CAUTION - HERE BE DRAGONS (PROBABLY) AND SPOILERS!

THIS THREAD IS FOR DISCUSSION OF SEASON 7, EPISODE 7 "THE DRAGON AND THE WOLF"

Come and discuss the very last episode in the penultimate series, airing August 27th at 2am UK time! Don't read the thread if you want to avoid finding out what happens in Season 7 but also Seasons 1-6.

Please avoid discussing leaks and production details for Seasons 7 and 8 but speculate away on what we have learnt from the new episodes and what it might mean for the rest of the Season and the ultimate winner(s) of the Game of Thrones.

OP posts:

The Targaryens have always practised incest - Dany's parents were brother and sister. Aunt and nephew would be nothing for them.

WinterIsComingKnitFaster · 31/08/2017 09:05

Dany was brought up to expect that she'd marry her brother (so, lucky escape there).

QueenoftheAndals · 31/08/2017 09:14

God yes, Viserys was an utter shit. But given the life he had it was not surprising he ended up that way. Under the arrogance and posturing he was still the unhappy child who'd lost his parents, his home and his inheritance and had to depend on the kindness of strangers all his life. Harry Lloyd did an excellent job of portraying his underlying vulnerability and insecurity.

AryaUnderfoot · 31/08/2017 09:25

I think that for her the incest thing is going to be less important than the 'who sits the throne' argument. She does not strike me as someone who wants to be the wife of a King Aegon but would rather have him as a consort.

The noble Houses of Westeros are much more likely to want to see him take the throne given the fact that he's male, Westerosi and already supported by many powerful ruling families. There is likely to be unrest if it is the other way round and she is the 'ruling' monarch.

She has WMDs, Dothraki screamers and the Unsullied. It could all end horribly.

Whilst Dany and Jon may want the lovely, Disney ending where they both rule together in happiness and harmony, this is not GRRM's style. There are going to be no winners in this and lots of dead bodies.

Lizzzar · 31/08/2017 14:59

Yes, Game of Thrones being more Ring Cycle than Disney appears pretty reasonable.

QueenoftheAndals · 31/08/2017 17:07

I'm wondering how the Dothraki are going to cope in winter, it'll be quite a shock to their systems.

Middleoftheroad · 31/08/2017 17:46

They will have to put tunics on sadly.....

I don't think Dany will be that happy to find out Jon is Targ. Not because of the incest but the threat to her succession. After stepping out from Viserys shadow she fought hard.

However, she will be a Targ powerhouse if she is preggers with her nephew's bastard!

TheOtherGirl · 31/08/2017 17:51

I've just been looking on Amazon Prime and you still need to buy episodes or each season Sad

Middleoftheroad · 31/08/2017 17:58

PS Jon is half Targ. Was Dany's mother a Targ? ie is she full and he half? would this matter?

TheOtherGirl - you need Kodi!

AdalindSchade · 31/08/2017 18:03

Daenarys's parents were brother and sister Targaryans!

Middleoftheroad · 31/08/2017 18:27

Does she out Targaryan Jon?
That's about as close as you get with the exception of the Lanister twins.

AdalindSchade · 31/08/2017 18:33

Yes, the Targaryans practiced sibling marriages for generations so Daenarys is a very inbred targaryan! Jon has Stark DNA for half of him so he's a lot less Targaryan than her - probably a good thing

Middleoftheroad · 31/08/2017 19:04

Oh yes - echoed in his line to Theon about being both an Iron Born and a Stark

NorthernLurker · 31/08/2017 19:25

Ferdinand and Isabella ruled successfully as ruling monarchs and spouses. Right time period for an example too if much of the saga is inspired by the wars of the roses. Of course if Dany is Henry Tudor then that makes Jon Elizabeth of York, who died in childbirth eventually.

bluegrape · 31/08/2017 21:29

I don't think either Dany or Jon will rule.
I think it will be Sansa (and possibly Gendry) - especially after her masterstroke with Littlefinger.

Could the valonquar be Theon? He is Yara's little brother. I don't think it's Jamie. They made a point of showing his metal hand at the end of the last episode.

Uokbing · 31/08/2017 23:00

So if Jon and Dany had a baby, the baby's grandparents on its mums side would be brother and sister, and on its dad side its great grandparents, who are the same brother and sister? And its dad would also be its cousin? And its mum would also be its great aunt?

During the Jon and Dany scene i was shouting 'thats your auntie'!!!

I am enjoying the book talk. I gave up on i think it was book 4 during a really boring bit about the Greyjoys and Iron Islands, but before the book abd series started to really diverge.

QuentinSummers · 01/09/2017 09:28

If it is Sansa then Arya will be hand I think

jonsnowsbuttocks · 01/09/2017 10:26

Yeah what was the weird shot of Jaime's hand all about?

honeyroar · 01/09/2017 10:26

God, Sansa as queen, how boring!

I must be the only one who thinks Jon and Dany, even though a cliché, would be a good couple. She needs calming down a bit and he needs geeing up/to know how to speak to people (as in people don't seem to always trust him when he's in charge - i.e. He got stabbed at the wall and his northern lords are also a bit dubious- if the young girl hadn't stuck up for him it might not have gone his way..).

jonsnowsbuttocks · 01/09/2017 10:29

You mean Lyanna Mormont, it's actually really fitting seen as she is named after his mother, if only he knew.

honeyroar · 01/09/2017 10:31

Yes, couldn't think of her name!

AryaUnderfoot · 01/09/2017 10:31

Arya will be hand

Seven save us!

Arya as Hand would make the realm, not to mention Arya, very miserable. Master of Whisperers I can see, but not Hand. Davos, Tyrion or Sam would be better candidates.

I think it's more likely that Sansa will end up as Warden of the North and Lady of Winterfell. I would, however, put her up with Sam and Pod as 'most likely to survive the series'.
