CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS!

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 7 "THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF"

Come and discuss the very last episode in the penultimate series, airing August 27th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones.

I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but I loved the way Cersei admonished Daenerys for keeping them waiting.

MargotLovedTom1 · 28/08/2017 13:54

Excuse crudeness but Theon only had his cock cut off, so surely kicking him in the nuts area would still hurt as he still has nuts to kick?!

I'm thinking Beric and Tormund must have been on the part of the Wall that was still standing. Agree we would have seen their deaths (although I guess we didn't explicitly see Stannis die).

I think Tyrion's look, knowing Jon and Danaerys were getting it on, was one of lovesick wistfulness. Also, Jorah: accept it! You're permanently in the friendzone; it ain't ever going to happen!

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 28/08/2017 14:18

I think the zombie dragon flies despite the holes in its wings the same way that the zombie skeleton humans walk despite the absence of crucial muscles or tendons.

I've seen reviewer and articles saying "maybe Tyrion is in love with Dany???!!!" very recently, but surely that's been screamingly obvious since season 6. Were they not even looking at him?

SenatorBunghole · 28/08/2017 14:19

Even with no nuts, those were hard kicks! If someone kicked me in the leg or arm that hard, I wouldn't be smiling.

For Tormund and Beric, I don't think we can call it either way. They've done a lot of end of season dead or not cliffhangers before, which is obviously what this was. There's precedent for deaths without us seeing it, and for don't believe they're dead without the body. It's just to keep people on edge.

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 28/08/2017 14:36

Dany's vision in the House of the Undying in A Clash of Kings:

From a smoking tower, a great stone beast took wing, breathing shadow fire

I don't thihk the books will have operation Wight-hunt, but it looks like there's going to be some form of un-dragon going on...

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 28/08/2017 14:38

I'm thoroughly back on the Jaime/Brienne ship now.

My money says that Cersei's pregnancy is either
A) a nonexistent ruse
B) Euron's
C) some unholy concoction of Quyburn's

There was something about the determination with which she seduces Jaime that made me think she was establishing plausible paternity for a pregnancy she already knew about.

My soppy ending has Jaime dying heroically in the cause of #TeamBreathing leaving Brienne pregnant.

tabulahrasa · 28/08/2017 14:45

"I think the zombie dragon flies despite the holes in its wings the same way that the zombie skeleton humans walk despite the absence of crucial muscles or tendons."

Why can't they swim then?...

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 28/08/2017 14:49

I really, really, REALLY don't like Jon being named Aegon. I just can't think of any logical explanation for Lyanna giving her son the same name as Rhaegar's other son.

crazymissdaisy · 28/08/2017 14:51

I assume they can't swim because traditionally magic can't cross running water!

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 28/08/2017 14:53

Why can't they swim then?...

They can swim - they managed to get those chains round Viserion. I think they can probably just walk under water like the undead in Pirates of the Caribbean.

They just don't like getting their hair wet.

Seriously, show-logic just follows whatever rules it needs to for any particular moment.

In the books there are undead things spotted in the water off Eastwatch, but there are also some very big autumn storms that are raging in the seas around which would probably smash them to pieces.

SenatorBunghole · 28/08/2017 14:55

Was anyone else extremely unhappy about Cersei blaming Tyrion for Tommen's death? Myrcella, yes, he clearly bears part of the blame for that one. But Tommen topped himself after she killed his wife, ffs! It's 1-1 on that score.

CeeBeeBee · 28/08/2017 14:56

Arya do you think it's to replace the Aegon plot in the books? I don't see that happening now.

Cantseethewoods · 28/08/2017 15:00

Do Jon is Dani's nephew, correct??

Also I hope they don't spend all of Season 8 fighting white walkers because the human fights are way more interesting.

OlennasWimple · 28/08/2017 15:00

What benefit would Cersei derive from Tyrion thinking that she was pregnant when she wasn't? She wasn't in peril, so didn't need to play on his emotions. Am pondering that one

I think Tyrion knows that no good comes of random boat sex between two people who have an already complicated relationship and power dynamic. Though I thought it was Jorah outside the door at first, and was ready to feel very very sorry for him (even though he's a old lech)

Are things being set up for a Brienne / Jaime / Tormund / Hound love square? I believe that Beric has got a role to play yet, so am clinging onto that as evidence that Tormund (my favourite) might also still be alive....

Euron had already left the conflab before Tyrion and Cersei agreed terms of the "truce", so I assume that she always intended to renege on her deal. So Jon did the right thing by not lying for convenience, as it would have been worthless

CeeBeeBee I don't know what they are trying to do with the fAegon storyline. The fact that they're bringing in the Golden Company for Cersei makes me think she is taking fAegon's place. There isn't any foreshadowing for Dany marrying fAegon in the books but there is for a marriage with Jon.

I think they're trying to appease 'casual' book readers who want to see any Aegon appear in the show. I don't really know - it seems to defy any logic - even show logic!

SentatorBunghole I think the point Cersei was making was that Tyrion killing Tywin weakened the Lannisters which then caused the circumstances which led to Tommen and Myrcella's deaths. It's a very typical Cersei thing to think - everything is somebody else's fault (particularly Tyrion's).

tabulahrasa · 28/08/2017 15:12

"Seriously, show-logic just follows whatever rules it needs to for any particular moment"

That's why the holes were annoying though, lol.

They've obviously gone, right, we need it to look zombified and so stuck holes on the wings.

In fairness I'm not sitting here going, pfft, it ruined it or anything Grin

It was just irritating that it wouldn't have taken much to have it consistent.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 28/08/2017 15:19

I wonder if Cersei will marry fAegon, mushing his storyline into what she does in the show?

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 28/08/2017 15:19

I think that Cersei deliberately let Tyrion know she was pregnant because it gives more weight to her claim that she suddenly cares about the future of the human race. Otherwise he'd never have believed it for a minute.

BeyondLimitsAndWhatever · 28/08/2017 15:20

That then puts Dany+Jon up against possibly the legitimate heir!

AryaUnderfootNowPrefersSansa · 28/08/2017 15:28

I don't think there is much in it for fAegon to marry Cersei, considering her current circumstances in the book. I think he is more likely to marry a Tarly or maybe a Hightower or Redwyne. I don't know enough about the 'eligible feamiles' of those houses.

He could marry Arianne.

There are theories about him marrying Sansa, but I think that's looking less and less likely now as the show suggests she stays in the North.

SenatorBunghole · 28/08/2017 16:03

SentatorBunghole I think the point Cersei was making was that Tyrion killing Tywin weakened the Lannisters which then caused the circumstances which led to Tommen and Myrcella's deaths. It's a very typical Cersei thing to think - everything is somebody else's fault (particularly Tyrion's).

Yeah but the reason for that faith militant shit was that Cersei's an idiot! Granted, that would never have happened on Tywin's watch, but nor would it have happened on hers if she'd used even one brain cell. I know she blames everyone else, she just had a cheek.

By the same token, I got a bit annoyed with Sansa blaming Littlefinger for killing Lysa Arren. The rest, fair enough!

MrsJoyOdell · 28/08/2017 16:16

I know it's because they're coming to an end, but I've genuinely found the teleportation from one place to another very irritating this season. It's such a juxtaposition from the earlier journeys - even in s6! It's farcical at times.

Also, where is Gendry? Did he stay at Eastwatch and get wighted? Did he go back to Dragonstone? Why has he gone AWOL again?

SuperStormborn · 28/08/2017 16:22

Yep i think Cersei played on her pregnancy with Tyrion as a way to manipulate him. She reminded him just before that his actions had killed her and jamie's children. So Tyrion would feel guilty as he wouldn't want to be responsible for doing anything else to put one of jamie's children in peril

SuperStormborn · 28/08/2017 16:26

cantsee
yes he is her nephew because his father was her brother.
And i wouldn't worry about S8 being all about fighting the White Walkers - they've got Cersei and Euron to fight as she's admitted to jamie that she won't make a truce

MineKraftCheese · 28/08/2017 16:27

Was just wondering aloud about Gendry to DH. If he doesn't get reunited with Arya I'll be gutted. Seems odd he wasn't mentioned. Assume he was at Castle Black but didn't it get obliterated by undragon?! Sad
