Welcome back all.

Was there ever a reveal that James spies on Gemma for Simon, or is that just in my mind?

washingmachinefastwash · 30/09/2017 08:43

That’s what I thinks happening with James

Dowser · 30/09/2017 09:10

Oooh, that's nasty...

I'm out of the country for the last episode.
I shall be tuning in here.
I don't mind spoilers 😀

@dowser just watch it on bbc iplayer after the episode airs

TinselTwins · 30/09/2017 15:47

I think the "reveal" about what Simon told Tom is that he didn't! He didn't tell him anything bad, and all this time Webber Gamma was pushing him to tell her how his dad "turned" him against her was just sticking the knife in because it showed how she had NO insight into what a suit mother she was being all the way through.

Polkadot1974 · 30/09/2017 16:32

She is indeed a woman scorned but I hate seeing her abandon Tom and not just fling her arms around him and say she's there for him. And those shoes but hoping they've done their time. I could do with a huge glass of white wine though.

RyanStartedTheFire · 30/09/2017 16:43

No Tom has himself said “you told me about Mum..” so there is something.

colonelgoldfish · 30/09/2017 16:43

After the first episode I really thought Gemma would have some spectacular revenge plan that would be a huge and clever twist. But the more I watch it her and Simon are both just clutching at straws to find ways to get to each other. I'm wondering if that's the writers intentions? To show them as both completely obsessed with each other that rather than moving on or being civil, they're using any little thing to get to each other whilst their son slowly descends into despair and depression.

I think the series will end with either someone dying (most likely Simon or Tom) or them getting back together and continuing as they were before any of it happening. I don't think there will be a satisfying ending to all of this.

woodhill · 30/09/2017 19:01

Don't like Kate's dad either.

Who took Simon's car.

Wouldn't Simon have had the sense to stash some cash away from Kate's family

TinselTwins · 30/09/2017 19:10

Yes agree that a man like Simon would have been siphoning money out of the joint account into secret accounts of his own.

Nope, what Simon told Tom was not really bad or the reason why he moved out, she's obsessed with it but it'll be nothing. He left because she's a shit mother. She doesnt wanna take any responsibility for her relationship with Tom

I think Tom is suicidal :-(

RyanStartedTheFire · 30/09/2017 20:49

Tom said “you told me about Mum but you said I could live with you so it would be okay.”

Is Simon a shit father too?

SpanishFly · 30/09/2017 21:10

Yes. He closed the door in Tom's face when he needed his father most in his life. He chose his new wife and daughter over him.

TinselTwins · 30/09/2017 21:32

I think Simon is a shit adult/partner but an okay dad. He does actually connect with Tom & listens to him.

Whatever he told him is not the root of Toms issues with Gemma, She barely notices him unless she thinks Simon might "win" him

TinselTwins · 30/09/2017 21:34

It was handled badly but I bet if a step mother came on here and said "DAD has assaulted a girl from school and I don't want him in the house with DD" there would be a good few YANBUs

SpanishFly · 30/09/2017 22:03

When gemma sent Simon the photo and said "you win", he just put the phone back on the table with no emotion.

I know what you're saying re Tom but he did everything he could to win him Gemma but the first issue that comes up he shuts the door in his face. No wonder the kid is screwed up

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 30/09/2017 22:45

Am very sleep-deprived, so can't remember if we've already come to any firm conclusions over relevance that Gemma mentioned Simon's (lack of? poor?) swimming ability? What with that handily awaiting pool in an empty house, surely it's got to feature as scene of Something Terrible.

Lack of keys would be irrelevant for somebody desperate, with easy enough access via so much smashable glass.

Though probably safe to assume Kate/ her parents had pre-empted such, and hurriedly upgraded the security system to rival Fort Knox.

Police response intruder alarm, possibly?
Thus help might arrive at critical moment?

Or Simon loses it completely: hostage situation turn of events?

Gruesome thought:
I'm sure an indoor sauna was spoken about. Might Simon or Gemma (please not Tom Sad ) end up fatally steamed?

CakeNinja · 30/09/2017 23:14

I have an awful feeling that it will all end with simon moving back in with gemma. Just like at the end of Gone Girl. Two intenesely, mistrustful and mistrusting characters, manipulative and twisted.
Although would like there to be something more dramatic. Not for Toms sake though, just for interesting tv!

EnidButton · 01/10/2017 00:03

I thought that's where it was heading Cake When she went back to him on the drive, after feeling guilty speaking to her son. Then she just offered to put him up in a hotel which seemed more reasonable, but now you've said it...

So it's either going to be something as irratating and unbelievable as him moving back in or it's going to be ott drama and she drowns him in the pool or something. I'm hoping for ott drama.

EnidButton · 01/10/2017 00:05

Oh but not ott drama involving poor Tom being hurt physically. Sad

ellenanora5 · 01/10/2017 00:59

I have an awful feeling Tom is going to be left an orphan and he'll go live with the nice neighbour who he said that she is the only person he can talk to.

I'm not loving this series as much as the first one.

Powergower · 01/10/2017 09:03

This series is terrible. And Gemma med to stop with all the crazy eye acting. Shifty eye movements constantly do not build up tension. Every buildup has been a complete anti climax. What absolute rubbish.

CatastropheKate · 01/10/2017 09:31

I have an awful feeling Tom is going to be left an orphan

But there's talk of series 3 - unless of course that's a big fat lie just to make it more shocking on Tuesday.

I think I'm overthinking this. And I've just realised that the 'big reveals' (that we look forward to and then slate on here) are merely passing moments in an imaginary world.

Looking forward to the next one though :-)

Leftfield prediction: Hypochondriac Chap to prove pivotal

My money's now on Gemma's former patient, the hypochondriac chap who virtually camps out at the surgery, to link everything up nicely.

Think about it:

  • Gemma was sympathetic and appeared to take his concerns more seriously than her colleagues.
  • So he probably harbours only positive/ protective (maybe even romantic?) feelings towards her.
  • Wouldn't have taken kindly to anyone he perceived to be making trouble for his understanding Dr. [Sian/ Kate]
  • Possibly jealous of any past/present sexual partners. [Simon/ James/ Neil]
  • He was loitering about so much that he became unnoticeable: was probably privy to witnessing all sorts/overhearing private conversations between staff members
(and gossiping locals/ protagonists of the plot, in the waiting area?).

Oh, yes, his relevance will fully reveal itself on Tuesday.

ellenanora5 · 01/10/2017 12:59

Ah right I didn't know that CastropheKate, not sure I could sit through another series of it.

What happened to the other woman who was Simons secretary I think, she was covering up the affair also, she didn't appear in this series did she.

I forgot about the hypochondriac chap, you could be onto something there Zuzu.
