As you were ladies...

OP posts:
MrsJamin · 07/10/2017 21:00

Voted for Joe, Gemma and Mollie. Weird show. Lots of mediocre dances. Ruth and Simon were awful, Richard's was hysterical. Brian was actually much better, really well timed.

fridayfreddo · 07/10/2017 21:04

Hmm. A lacklustre night tonight. Disappointing after last week. Liked Aljaz, Debbie and Joe, but the rest? Meh. And poor Rev Richard - who could look sexy and commanding in that get-up? Poor bloke.

ManicUnicorn · 07/10/2017 21:06

Movie night is always a bit shit IMO.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 07/10/2017 21:09

so where's my lovely experts on here? Rise and fall, yes or no?
even if there wasn't strictly rise and fall, it wasn't head snappy staccato Sad

fridayfreddo · 07/10/2017 21:11

Yes, there was rise and fall! We re-watched it too. Brendan was so rude! I had no idea he and Shirley had history...

Way to make sure he won't return next season!!

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 07/10/2017 21:12

Rev just stomped it though. he might have got away with the theming with decent caping but the one attempt at it was as cringeworthy as the rest of the routine. I watched it through my fingers and squeaked please stop at one point.

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 07/10/2017 21:13

thanks freddo Flowers

cowgirlsareforever · 07/10/2017 21:19

I've just remembered that apparently Brendan had a big falling out with Aliona. It was something to do with Brendan using her image to promote his tour. I read that they barely spoke. He also didn't speak to Camilla after they broke off their engagement. Backstage tensions are nothing new to Brendan!

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 07/10/2017 21:25

Have just watched Susan's again, it must make such a difference to have someone throwing themselves into it like that (compared with Naga and Charlotte who both look(ed) unbearably self-conscious.

I also think Janette nailed her routine (have been subjected to the film more times than I care to mention) and it's just like it.

but Joe... Glitterball 9 bloody loved him (well aware I am overmarking for the music but if head judge can then...Wink )

GorgeousLadyOfWrangling · 07/10/2017 21:29

And I still can't get over a sexy Sound of Music Maria. Just wrong.

CaveMum · 07/10/2017 21:31

Just finished watching! Thoughts:

Simon - Flat footed and gappy, no swing or sway at all. The faff at the end was obvious time-wasting.
Ruth - Lots of basic steps and actual dancing as opposed to posing. However, legs not straight enough and lacked foot pressure, plus hips very wooden. Needs to finish her lines properly.
Mollie - Left me a bit cold to be honest. Technically speaking it was pretty good, but I just felt a bit "meh" about it!
Rev Richard - eek, echoes of Jon Sargent! He needs to drop his shoulders and raise his eye line to improve his posture. Very stompy and just, not very good. Oh and that sound is Freddie Mercury spinning in his grave as his song is butchered.
Debbie - I can't deny that she's good. The camera-work meant I couldn't see if she was closing her feet properly, but her ballet feet are going to hamper that.
Brian - Not a bad effort actually, though the comedy stuff annoyed me a bit. He was quite flat-footed as there was little use of the ankles and as a result lacked drive.
Gemma - Quite fun, though probably not a traditional Charleston. Couldn't see a lot of swivel in her feet.
Charlotte - a lot of time-wasting I think. It started quite promisingly but I do think she looked like she was being hauled around the floor at times. You could tell from Brendan's hand position that he was doing a lot of work.
Jonnie - Posture not great but good timing. He attacked it well and despite a few footwork issues (excusable in the circumstance) pretty good.
Susan - Not a lot of bounce action - couldn't see her using her ankles at all - and very lacking in hip action, but she gave it some welly and it was quite enjoyable.
Joe - bit skippy at times and looked to be over-striding a tad. Did see a bit of sway at times which was nice. Good effort.
Aston - a good routine and I do love that song. If I'm being picky he didn't straighten his legs fully all the time and the hip action could have been a bit more rotational.
Alexandra - lovely routine. Couldn't see much wrong with it other than she tends to bring her shoulders up at times and it spoils the neckline.
Davood - didn't think it was as good as the audience did! It lacked bounce and whilst he can gyrate his hips I couldn't see a lot of correct Samba hip action. His free hand was very splayed at times.

digerd · 07/10/2017 21:34

I found Craig insulting to Shirley by contradicting her on her comments. Was so shocked I forgot who it was and what she actually said.
At least he didn't interrupt her, but waited until she had finished.
If it was about technique, Shirley has more knowledge than Craig has and he was out of order.

IhaveChillyToes · 07/10/2017 21:38

I wonder if Shirley will still be there next year?

Does anyone know if contract was more than 1 year?

SchadenfreudePersonified · 07/10/2017 22:03

I hope she is there next year Toes - I really like her and fins her comments excellent (though I can't understand her fondness for Simon).

Plus, anyone who loathes Brendan as much as she does can't be all bad . . .

Theromanempire · 07/10/2017 22:14

Just finished watching.

I like Shirley's technical knowledge but her obvious bias towards Simon presumably because he is a scouser Hmm is so blatant and seriously damaging her credibility.

Mollie - hardly any dancing involved so surprised at the judges comments and scores.

Final thought...Gorka's arse - just wow!

Figgygal · 07/10/2017 22:37

I've Been rewatching jay and aliona dances on YouTube tonight they were definitely my favourite couple ever

yesbutnobut · 07/10/2017 22:39

Such a shame Karen Hardy isn’t doing Choreography Corner any more - she’d have come on and said definitively who was right, Craig or Shirley. Let’s hope it’s someone good this week.

ChoccyJules · 07/10/2017 22:39

Voted for Joe, Aston and Gemma. Thought Brian upped his game, although I agree it was clever dance-wise to cast him as the scarecrow.

CalmanOnSpeeddial · 07/10/2017 22:41

Yes I’m hoping for someone punchy in Choreography Corner who’ll weigh in happily on the subject of the rise and fall or lack thereof in Charlotte’s tango. Camilla would be an ideal impartial candidate Grin.

bonfireheart · 07/10/2017 22:46

Apparently Gorka & Gemma are seeing each other. If it's true they're a lovely couple. First SCD relationship that's not the celeb and their dance partner.

CeeBeeBee · 07/10/2017 23:07

Both Gemma and Gorka have denied it and have said they're just friends.

Charlotte reminds me of Victoria Pendleton, who was also partnered with Brendan.
She looks the part and looks as if she should be good, but just isn't.

I like Brendan and went to watch his show a couple of years ago, which was superb, unlike Vincent and Flavia's (who I loved on Strictly) last year. Theirs was just dull, dull, dull.
