New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Our commentators were starting to wrap it up a few minutes ago - it's wide open again!

Raahh · 28/01/2018 10:58

saffron that doesn't surprise me. They had handed Fed the title her, probably before the tournament before the match started. Grin

Fantastic game this- it will be a shame if Marin doesn't win it. He will rue his missed chances.

Please don't mess up
Though I've a feeling we will see Roger employ possibly an injury break next set to delay things ...Wink

5th set!!

COME ON MARIN!!

I hope the crowd get behind Cilic now.
And what a surprise. Fed has left the building.

Roger is a bit rattled, i think.

I think he thought he would already have his mitts on the trophy and be halfway to a party by now.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2018 11:21

Some of the calls have been poor- and playing straight into Roger's hands.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2018 11:27

Right.

Do something Marin!!

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2018 11:29

Roger isn't going to rush this. He knows he can win without exerting himself in Marin's service game.

Mum2OneTeen · 28/01/2018 11:32

Come on Roger!

Raahh · 28/01/2018 11:34

Come on Marin, don't let it go without a fight!

Yay Roger! Smile

(watching on my DDs laptop 'cos television reception went off just at the startAngry... thankfully wifi has only gone off a few times during the match)

Sad
Raahh · 28/01/2018 11:44

mum I sympathise, I had problems earlier in the week when my tv kept going because of a problem with Virgin. it was really annoying.

I'm glad it went to 5 sets in the end.

Whoop!

Well played Roger, fantastic achievement. The first man ever to get to 20 grand slam titles.

What a pity this thread is such a thinly (barely) disguised vehicle for Nadal fans to pour their bile.

Some revolting comments on here. From the draw, to the weather, to the court allocation... One would almost believe that Fed couldn't play tennis, and has won those 20 majors by relying on a combination of weather Gods and score board manipulators!

As for insinuating that Fed employs 'injury' break tactics, how you can say that with a straight face as a supporter of one of the most persistent cheats the sport has ever known....

One last thought... Get some sleeves, Nadal. No one wants to see your sweaty armpits. 😀

Hang on, what now? If you’re talking about Nadal, which I infer you are from the rest of your post, can you provide the evidence to support that, please? Because last November, Nadal won a defamation case against the ex-French minister of health and sports when she accused him of doping, so I hope your lawyers are better than hers were.

OneInAMillionYou · 28/01/2018 15:01

My cheating refers to his constant time violations. In every match he takes longer than the regulations permit. That is cheating.

OneInAMillionYou · 28/01/2018 15:01

Hilarious escalation though. Why on earth did your mind leap to drugs?

ladymelbourne1926 · 28/01/2018 15:09

Wish that 5th set had been closer, think both players had earned a better final set than that.
Very interested to see how the next few months pan out, with so many younger players playing well and now they have a few months of shorter matches in more temperate conditions.

Also Just a reminder to anyone who goes to the O2 ATP, priority tickets for anyone whose got an account go on sale tomorrow morning.

Blimey.

I had to go out for a bit.

Well, for clarity- my own feeling regarding Roger and his injury timeouts come from last year- and he freely admits to his own tactics, here- (specifically the bit about the Wawrinka match ).

here
Personally, I think going off court just for a massage, not an injury, at a crucial point in a match, is cheating.

Anyway, another slam over. Not a vintage one. Even during the men's final, the commentators kept referring to the women's matches as the more interesting this yearGrin. And it's ages now til I can 'watch' any tennis 'live'(I don't have SKy, Euro sport is a bit sporadic on Virgin).

Will be interesting to see which of the injured will come back. There is quite a list now!

And yes, lady there are some good young players who are stepping up. They just need to make the jump up. And players like Zverev and Thiem need to better in majors.

My last ramble on the Aussie open subject for now- they really do need to be consistent with the heat policies.

Both Simona and Caroline looked like they were melting yesterday, yet it was ages before any decisions were made with regards to the heat.

I know it's not something that Wimbledon has to worry about too often Grin

I totally agree with the inconsistency of the application of the heat policy.
I remember several matches this year where I genuinely feared players health would be damaged. Particularly Monfils/Djokovic and one of Edmund's matches.
They need to revisit the policy so that courts with a roof could be used to the max. Having sat and watched in those temperatures it is utterly beyond me how athletes can compete for 4/5 hours in it.

Poor Simona ended up in hospital last night with dehydration, that is not a good look for the tournament.
