New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Evening all.

I fell asleep during the Delpo match, but was very, very happy to see he pulled through. Roger next though..

Bagel Why don't I like Frew? , well, I do think he's incredibly biased- especially where Federer or Murray matches are concerned. There are times when you would think they were playing by themselves, as he never credits their opponents. I remember watching a match where he never mentioned the other player once. I was yelling at the tvBlush.

I know he's not the only biased commentator, but , he irritates me when he's on.

Carreno-Busta is doing well against little Schwartzman.

Not sure what I feel about Fed's bottom rubbing experiences.

It was on the BBC website - apparently it helped his back.

Just watched Shwartzman and Carreno - Busta match. I don't think I've seen either of them before - I think I need to get out of my usual tennis rut and have a look at the up and coming players.

Will be sad when this era does end though as I really do think we've been spoilt with the level of play from Rafa, Roger etc.

Raahh · 05/09/2017 19:54

I don't think there will be a rivalry like theirs again, Fizzy, I mean , i'm sure there will be multiple slam winners etc, but I don't think any will be remembered like Rafa and Roger.

Some of the new ones show real talent- it's whether they sustain it, or never reach their full potential- like Nishikori/Dimitrov. They have age on their side, but I think the break-out slam winner in the future will be someone else, Zverev possibly.

Of course, there could be a a new name this week, if someone from he bottom half goes all the way.

Missed all the action ( well , via keeping up on BBC website)
I agree - I will be surprised if the newbies can do as well - I think there s so much more tennis played, and therefore more chance of injuries and burn out

Fizzywinegum · 05/09/2017 20:14

Yes Raahh I do think Roger and Rafa's rivalry will be remembered for a long time.

I've been impressed by Thiem but as you say a lot do show promise but then don't fulfil their potential.

Will have a look out for Zverev - are there 2 of them or am I getting confused?

Incidentally there are 2 tennis films coming out soon - one about the McEnroe/Borg rivalry and the other about the Billie Jean/Bobby Riggs(?) match - could be interesting (although I think Shia la bouef is in the Borg/mac film so who knows)

Raahh · 05/09/2017 20:19

There are two, fizzy, Sascha who is the young one, and currently heading for the top 5, and Mischa who is about 8 /9 years older (and beat Murray in Australia).

Zverev the younger has had a very good year, but not so much in the slams.

Aaah I see - thanks for the explanation Smile

magimedi · 05/09/2017 21:29

I have just realised that I am going away this weekend & will be somewhere with Sky TV. Smile

Can anyone tell me what time (UK time) the mens' finals will be on on Sunday (assume it's Sunday)

Raahh · 05/09/2017 21:37

Magi hello!! I think it is on Sunday, (though I'm sure it has been on Monday before) and it starts , by my reckoning, at 9pm (UK time)- 4pm in NY

magimedi · 05/09/2017 21:45

Flowers Raahh - am v excited about seeing it!

Will it be Delpo?? Please Lord............ I've been so good , give me that!! Grin

bookbook · 05/09/2017 21:47

magi - lucky you !

magimedi · 05/09/2017 21:51

book - I am most excited!

Raahh · 06/09/2017 08:31

If it isn't Rafa, then Del would be amazing Grin. He deserves another slam- I think he would definitely have spoilt the party for Rafa/Roger/Novak in terms of slams won, had he not been injured.

Raahh · 06/09/2017 11:04

Delpo has been suffering with flu, apparently. I hope he is feeling better today. A win over Fed would be a great cure Grin

I've just read that Murray is 'most likely' to miss the rest of he season- he's already confirmed he won't play in Beijing and Shanghai, and will probably miss Vienna and Rome.

It's probably for the best. Concentrate on proper recovery, and the new baby

Not great for his fans- I know only too well what it's like waiting for a player to come back from injury. It makes a change that it's not RafaGrin.

very cute picture of how Rublev used to dress like Rafa when he was young. And now he's playing him Grin

Ok hopefully I've got my timings right this time. Just got to drop DS2 off at footy training and then I'm hopefully going to watch Rafa/Rublev match.

Will be interesting to watch Rublev (and his hair!) - hope it's a good match but want Rafa to go through. Would love to watch Federer/Delpo match but don't think I'll be able to stay up that late - would be fab if Delpotro did go through.

Fizzywinegum · 06/09/2017 17:56

Cute pictures Raahh - I think that's my favourite Rafa period with his longish hair and sleeveless t-shirts and muscles (calm down!) but I like him now as well Smile

Raahh · 06/09/2017 17:57

YY Fizzy I liked the sleeveless top too Grin

Raahh · 06/09/2017 19:31

Rafa will not be happy playing under the roof.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 06/09/2017 19:36

No he won't - he seemed to take even longer to sort out his bottles and towels etc - felt a bit sorry for Rublev waiting at the net.

Can't believe how young and skinny Rublev looks - Rafa looks almost bulky at the side of him.

Hope that he won't be overwhelmed by the occasion

Fizzywinegum · 06/09/2017 19:40

Ok so maybe he's not overwhelmed!

Raahh · 06/09/2017 19:50

Well, I had to take dd2 to bed, and Rafa is off to a flying start.
