Jodie Comer (Kate) was very good in last year's "Thirteen" (BBC3).

5-parter about a young woman readjusting to life, having just escaped from 13 years of kidnap and cellar imprisonment as a teenager.

No longer available on iPlayer, apparently, but maybe any clued-up MNers can advise as to other formats?

Plot/ character details here (interesting to hear Jodie's RL Scouse accent, too, in the interview clip "Jodie Comer unwraps Ivy Moxam" ).

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 27/09/2017 14:17

intime,

Isn't Roz supposed to be on her honeymoon, full of newly-married bliss?!

Maudlinmaud · 27/09/2017 14:24

Zuzu she is a great actress, I saw her in Rillington place too. That was a great watch but it really scared me.

Serendip16 · 27/09/2017 14:29

Gemma would be enough to send any one running or going slightly bonkers. Just watching her is exhausting. She is a controlling, self centred ,vindictive witch. Totally unbelievable, her son is quietly going round the bed too, no wonder her husband had an affair, she could hardly have been a bundle of laughs before. Don't see why any man wouldn't be off.

The80sweregreat · 27/09/2017 14:31

Gemma is a bit of an oddball. i just feel sorry for Tom in all this.

Onecutefox · 27/09/2017 14:48

Serendipity, Gemma's ex, Simon, has also been unfaithful to Kate who behaves normal except being an OW.

bridgetoc · 27/09/2017 14:49

Last nights episode was another classic. People wanting grittty, realistic, untheatrical T.V need to look elsewhere. Doctor Foster is pure drama at it's far fetched best. A Great script combined with great acting from everyone in it makes for addictive viewing. Even people who claim that they don't like it can't help but watch.

I love the way that almost every character is flawed in some way, even poor Tom, and I have a feeling that it's going to be him that we see the back of next week. I hope I'm wrong........

We saw Bertie Carvel (who plays Simon) playing Rupert Murdoch on the west end stage this week. He's as good in that as he is in Doctor Foster. He was great in Matilda as Miss Trunchbull as well.Grin My son still can't believe it's the same person.

Cromwell1536 · 27/09/2017 15:02

I am addicted to this hilariously overblown tosh. Even my husband has been drawn in, and just rolls around laughing - "you got your cock out and put it in her". Simon's not even fanciable, with his nasty little red tongue, mouth-breathing and funny teeth. Hope the denouement is satisfying. What can Simon have told Tom? that his mother pretended to have killed him in order to hurt his father? In the light of all the other bad behaviour, really so what?

The80sweregreat · 27/09/2017 15:18

Dont know what he will tell Tom, its bugging me. Maybe that she isnt his real mum, or he isnt his dad, or they adopted him? really dont know,

Papafran · 27/09/2017 15:23

no wonder her husband had an affair, she could hardly have been a bundle of laughs before. Don't see why any man wouldn't be off

Or, if she was such a nightmare, he could have behaved like a decent human and end the marriage rather than going behind her back for 2 years and then walking out on his son.

Yes, I am overly invested in this show...

TizzyDongue · 27/09/2017 15:26

Im wondering if Simon told Tom that Gemma didn't want him. That she wanted to have an abortion and rejected him after he was born - or went back to work early to get away from him

"The best acting in this was the one who plays Kate."

Totally agree.

HelenaDove · 27/09/2017 15:45

"You mean the creepy serial adulterer who shags random women he meets in bars and then gets upset when his long-suffering wife finally has enough and leaves him? Why the fuck would Gemma want to be 'saved' by him?"

EXACTLY Neil is being described as shaggable Neil despite being a serial cheat himself.

While Kate is being called all sorts on these threads despite having ONE affair with Simon.

Underlying misogyny here and a higher standard of behaviour being expected from women as usual.

Snapespeare · 27/09/2017 15:58

I do wonder if some of the responses on this thread depend largely on whether you were fucked around on in a relationship/left for an OW or were the OW/2nd wife.

'no wonder her husband left her' when we first met Gemma and Simon, they were for all intents and purposes a happily married couple where he was shagging someone else behind her back. He's an entitled prick. Her behaviour is her response to being treated abysmally by her ex-husband, who pissed off for two years and then bowls back and expects her to leave town.

NikiBabe · 27/09/2017 16:02

While Kate is being called all sorts on these threads despite having ONE affair with Simon.

One affair lasting two years and she was utterly remorseless. Not a care for who she hurt.

She has got her just desserts

HelenaDove · 27/09/2017 16:13

"she was utterly remorseless. Not a care for who she hurt"

While Neil was thinking of his wife the whole time and during every conquest. Hmm

scrabbler3 · 27/09/2017 16:19

Jodie Comer is fantastic. She's going to have a long and illustrious career. Bertie Cavell is also doing a very good job.

No scenes featuring Gemma floating around her kitchen with a goblet of wine looking grimly into the middle distance, thank god. And no unlikely workplace scenes either - the goings-on in that surgery are bonkers, with car park diagnoses and folk barging into each other's consulting rooms.

HelenaDove · 27/09/2017 16:25

Agree Jodie is a fab actress. I highly recommend this which i saw on BBC1 three years ago.

A supernatural drama she was in.

MargotLovedTom1 · 27/09/2017 16:28

Tizzy I was thinking that as well. As pp have commented, Dr F had a child unbelievably young for someone training to be a doctor, so I wonder if she had an unsuccessful abortion when she found she was pregnant with Tom, and Simon has told Tom this.

Papafran · 27/09/2017 16:37

Well, I wouldn't have too much sympathy but to be fair she was a young and naive idiot. However, she was a class A bitch to Gemma and Tom and if I were her, there is no way in hell I would agree to move back to my DH's home town and rub our relationship in his ex's face. She was very cold, cruel and dismissive towards Gemma and showed zero remorse for anything. I do not feel sad that her marriage is now disintegrating or that she gets to experience being cheated on.

Simon is beyond contempt. No more needs to be said.

Neil is an utter sleazeball and creep and I have no sympathy for him either.

I do have sympathy for Gemma because I think I would also be driven to the edge if my horrible cheating ex moved back with his smug wife and formulated a plan to drive me out of the town I had lived in for years and where I had laid my roots.

So in order of preference:
Gemma
Kate (just about)
Neil
Simon

Yamayo · 27/09/2017 16:45

That scene where he talks about her body and what she can do with it... it was hideous.
He was literally reducing Kate to a fresher more pliable body. Wow.

And first the sex was really good them it was bad and he finished out of politeness?
How patronising. When has he ever been polite to Gemma?

Poor Tom. That scene in the bath was so sad.

Cagliostro · 27/09/2017 16:46

It was interesting he said about him and Gemma having 'the kind of sex he misses' but there was no reference to anything being rough/violent in series 1. It all seemed rather gentle back then

I wonder if tom will kill slimon

His tantrum reminded me of Yosemite Sam.

ZuzuMyLittleGingersnap · 27/09/2017 17:08

"His tantrum reminded me of Yosemite Sam."

God, that's it! (With shades of PP's earlier suggestion of Verruca Salt strop).

TurnipCake · 27/09/2017 17:12

Does Tom know that Gemma had implied that she had killed him in the first season? Maybe that's what Simon told him.

Hope Tom goes to live with next-door neighbour

gingeristhenewblack43 · 27/09/2017 18:16

Tizzy that was my thoughts too! It must have been something that was hurtful to Tom for him to go and live with Slimon!
