As you were ladies...

OP posts:
ladybird69 · 08/10/2017 02:08

Did anyone else here hear Darcey say something like "my judges here" as if she was top judge.

Petalflowers · 08/10/2017 02:22

Voted for Brian, Ruth and Susan. None of them had the best dances, but they all showed improvements from the first week, and did good performances, if not actual dance steps. Out of the weaker dances, they were the ones I preferred.

Petalflowers · 08/10/2017 02:24

Saw Ian Waite and Camilla recently. They were brill, entertaining and funny. Ian is dancing with a Oti next year. May have to go again.

Inkanta · 08/10/2017 08:06

I liked Brendan standing up for Charlotte particularly as she had improved and was very nervous. I am not warming to Shirley. Craig had to play good cop!

KittyVonCatsington · 08/10/2017 08:10

Shirley definitely saves her smiley critiques for the celebs/pros that she likes and very visibly changes on the ones she doesn't like!

Theromanempire · 08/10/2017 08:26

Has anyone worked out the significance of Shirley's glasses? I can't work out why she sometimes has them on and sometimes doesn't Confused

ImListening · 08/10/2017 08:28

I’m not warming to Shirley - she’s too obviously biased for me. As head judge she should be neutral & she isn’t. Not keen.

Inkanta · 08/10/2017 08:41

'Shirley definitely saves her smiley critiques for the celebs/pros that she likes and very visibly changes on the ones she doesn't like!'

Yes I thought that. Are the red glasses to give an air of school teacher authority.

BoreOfWhabylon · 08/10/2017 08:44

I think appointing Shirley as HJ was a big mistake. She is clearly biased and does not have the likeability factor. The saccharine mask is slippng already.

ElspethFlashman · 08/10/2017 08:47

Brendan is a twat and Charlotte seems to hate dancing

Yup. Hope the public runs out of patience with them. They won't be saved by the judges after that, that's for sure.

Also, Brendan isn't a great dancer anymore. He's stompy and leaden.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 08/10/2017 09:14

Just read Monkseal's column, and one of the comments at the end says that "Ruth should be out because I am sick of the sight of Eamonn Holmes". I think we could all say "Amen" to that!

I like Shirley, except I can't understand why she repeatedly gives Simon, who is a singing dancer, and easy timed high marks.

I feel sorry for Charlotte, because as long as she is with Brenda she doesn't stand a chance.

2014newme · 08/10/2017 09:15

Charlotte needs to get some personality into her dance she needs an acting coach or something. Ditto ruth. She'll end up going before the poorer dances who do bring personality, susan, Brian's and rev.

The80sweregreat · 08/10/2017 09:44

Brendon always makes his partners nervous.
There is always trouble

The rev makes me laugh. Susan is also entertaining.

ManicUnicorn · 08/10/2017 09:48

Remember last year when Brendon couldn't dance one week and Anastasia danced with Gorka instead? She was like a completley different person with him, much more relaxed. I can't help but think Brendon is the problem here, not the judges or his partners. The only person he's got anywhere with in years was Sophie EB and that's because she was obviously a natural dancer. I don't think he can be arses with the people who need a little bit more work/confidence building.

2014newme · 08/10/2017 09:52

Why do they never give neil a celebrity?

KittyVonCatsington · 08/10/2017 09:55

Brendon was great with Sophie Ellis Bextor. Her cool 'don't give a shit' attitude, suited Brendon well, I thought!

ManicUnicorn · 08/10/2017 09:56

I'd like to see Brendon sit out and Neil have a go next year.

KittyVonCatsington · 08/10/2017 09:59

I think both Neil and Chloe should have partners. Maybe they might get lucky with the Christmas special?

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 08/10/2017 10:13

Sophie took no shit from Brendan. Only she would have responded to being called “this girl” with the immortal “I’m 34 Brendan!”

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 08/10/2017 10:20

On the 10 second rule, it is in theory a rule that even if you faff around at the beginning and end, once you’ve got in hold you have to stay in hold. That’s what’s meant to distinguish the AS from the other ballroom dances - that they can break hold. However it’s erratically enforced and deciding to make it a thing for the only movie week dance that’s actually based on a movie dance sequence, when the original had a socking great tap break in the middle, makes it look like a tactical attempt to peg Debbie back (not that she needs handicapping against Aston and Alex).

Here is the original. Long singing sequence at the start. I adore Ginger’s acting but she really wasn’t a great singer.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 08/10/2017 10:21

And here’s Debbie and Giovanni. Not a particularly close rendition but then since most of the point of the original was the roller skate gimmick it was always going to need hacking about.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 08/10/2017 10:26

Also of course the costuming was off. Partly because they had gone knee length day wear for Debbie last week and wanted to ring the changes (which is silly, they could easily have put her in traditional ball gown for last week’s waltz) and partly because whenever the wardrobe department hear FredandGiiinge they dig out their Big Book Of Art Deco Ballgowns despite the fact that some of her most iconic dances were done in tweed jackets, daytime frocks or jodhpurs.

The80sweregreat · 08/10/2017 10:33

I agree that it is Brendon that seems to be the problem - he comes across as arrogant and although he may have thought he was going to be ok with Charlotte , who is tall and slim and beautiful, the reality is a bit different. Not everyone can dance - i doubt she will improve much and looked close to tears last night - i thought she might even have walked off, but she is too media savvy to do this of course.
I have watched enough partners of Brendon's over the years - if i were on this show i would not want him to teach me to dance!

herecomesthsun · 08/10/2017 10:42

I had a few questions.

Why was Giovanni dressed as a spiv?

Why was Maria/ Mollie dancing with Rolf the young Nazi?

What was Richard supposed to be? Flash? Ming the Merciless? Boris Johnson/ Prue Leith/ Sandi Toksvig/ Donald Trump?

The80sweregreat · 08/10/2017 10:46

Rev as Boris - the hair was similar!
i have a feeling that they meant AJ to be the captain Von trapp.
I loved Alexandra, she is a joy to watch.
