New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Blimey it's loud in thereGrin

Well, looks like my worry that Rublev might 'do a Shapovalov' is unfounded. Today , any way. I think he will be one to watch in the future.

Feeling a bit sorry for Rublev - he has some good shots but seems a bit overwhelmed.

bookbook · 06/09/2017 20:56

it looks like a bit of a white wash from the scores - is it as one sided as it seems?

Raahh · 06/09/2017 20:56

He does, and Mac was being a bit un fair earlier, seeming to imply he wasn't trying hard enough. But this has got to be the biggest stage of his life so far, playing the world number 1. He was always going to get the wobbles.

Bloody hell. The spectators sauntering to their seats is starting to affect my blood pressure.

Whoop!

Fizzywinegum · 06/09/2017 21:08

Even Uma Thurman looked excited at Rafa taking his shirt off!

Raahh · 06/09/2017 21:14

I know Grin. I liked how he wasn't quick a getting changed Grin

bookbook · 07/09/2017 08:03

well, there is Roger gone - well done Del Potro !

Raahh · 07/09/2017 10:26

I am really pleased for Juan- wish I could have watched it, but I would never have go up this morning. Grin

I am torn now with the semi final- I want Rafa to win, but if Delpo can win the tournament, he would be in with a shout of making London. His points from this would push him up to 8/9th in the Race, with Stan ahead of him- and they obviously won't be there.

I know there are still a few tournaments to go though.

But...I want Rafa to win too Grin

Just caught up on the last 2 sets of the DelPo match. It was very good and I'm very glad for DP, he seems like such a nice, unassuming guy. Not that Roger isn't but he certainly wasn't playing at his best, so there best man won!

What are your bets on the women's semis?

Raahh · 07/09/2017 16:19

I love Delpo- he seems to be genuinely liked by players and fans alike.

The US tennis federation must be beside themselves with having 4 US women in the semi final.

For purely sentimental reasons, I would like Venus to win hers, and I'm not a huge fan of Sloane or Madison really. Coco has played really well, even if she is some thing of a racquet smasherGrin . Maybe winning this will make her mature a bit.

I love Delpo as well - he seems like a genuinely nice guy. I hope that I manage to watch the match - I think it's scheduled for 10.30pm tomorrow night - if it's a five setter not sure if I'll be able to stay awake.

I do think that whoever wins that semi will probably go on to win the whole thing but who knows.

I think I still want Rafa to win though.

Raahh · 08/09/2017 09:02

Well, I got it really wrong with the women.Grin At a push, I will go wih Sloane for the winner now, I think she has come back from injury, and this is a massive leap for her.

At least someone I like will go through for the men. And I quite like Carreno-Busta, though I've nothing against Anderson Grin.

OP posts:
QuiQuaiQuod · 08/09/2017 12:37

Delpo and Carreno for the final please. and either one to win. (although I like Anderson too).

good ladies final this year.

dont like Coco and her bratty behaviour, shame as I love Pat Cash.

Raahh · 08/09/2017 13:38

It's frustrating that Rafa'a match is the 3rd match on- not scheduled to be on until 10.30 at the earliest. But I will try to stay awake Grin

So Vamos to, well, both of them Grin

It's a shame Feliciano and Marc didn't win the doubles. I was really hoping they would.

OP posts:
Raahh · 08/09/2017 21:39

I've a feeling this match could go the distance.

I have had wine. I might not stay awake.

OP posts:
bookbook · 08/09/2017 22:40

Looks like they are settling in. Do you think they put these two on first, to maximise the advert revenue?

BagelGoesWalking · 08/09/2017 22:49

3rd set of the Stephens/Williams match was fantastic. Glad for Madison Keys as well, although I wasn't expecting Coco to crumble so completely.

I wish Rafa/DelPo was the final!

Fizzywinegum · 08/09/2017 23:00

Bagel I wish Rafa/Delpo was the final too. This match looks as if it might go the distance. Don't think I'll be able to stay up much longer.

Might try to record Rafa/Delpo and watch it tomorrow without finding out the score - not sure I can be that patient though.

Carreno Busta does look a bit like Dean Gaffney!

bookbook · 09/09/2017 09:09

well, I have seen the result , but won't say anything in case Fizzy comes on here before watching :)

Raahh · 09/09/2017 09:19

Well, I did manage to watch 2 sets of the Rafa match , before I fell asleepBlush.

I woke up at 4.30 with eurosport blasting the same advert over and over Grin.

I won't say who won yet Grin.

And I'm glad you think CB looks like Dean Gaffney, Fizzy Grin
