must have been to see Martin, barely more than a teenage step into her Brian's shoes

numbereightyone · 22/01/2018 15:31

It is just brilliant. Shows what can be achieved with brilliant writing.

EdithWeston · 22/01/2018 18:05

Ivy became a bit more poisonous as time went on IIRC.

And yes, agree that the slanging matches (and even fisticuffs) were rooted in the plot (and actual fights/slaps rare and even shocking). Whereas now it seem to happen with very little pretext. It's become parody, no longer showing the full range of interaction but leaping instead to what used to be the culmination of a situation. It's feels like it's shortcutting the context. Especially as characters no longer chew over events together, providing the chorus to illuminate the stories.

Iwantacampervan · 22/01/2018 18:23

I chuckled at Kevin (well Sally really) moaning about Brian going off and leaving him alone in the garage - fast forward 30 years and he's doing the same thing! It's interesting watching it knowing what will happen to the characters - you want to warn anyone who gets involved with Gail that it will end badly!

EdithWeston · 22/01/2018 19:48

I don't remember Geoff at all (wasn't watching regularly in the 80s)

He seems to have been introduced to Nicky awfully soon.

cloudyweewee · 22/01/2018 19:58

Liam has had numerous daddies and he's come out of it alright!!

GlacindaTheTroll · 23/01/2018 12:28

They're up to mid-1987, and I don't think there have been any Liams in it yet, nor any imminent. Or have I forgotten someone of that era??
