Anyone else looking forward to GBBO starting again?

I know it won't be the same without Mary, Mel and Sue but it's still got cake!

There was the dodgy champagne bottle moment for Noel too. Plus he creased when Pru told that young lad "I'd like to come to yours for breakfast"

SingaSong12 · 30/08/2017 08:12

Watched some on catch up due to ads. I didn't watch first series of BBC GBBO - was the chemistry between the presenters there right from the start - maybe need to give time to develop? Problem with catch-up is my Viegin is incredibly slow to get it so was to tired to watch it all. Maybe I'll just watch live with a book for the breaks next week.

SingaSong12 · 30/08/2017 08:14

too tired - obviously still sleepy now after good night sleep.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 08:42

I thoroughly enjoyed it. Its better than the previous format.

mydogisthebest · 30/08/2017 08:46

I started watching 20 mins in (was recording it) so I could fast forward the ads.

I thought Noel seemed awkward and maybe nervous but hopefully that was because it was the first one. I wasn't very keen on Pru but hopefully she will improve too.

I really liked Mary and Mel and Sue used to make me laugh but I really watched it for the bakers and that hasn't changed at all.

Rhubarbginisnotasin · 30/08/2017 08:51

I like Pru, she's a judge on the Great British Menu and does a good job of it. I think she's more natural than Mary.

BorisTrumpsHair · 30/08/2017 08:55

Wow it is pretty much exactly the same as previous series! Grin. But with ads.

The world is not going to end - hurrah!

ArseholesOnToast · 30/08/2017 09:06

I watched it on channel 4seven but was behind so could whizz through the ads. They annoyed me especially that extra ad break near the end.

I really enjoyed it and I liked Noel. I wasn't too keen on Pru and I thought Paul was giving out the handstakes a bit early but I didn't really miss Mary, Mel and Sue.

Flo's watermelon was magnificent.

Oh great to find a thread about GBBO (I was thinking of starting one yesterday 'cos I couldn't find this one!)

Yes I reckon it's not bad at all. Pru is a classy lady I love her. Paul seemed happier than usual. I thought Sandi and Noel were nervous, they'll probably relax later on.

I agree with the majority of you I HATE THE ADS esp. that sneaky one right at the end.

The standard of the baking was very high. Though handbag cake lady was lucky not to go. Shame about Peter maybe her cakes tasted better?

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2017 11:06

Oh dear have I killed the thread Grin I just heard on the news that last night got 5 million viewers, good for channel 4 but much less than the beeb got towards the end of their series.

Dancergirl · 30/08/2017 11:12

It's rubbish. Noel and Sandi are NOT funny and they're trying too hard to be like Mel and Sue. Shame as I am normally a big fan of Sandi.

Pru lacks warmth. And the ads are bloody annoying. Bet they'll lose loads of viewers.

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2017 11:21

Oh no I like Pru I thought she was warmer than Mary! Still we're all different!

ArseholesOnToast · 30/08/2017 11:40

I found the last BBC GBBO disappointing. The way that both Paul and Mary fawned over Candice every week was irritating and we all knew she was going to win it despite some of her stuff being a bit shit, like the pub she made.

OP posts:
PuppyMonkey · 30/08/2017 11:47

I didn't hate it. Thought Pru and Sandi were fine, not sure about Noel - his voiceover bit was appalling compared to Sandi's.

I knew the adverts were coming, and I didn't think they were as bad as some are saying. They at least waited until each section was finished before running them - they just replaced the usual historic films that Mel and Sue used to do. The only one that grated was the very last one before the results were announced - missed the beginning of Trust Me for that.

I'll watch next week.

GallinaGuapa · 30/08/2017 11:48

I really liked it (except for the last annoying ad break). I'm pleased that the format is the same and I liked the new presenters.

The baking contestants make the show IMO, worth watching just to see Flo's watermelon!

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2017 11:55

Yes Arseholes I thought that Candice wasn't that great, I can't remember if there was anyone better though!

LottieDoubtie · 30/08/2017 12:01

It's an interesting thought though isn't it- it really is all about the bakers and it doesn't actually matter who is judging/presenting.

The format is bigger than any (all) of the people being paid to be there.

ppeatfruit · 30/08/2017 12:07

Sorry just heard the news again they said 6 and a 1/2 million.

Oh that ad for effing cheap stork marg. got on my nerves too

soupforbrains · 30/08/2017 13:24

I'm still irrationally annoyed by sodding 'Stork with Butter' I have no justification for this.

I think that we need to give Sandi and Noel a little time to settle in and get their chemistry. Remember additionally that in these first couple of weeks when there are a lot of bakers in the tent it takes longer for all the bakes to be shown and reviewed so less time is given in editing to any tent banter from Mel &Sue and now Sandi and Noel. I think they show potential, Noel's eating the flower in order to stick up for the baker for example, was exactly the sort of thing that Mel might have done. we need to give them a little time.

Stephen to win

CaveMum · 30/08/2017 13:54

I can't quite get my head around them having 2 "official" series sponsors- Dr Oetker and Tate & Lyle. That's a pretty good financial result for Channel 4.

Also, they said that as long as they get at least 3 million viewers per epsiode they will make a profit, so presumably advert and sponsorship revenues are tied to viewing figures?

Ceto · 30/08/2017 15:36

They at least waited until each section was finished before running them - they just replaced the usual historic films that Mel and Sue used to do

Did they? I watched online but at the correct time (DH got to the TV first Sad), and there were at least two ad breaks that weren't between separate sections.

FlaviaAlbia · 30/08/2017 15:55

I watched it on the app, I can't work out how to skip the adverts on it but I liked it. It's not the same, but it's good.

Will have to check if they've put the recipes up, I really liked the sound of the coconut cake.

I still think Noel Fielding looks like he needs a good wash though.

PuppyMonkey · 30/08/2017 16:02

You can't skip through the ads on 4OD or All4 or whatever it's called.

PracticalTacticalBrilliance · 30/08/2017 16:53

I'm pretty sure that they don't normally start the history bits until a bit later in the series, once they have space because contestants have left.

The show was on for longer than an hour yesterday so it could make up the time used for the ads.

InvisibleCities · 30/08/2017 17:15

I enjoyed it a lot. Maybe an unpopular opinion but I felt the original show was developing a very soggy bottom... Bringing in new people has made it feel fresh again. Noel is suppressing his natural personality a bit, but he needs to. It's GBBO, not a surreal Noel Fielding show!
