Anyone else looking forward to GBBO starting again?

I know it won't be the same without Mary, Mel and Sue but it's still got cake!

I second stork to fuck off. The voice over sounds like a cheap dubbing over a foreign ad.

There's too many ad breaks too, but it did give me the chance to put a wandering DD back in bed

I did love the other presenter though, the not Noel one. I never remember her name...

soupforbrains · 29/08/2017 21:23

Sandi Toksvig. She is a queen and is amazing.

LaChatte · 29/08/2017 21:24

That last ad break was taking the piss, the others were OK as just enough time to make a cuppa raid the biscuit tin .

BlueThursday · 29/08/2017 21:27

It's funny I didn't like Sandi when I was young, she did children's TV when I was little

But when I found the News Quiz in my adult life I just adored her and still do

VanillaSugar · 29/08/2017 21:30

I'm watching it on Plus One - have there been any hair dyhe adverts for Noel yet?

CaveMum · 29/08/2017 21:44

I enjoyed it.

bookbook · 29/08/2017 21:50

well, I recorded it, and ff through the adverts.
So miles behind everyone else watching
Enjoyed it, love Flo already

LetZygonsbeZygones · 29/08/2017 21:52

Ok really enjoyed it. So similar to original. Stephen totally deserved star baker. His bread and sarnie was brilliant.

Finola1step · 29/08/2017 21:52

I liked it. Familiar format, some great bakes and some "interesting" ones. Love Sandi and Noel anyway. Dc aged 6 and 9 loved it.

Ipitythescale · 29/08/2017 21:58

I really enjoyed it. Thought Noel and Sandi were great. Only downside was the ad breaks. Started watching about 15 mins in (recorded) so could fast forward through them

Footle · 29/08/2017 22:03

Hi Cocolepew - cake on telly, yes!

HollyBollyBooBoo · 29/08/2017 22:07

I enjoyed it and feel guilty for saying that!

EsmesBees · 29/08/2017 22:18

I wasn't a fan. Think they should have done more to differentiate it from the BBC version. Noel and Sandi are both incredibly funny and dry, but that didn't come across at all today.

LottieDoubtie · 29/08/2017 22:19

Just finished it (late as ever..)

I enjoyed it too. I think it's a sorry Mary Berry turns out you are replaceable 😱

Sandi was brilliant as well. And Noel was mostly not himself so that's good too...

maxiflump1 · 29/08/2017 22:19

I really liked it although found Noel a little awkward. Thought Pru was lovely. Not feeling the Stephen love though: Tom is much easier on the eye!

IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 29/08/2017 22:27

My only joy in Channel 4 having it was a new start up with a new cake that doesn't have a stupid raspberry missing (has annoyed my for 7y so far....)....and it's still there! Raging!!

I really wish they'd (channel 4) had put their own stamp on it...obviously the presenters and a judge are different but they're not...same jokes etc!

MiddleClassProblem · 29/08/2017 22:29

I miss the talking to the bakers whilst cooking. I hope we see more of that. I think it will warm up more. I had no major qualms though.

YellowOfficeBlock · 29/08/2017 22:37

I loved it! Think it's great they've kept the same format etc even that annoying missing raspberry.

Ceto · 29/08/2017 23:18

I thought it was OK, but the adverts were seriously getting up my nose by the end. They ruin the flow of the programme.

Agoddessonamountaintop · 29/08/2017 23:44

Well I took Pru's advice forgot it was on and watched it ten minutes behind so I could ff through the ads. I liked it, found Pru a bit more personable than Mary and Paul even seemed a bit kinder than usual that won't last. Sandi and Noel seemed a bit reserved but I'm sure they'll relax into it. Flo was great, very competent and no signs of whingeing. Loved the melon (completely mad).

Agoddessonamountaintop · 29/08/2017 23:45

Sorry said 'a bit' a bit too much!Grin

crowche · 30/08/2017 01:42

What did Noel actually add? He hardly said anything apart from 'wow' and 'that's great', he didn't have anything amusing to bring to the show and if he went, no one would know (actually was hoping he really would when they told him he could go).

Prue even sounded just like Mary, in fact I forgot it wasn't Mary.

Sandi was good.

They've lost the historical bit though that Mel & Sue always used to do, which I quite liked!

Not sure if I will watch any more though.

CaveMum · 30/08/2017 06:33

The point is though that the BBC never "made" Bake Off, they just bought the rights to broadcast it. The format belongs to the production company, and Channel 4 bought the broadcast rights on the basis of the existing format, so they were never going to tinker with it too much. Why risk ruining a proven ratings winner!

LEMtheoriginal · 30/08/2017 07:06

But they put Noel fielding in it and have clearly drugged him!! I was excited about him as I thought he'd add a frisson, but the best he could come up with was moist clutch!

Snog · 30/08/2017 07:54

I'm missing Selasai this year!
Am I the only one who thinks there is zero chemistry between Sandi and Noel, in fact more like anti chemistry?
Noel seems like a shadow of himself and Sandi seems to have no idea of who he is or why he is there. I don't think he knows either.
