CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS!

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 7 "THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF"

Come and discuss the very last episode in the penultimate series, airing August 27th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones.

OP posts:
3EyedRaven · 28/08/2017 11:34

The only thing missing from this episode was ghost sigh

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 28/08/2017 11:39

I think that opening scene was at King's Landing. Mulling over my theory above it makes no sense. Grin Maybe best just not to worry about the incest.

SuperStormborn · 28/08/2017 11:40

i don't think it is a two year wait - that was just a rumour. They start filming in October so it should be out same time next yearWine

Brilliant - really enjoyed it. I was hoping for a few more deaths, but i was satisfied with LF going down. Got so cross with Sansa Grin clever starks.

Finally glad Jamie saw the light and scarpered. Betting he will head for Dragonstone, or possibly even Winterfell. I think Bronn will take off after him when he finds out he's gone. Besides i don't even think the baby is jamie's ... im thinking euron.

LOVED the jon reveal as i really wasn't expecting it. Beautifully done. Tyrion lurking at the door worried me though ... what exactly did he promise cersei that we didn't see ??

I predicted from the beginning it'd end with the wall coming down and it was really well done. Now all there is to do is wait.

brieandcrackers · 28/08/2017 11:47

Soooooo glad Jaime listened to Brienne's (and Olenna's and Tyrion's and almost everyone else's) hard truths and finally clocked on that Cersei is awful!!

Just wondering what your takes are on her sparing Tyrion's life when she had the chance to end it:

  • did she know Jaime would lose the last bit of respect he has for her if she killed their brother?
  • had she somehow planned the deception before the meeting and knew they wouldn't fall for it if Tyrion didn't return?
  • or, despite her lifelong exclusion and mistreatment of him, was there an internal struggle between her hatred and the "protect your family" mantra she preaches?
brieandcrackers · 28/08/2017 11:49

Also I LOVED Theon's smile when he was being kicked in his painless non-existent genitalia Grin hope he manages to save Yara!!

(did anyone else tear up when Jon said Theon doesn't have to choose between being a Stark and a Greyjoy as he's both)

KentMum2008 · 28/08/2017 11:52

I think the scene with Theon and Jon was really important, him saying that Theon can be both Stark and Greyjoy. So when the big reveal happens he won't have to choose who to be loyal to. He is both Stark and Targaryen and hopefully everyone will respect him as such.

Jon and Dany are DEFINITELY going to have a baby, and my betting is at the end of it all, that baby will end up on the throne. They will all die, and the baby (a girl called Rhaeanna or a boy called Aegar?!) will be shown in a flash forward (Harry Potter style) as sitting on the throne, grumpy old Tyrion as their hand, and Arya as Kings/Queensguard.

The wall coming down though Shock
I think if Beric and Tormund had died, we'd have seen it.

What else? Oh Jaime totally snubbing Brienne broke my heart. And when I thought the Mountain was going to kill him I cried. But the scene where Tyrion said to Cersei about keeping Danys most murderous impulses in check, that's what the mountain did for her then. He looked her dead in the eye and you could see her rethinking it. Lucky for Jaime!

Brienne and the hound talking about Arya as if they were proud parents 😍 When the hound asked who is protecting her and Brienne said the o my one who needs protecting is the one who gets in her way....that smile he did, like the proudest father, it was fucking adorable!

There's sooooo much to think/talk about now. I heard Sept 2018 is a possibility. The scripts are written, they'll start filming in oct apparently so I have hope! But only 6 episodes Shock

MineKraftCheese · 28/08/2017 11:59

When Arya and Sansa started on Baelish I started singing Sisters Are Doing It For Themselves Grin

Am I only the only one who loves Bran? He kicked arse in this.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 28/08/2017 12:06

I was surprised that Sam registered what he was writing, as we heard Gilly was the one reading it. I was hoping she would be the one who figured it out :(

SuperStormborn · 28/08/2017 12:13

I can't believe i actually fell for Cersei calling a truce; there was no way she'd back down.

Wheelycote · 28/08/2017 12:24

I know! I thought Jamie was going to loose his head for a moment too!Shock

Spookle · 28/08/2017 12:34

When the hound asked who is protecting her and Brienne said the o my one who needs protecting is the one who gets in her way....that smile he did,

And then he says 'It won't be me'. Bloody wonderful Grin

I knew I had missed loads in the early hours. Just rewatching again and probably will at least another two times.

SoPassRemarkable · 28/08/2017 12:34

I was really hoping Jamie would kill Cersi and then side with Jon and Dany.

crazymissdaisy · 28/08/2017 12:42

Is Cersei really pregnant? The ostentatious holding her belly (much too high up considering she is not showing yet) to make Tyrion twig made me think it's a lie, and then when Jaime said "I don't believe you" did he mean about their baby? Or that she would kill him? Also I'm about to get kittens and was thinking Jaime and Cersei would be good names, so neither is allowed to be dead/ pregnant!

Spookle · 28/08/2017 12:49

I love Bran MineKraft! His scenes with Sam were wonderful and made me grin like our grinning smiley. I hope they have lots of scenes together in S8. Sam's naivity and innocence is the perfect foil to the MAster of All Knowledge Grin

So much to talk about. Theon and Jon just amazing. Alfie Allen has been superb throughout as Theon.

Tyrion, Podrick and Bronn, awww.

Jamie, Cersei. Jamie & Tyrion I had a lump in my throat.

Cersei and Tyrion just superb.

So much win I can't get it straight in my head!

When The Hound greets The Mountain - TH says something like 'This isn't how it ends for you. You know who's coming for you, you've always known.' Does TH mean himself?

MineKraftCheese · 28/08/2017 12:52

@Spookle yay to the BranFandom Smile

Alfie Allen was absolutely incredible. Can't decide if he was better than Lena Headey but those two stole the show in acting terms for me.

GottaGetThisDone · 28/08/2017 12:52

OMG that was awesome.
Fist pumped the air and yelled YES at Little Finger - though I did wonder if perhaps Arya was playing Sansa to start Smile
I was a late comer to GoT - I watched seasons 1-6 just before season 7 started and feel GoT has fill my life since June - am bereft at it all being over for now, what am i going to do now....... ShockShock

SuperStormborn · 28/08/2017 12:57

i was hoping jamie would kill her as well. Although i have a soft spot for Cersei, i think it would really redeem his character and show his arc

GottaGetThisDone · 28/08/2017 12:58

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever I was a tad disappointed with the way they revealed about Jon - felt it was a wee bit anti-climactic - not enough to not enjoy it though

WestleyAndButtockUp · 28/08/2017 13:06

Why were Team JonNerys just waiting around to be attacked in the Colosseum? Why did they just trust in the truce? Haven't they seen Game of Thrones?

Getout21 · 28/08/2017 13:20

How good are Lena & Nikolaj. It's a testament to their acting that I love Jamie even though he's done some awful things. I love watching Cersai and will be sad when she dies even though I hate her.

tabulahrasa · 28/08/2017 13:27

"Having said that, how exactly does the un-dragon fly with those holes in its wings?"

Lol, that really really bothered me too...as well as, why does he have holes in his wings already? And, was that blue fire or ice? Because it looked cold, but melted the wall...

Notice I'm ok with dragons, an undead dragon with a whole undead army, but not with flying with holes or ice that melts, rofl.

WinchestersInATardis · 28/08/2017 13:28

Beautifully done. Tyrion lurking at the door worried me though ... what exactly did he promise cersei that we didn't see ??

Ah, that explains it a little. I was wondering at the sour-faced lurking. He's promised Cersei something. I'd love to know what. Something to do with her baby and Daenerys's supposed inability to make one? He did clunkily worry about succession not that long ago. Hmm. Can't believe we have to wait so long to find out.

And I totally called it on the Stark sisters playing Littlefinger at his own game and taking him down! Am feeling very smug about my powers of deduction Grin

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 28/08/2017 13:37

You know, before un-viserion arrived, I was already wondering why the un-army were so decayed when they have been 'on ice' since they turned (they were in the lands of always winter and only moved south as winter came?)

WinchestersInATardis · 28/08/2017 13:37

I also loved the opener: all the rows and rows of Unsullied, standing completely still, perfectly disciplined and not even blinking.
And then the contrast of the Dothraki just racing wild and screaming past them.
Made for a gorgeous scene.

Getout21 · 28/08/2017 13:44

I think I read the holes in Viserions wings were to show he was a wight & not a ice dragon/white walker & therefore could be killed by fire. But agree that flying should be affected by said holes.

I thought his "fire" was super hot fire like a blow torch.
