GBBO - opinions?

What are people's opinions on the new Bake Off so far? And yes, I know we're only a few minutes in. IMO the new presenters feel a bit like they're trying a little too hard to be Mel and Sue.

Opinions?

I bake but there's no way I could've made 2\3 of those biscuits!!!! It's an amateur home bakers' contest fgs.

ElChan03 · 07/09/2017 15:00

Been really impressed with the new series. Bit fresher feeling. My DP said let's watch another and was disappointed he would have to wait a week lol

BitOutOfPractice · 07/09/2017 15:02

I thought Noel and Sandi got much more into their stride on this one. I like it. The only ad break that irks is the one before the results

nicolasturgeonGRTRtheresamay · 07/09/2017 15:08

Well I just found both weeks it was pretty obvious who would win, he's been so far ahead. Usually there's a few at the top of the class.

ppeatfruit · 07/09/2017 15:10

Hi BOOP Grin I go and make a cup of tea and then they cut the ad break short ! i've missed the endings twice! Luckily I record it but yes it is certainly annoying.

mumofone234 · 07/09/2017 17:42

Argh, I missed it so am watching on 4od but they inserted a rogue advert break and cut out the fortune cookie challenge! Has anyone else had this problem?

WellThisIsShit · 07/09/2017 22:01

The fortune cookie bit was quite jumping and cut a million times in a minute, when I watched it on 4od!

I've been pleasantly impressed by it so far, thought I'd hate it and still feel very cross at the whole thing.

Feel sightly disloyal to say I like it so far!

Adore Mel and Sue, and Mary in her way too. Never keen on Paul, think he's probably rather unkind and mean off screen.

However, I love Sandi and so had my fingers crossed that she made the new version good in its own way. I can see the beginnings of raport between her & Noel.

Will go find extra slice now, had forgotten all about that :)

Crispbutty · 07/09/2017 22:40

I'm trying to watch Bake off extra slice but Sarah millicans cackle and voice is making me want to throw a brick at the tv 😡

Inkanta · 08/09/2017 01:46

'The fortune cookie bit was quite jumping and cut a million times in a minute, when I watched it on 4od!'

Yes the camera work is still dizzying. Needs to calm down.

leccybill · 08/09/2017 21:32

I'm not missing Mel at all. Missing Sue but only cos I love her.

DD was pleased Sandi and Noel said 'bake' in a funny voice in episode 2.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 08/09/2017 22:36

I'm missing Sue too. I want her to be my best friend - I will bake lots of cake for her.

Ohhh God that sounds creepy! GrinBlush

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 08/09/2017 23:08

I fast forward through most of it...I stop for the judging. I am not sure what has changed exactly, but it all feels very stale and boring now.😒

ppeatfruit · 09/09/2017 10:07

Yeah I geddit LastGirl Grin "stale" Grin

It takes all sorts I suppose.

Laur3010 · 09/09/2017 10:41

Ad breaks are the worst... and I'm not so sure about Paul anymore ... but loving Noel and allllll the baking (even the bakers as they usually take longer to warm to).
The show itself isn't too dissimilar so that's nice!

dazzlingdeborahrose · 09/09/2017 13:03

I didn't get to the first advert break. Turned it off. To be fair Paul was my least favourite of the presenters. I've never warmed to Prue in n anything I've seen her in. Love Sandy but Noel fielding has always been like nails down a blackboard to me. So it was never off to a good start. The first two contestants just irritated the hell out of me so I just thought I can't watch this and turned it off.

ChampagneSocialist1 · 09/09/2017 20:39

Loved it, liking the dynamics developing between the presenters but format still familiar. Feel it'll go the way of HIGNFY when Angus Deayton left and it continued to go from strength to strength

LastGirlOnTheLeft · 09/09/2017 22:34

Fruit...that was unintentional!!!😂😂

BiglyBadgers · 10/09/2017 08:34

I watched it last night on 4od and liked it way more than I expected. I liked the fact they kept the basics the same and haven't tried to add any extra drama into it, which was my main worry with it moving to 4. The thing I have always loved about gbbo is that everyone on it seems to get on and be nice to each other. I would have hated to see that change. As it was as soon as I saw all the bakers helping each other out with one of the challenges I knew it was going to be ok.

I also enjoyed the knowing nods from the presenters to the change in personnel. It was endearing that they seemed genuinely slightly awed by what they had taken on.

The tasks also seemed pretty good and nicely challenging. The right 2 people have gone and I think there will be some fun times ahead as numbers go down.

ppeatfruit · 11/09/2017 09:53

Last night dh and I were watching an old BBC GBBO where Nadiya was breaking through, she was star baker. The standard of the ice cream rolls was not high!

I love her programme about her British Food Adventure, they discovered a real star there.

MusicToMyEars800 · 11/09/2017 14:36

I'm warming to it a lot more now, I think Sandy and Noel are getting more comfortable which shows in their presenting.

yawning801 · 13/09/2017 07:36

What did people think last night?

OP posts:
shaggedthruahedgebackwards · 13/09/2017 07:41

I really enjoyed last night's episode, sat down to watch it about 830 so was able to FF through the ads again

I loved Prue's reaction to Julia's phallic snail!

Great set of contestants and the new presenters look more comfortable each week

papayasareyum · 13/09/2017 08:20

I love it, Sandi and Noel are brilliant!
And I'm getting a crush on Noel, didn't really realise who he was before. He's got lovely eyes

ppeatfruit · 13/09/2017 08:57

Yes it was good. I LOVED those breads with the natural colours and flavourings, so clever. Julia deserved to win star baker. Also that they had to make a basic cottage loaf.

I like that Pru is so much more relaxed with Paul , she's more senior than him but doesn't make a big thing of it. She just doesn't let him always get the first word in!

Redpony1 · 13/09/2017 10:50

I loved it!! I'm enjoying it more than previous series.
