Welcome back all.

I think Simon told tom that Gemma was involved in the death of granny.

southeastdweller · 27/09/2017 18:28

Her behaviour is her response to being treated abysmally by her ex-husband

Yes, a demented and rather pathetic one. I wasn't cheering her on last night when she told Kate she'd fucked Simon, I just thought 'Get a life, you sad cow'.

TinselTwins · 27/09/2017 18:31

Simon didn't tell Tom anything. Gonna fucked that relationship up all by herself

TalkingOrmer · 27/09/2017 18:36

Can someone explain to me why the driveway woman would be firiends with Gemma when Gemma has shagged her husband?

Maybe I've missed something?

Thanks

TinselTwins · 27/09/2017 18:46

She's not FRIENDS with Gemma, she's FRIENDLY with her, which isn't quite the same thing

  1. They bonded when she came to her rescue after Simon's attack
  2. She cares about Tom, and keeping an eye on Gemma = looking out for tom
NearLifeExperience · 27/09/2017 19:10

Enjoyed that episode, what fun!

Mystified by the underuse of the blonde doctor: she was introduced in a flourish and seemed important because she was an old friend of Simon's and didn't hit it off with Gemma. Now she's helping Gemma, but why? Especially as Gemma so rudely left her house without a word!

I expect she'll feature more heavily next week.

mishfish · 27/09/2017 21:14

Oooh just caught up. Thought this episode was fab.

@intimeandspace I'm not too far from you!

I'm trying to figure out he copse wood way appearances as that's closer to me

AndersArms · 27/09/2017 21:57

Also caught up. The scene with Tom in the bath was so sad. I really worry that he is borderline suicidal thanks to his ridiculous parents.

They are all so unlikeable reAlly, apart from Kate's Dad.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/09/2017 23:37

Eh? How? Confused

SinisterBumFacedCat · 27/09/2017 23:42

But Simon moving to same town and effectively stalking her is ok. Misogyny on this thread is so depressing.

I know it is making me so angry.

Re watch the older episodes. Last episode of season 1, Gemma wakes up in bed alone, signs her divorce papers, pays a visit to work where they encourage her to come back, has a coffee in the square with her son and she holds her head high and barely acknowledges Kate and Simon as they drive off.

First episode of season 2, Tom and Gemma having a jokey text exchange about what coffee she wants him to bring home, she has risen to head of the GP practice, Tom is content and has Isabelle and Max over after school. No suggestion at the end of series one or beginning of series 2 that they are unhappy or that Simon has even crossed their minds in any way. They have left well alone and whilst Gemma may still be hurt, she has made no attempt to contact Simon and doesn't want him back.

As soon as Simon shows up with a clear intent to drive Gemma out of town in a month, starting his mess again, both Gemma and Tom's lives fall apart and Kate is desperately unhappy too. Simon makes a spectacle of himself, deliberately wants to sabotage Neil's marriage, sends estate agents round to the house, etc etc. And somehow all of this is Gemma's fault?!

It is unbelievable in this day and age how women still naturally blame the woman as unhinged.

NikiBabe · 28/09/2017 01:09

In their first conversation Simon starts it. Asking Gemma if he thinks of her and says that he still dreams of her. Taunts her for not moving on and remarks she has had that blouse for 2 years.

But everyone is blaming Gemma for this.....

EnidButton · 28/09/2017 01:30

Ooooooooooooh!

Just finished watching it. Well! That was all quite exciting. Lots of Kate this week which was good. Loved the 'think through the consequences' scene.

Although "...finishing it was politeness" Hahahahaha! Grin wtf?

EnidButton · 28/09/2017 01:31

Oh hang on has it kicked off a bit? I'll catch up with tft now. Blush

EnidButton · 28/09/2017 01:51

Caught up now. I feel no sympathy for Simon whatsoever.

Also remembered the photo bit. I wear skinny jeans, boots and a leather jacket along with half the female population of Britain I better not cross paths with Slimon, he won't be able to control himself.

Slartybartfast · 28/09/2017 08:09

imagine if you went out for a drink with Gemma, you wouldn't be able to keep up, she would be up at the bar every 2 minutes Shock

DurhamDurham · 28/09/2017 08:33

I liked it when Kate said to Simon that he was 'obsessed, have her'

Simon is despicable and Gemma is deranged, they deserve each other. Poor Tom deserves neither of them. It's a ridiculous show but I can't wait until next week.

Inkanta · 28/09/2017 11:32

Kate is lucky to have a secure base and nice parents. That probably helped her to make the clean break of it and walk away. Gemma's not quite so lucky - seem to remember her background was not warm and loving. Vaguely remember an odd meeting with her mum.

Lottapianos · 28/09/2017 12:22

I agree Inkanta - exactly the sort of parents you would want at your back when your husband behaves like a total scumbag

Cromwell1536 · 28/09/2017 12:38

Inkanta, Gemma was orphaned at 16 - both parents died in a car accident. The meeting was with her foster mum/carer. So, her back story includes being super-strong and focused to overcome devastating grief and make it in a very competitive field - getting herself to medical school. Which in turn could make her reaction to her husband's extremely ordinary cheating on her (not minimising adultery, just saying it's not the five-act tragic opera, requiring the full panoply of revenge and choral witnesses that she seems to think it) seem very out of character for someone who has coolly risen above the worse experiences; or it could be just the accident waiting to happen as she hasn't dealt with her adolescent grief. I can' really understand why else she would have been such a surrendered wife in the first series to leave ALL the family finances to her husband, saying "he was always better at it". She's a GP! she's running a business, it's not as if she's a hospital based consultant where yes, you could conceivably just focus on the clinical aspects of the job. She seems to be totally cut off from reality in many ways - that's why she's frequently described as unhinged. It's not misogyny to say so.

Maudlinmaud · 28/09/2017 12:42

Ooohh could Simon be about to share something with Tom about how Gemma's parents died? I wonder, that all seems unresolved.

NikiBabe · 28/09/2017 13:46

Gemma's parents died in a car crash when she was a teen. They didnt tell her much.

She hadnt even met Simon yet.

Jeez the daggers are really out for Gemma....some of you think she had something to do with her parents deaths?

Victim blaming in the extreme now and it is getting ridiculous.

Inkanta · 28/09/2017 15:06

Thanks for that Cromwell. So she's carrying trauma from being orphaned and yes that loss would have been the worst experience of her life. Can see that the adultery loss felt just as terrible.

She did seem to come to terms with the loss until Smug Beard returned and goaded her - 2 years on.

And so that was her foster mum she went to see last series. There wasn't much warmth there.

Lotsofsighing · 28/09/2017 15:17

I know Dr Foster isn't exactly a documentary but there was one glaring factual error last week that's bugging me. Simon is told he's got nothing, just the suit he's standing in, because the house was in Kate's name. But they got married in ep1 didn't they, which means that he's entitled to at least some share of it whether he put anything in or not.

Ditto, Kate and her family absolutely won't be able to (nor should they be able to) prevent him seeing his child. There isn't a court that would agree to that - I don't know about French law but he'd be able to get a divorce in this country as that's where they got married and where habitually resident.

So he's not really on his uppers, he'll get enough money to buy a house that Amelie can come and stay in.

On a different note, I don't get the Kate-hate. She was a very young 21 when they started sleeping with one another, a girl who had been infantalised by doting parents who then starts sleeping with a much older man. Yes of course she's the other woman, but he clearly groomed her and was exploiting her naivety.

Also, was last week the first we heard about Kate's brother? I can't remember him in series 1 but Neil Stuke seemed to be making a big deal about his train sets (or something, wasn't really listening).

NikiBabe · 28/09/2017 15:25

@lotsofsighing a pre-nup was discussed during the episode.

One exists and the terms of ot by kate revealled as all he had to do was not fuck up for 2 years and everything would have been equal. It took him all of 2 months to fuck up.
