Anyone else looking forward to GBBO starting again?

I know it won't be the same without Mary, Mel and Sue but it's still got cake!

So what that he bakes great cakes for friends and may get money for them? It's not like he's been formally trained and cooks for a living. He's not a professional.

I suppose it depends if family and friends give him money for cakes or if he has an informal business. If it's the first then I'd still consider it a hobby, if he's doing orders for people he doesn't know then I'd think he had an unfair advantage.

I know him, it is and always has been a hobby. He is a very talented baker but has a day job that is completely unrelated to baking.

There's such a difference from the first series in terms of ability isn't there?

Bread week is usually my favourite but I was a bit disappointed by this one. It seemed a bit style over substance for the use of colourings rather than flavours.

I missed this week. Has this thread gone from Steve's Fan Club to We hate Smug Steve in only a week?
Cake making for family and friends at mates' rates doesn't count. I know someone who has done cakes into double figures now but is still very much a hobby baker.

It's not Steve him self who's the issue. It's the way Paul fawns all over him and clearly wants him to win, even when he shouldn't. Peu had to put her foot down!

I've had squid in pasta before and liked it but I'm unconvinced of the point of the exercise. I'd rather they asked for 3 different types of flour or something along those lines.

Yes, I wasn't impressed with the squid ink either, I thought that some of them did use different flours. I'm going to watch again , mainly to see the reaction to the snail and what Pru said to Paul , she can handle him

No Fekko I think the squids probably give their lives with their ink . They aren't the prettiest of creatures. I certainly wouldn't have chosen to feature one, or an octopus, in a bread sculpture!!

So I rewatched it and yes Paul very nearly 'lost it' over the snail and Pru sharply tells him to pull himself together. He splutters that he will 'in a minute' even dh was pissing himself laughing. (how times have changed ,showing my age here, they would've cut that scene 10 years ago!)

I will watch An Extra Slice later, was it good?
