Anyone else looking forward to GBBO starting again?

I know it won't be the same without Mary, Mel and Sue but it's still got cake!

I really enjoyed it, the bakers are the main interest and there seem to be some good personalities. I really liked Pru too, I wasn't sure I would. I'm a big fan of both Sandi and Noel but I agree with a pp - I think they were both nervous. I hope the chemistry and humour will develop as the show goes on.

Whoever said they are trying to be like Mel & Sue - of course it sounds like that - it is the same writers, producers, and production team. They are being paid to make the same show for C4.

I even tolerated the ads, but then I am very pregnant and need to see a lot.

The cakes though! Some were amazing and quite a vast difference in skill shown across the challenges. I also am a little in love with Steven. A brilliant batch of bakers, I think it's set up to be a great series.

Fekko · 30/08/2017 18:09

I forgot I was supposed to not like it and rather enjoyed it. The ads make me chuckle too.

I'm not a big fan of Noel but then he's ok I guess. I quite like the new Mary Berry.

Hihellohi · 30/08/2017 19:22

Another one who thought it was pretty good. Didn't mind the ad breaks.
Mel and Sue were annoying anyway with their lame jokes and interfering. And glad there's no boring history lesson about the cakes.
Don't get the Paul Hollywood dislike that he gets.
Like Beyoncé sang, this show shows that nobody is irreplaceable!!

CarolinePenvenen · 30/08/2017 19:48

Finally caught up with it - channel 4 aren’t as quick off the mark with their catch up service. I was amazed how similar it was. Paul is still annoying, I like Prue in Great British Menu anyway and I’ve always loved Sandi. Noel I’d never heard of and he was ok but not suited at all to a baking programme. Don’t know what they were thinking with that. The ads are a real pisser though. But all in all it’s not bad.

Fekko · 30/08/2017 19:49

So what are we all watching tonight?

LemonRedwood · 30/08/2017 20:01

They didn't replace any segments with the ads - it's in a longer slot to accommodate the ads. They've never done the extra bits in the early programmes.

ChardonnaysPrettySister · 30/08/2017 20:02

Berlin station on Netflix.
They do good cakes in Berlin.

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2017 08:52

soupforbrains I agree except IMO there is a lot of justification in hating that horrible margarine product (and it's advert, I won't repeat it's name, i'll get bleedin cookies), it's because it is no doubt made with the cheapest ingredients they can find; palm oil, etc.to the detriment of the environment, exploitative of the cows, workers etc etc.

Floellabumbags · 31/08/2017 09:07

I wanted to hate it but I really enjoyed it, despite Dr Oetker's talking cake.

I really like the woman who did the watermelon, though I can't see her winning. I like the Russian woman too. Not so keen on champagne bucket woman or the IT guy, I think he's better in his own head than he is in reality.

InvisibleCities · 31/08/2017 10:44

The thing that made me miss Mel and Sue was the lack of contestant support. Not that Sandi/Noel didn't offer any, but Mel or Sue would almost definitely have been on hand to commiserate with the "lost some of my bottom" chap (I never learn their names until a few eps in, sorry!) and what about the blonde woman who threw her first attempt away EVERY SINGLE TIME? She looked increasingly upset and frustrated and was just left to it. That would not have happened on Mel and Sue's watch... I hope that Noel and Sandi are mixing in with the bakers and not hiding away in a trailer until they are called to film certain bits, because that will take away some of the warmth of the show.

ppeatfruit · 31/08/2017 12:06

Of course it could just be the editing Invisible That woman who threw her stuff away I called handbag cake lady (I'm copying a clever pp though!). She did seem in need of a consoling word.

I'm surprised that she got in the next round, maybe they took pity on her.

Fekko · 31/08/2017 13:24

I like the Serbian woman - but can she please stop pulling faces like a five year old!

SuffolkNWhat · 31/08/2017 21:11

Anyone watching Extra Slice tonight?

ArseholesOnToast · 31/08/2017 21:37

I am 😊 I love the home bakes people send in photos of...some are amazing and others make me howl they're so bad

I think Prue is going to be a guest on tonight's show.

LottieDoubtie · 31/08/2017 21:46

I will be too. Watching educating greater Manchester first. 😃

It feels all autumny...

LottieDoubtie · 31/08/2017 23:00

Verdict?

I thought it was the same as ever- cozy jumper territory! Pru is growing on me.

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 08:20

Yes I'll watch ES, it's fun, is Jo Brand still on it?

bookbook · 01/09/2017 08:22

ppeat - it was on last night 10 o clock
I only saw the last bit as I forgot it was on !

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 08:40

Thanks book Oh darn I forgot too! It was on a Friday last time. I wonder if they'll repeat it, they did repeat GBBO.

ArseholesOnToast · 01/09/2017 10:49

Yes, ES was just the same as before, complete with the extra raspberry on the cake in the opening credits Grin

OP posts:
ArseholesOnToast · 01/09/2017 10:51

Yes Jo Brand is still hosting, everything is the same except there's adverts which didn't annoy me as much as they did on the main show.

WhyOhWine · 01/09/2017 10:58

I thought Pru came across really well on ES. Also Peter, the evicted contestant, was funny and also came across well. Shame he went so early from that point of view (although i did just about think he was the right person to go).

Dillite2 · 01/09/2017 11:09

I don't know if this has been posted but it made me laugh

GBBO - starts tomorrow
LottieDoubtie · 01/09/2017 12:02

I saw that on FB earlier it is very funny!

ppeatfruit · 01/09/2017 13:31

Thanks Aholesontoast Grin

Yes I to liked Peter too. Whyohwine He came over well on telly. The handbag cake lady should've gone IMO. Though, of course, I didn't taste their cakes. Grin
