New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Get some sleeves, Nadal. No one wants to see your sweaty armpits

Well personally I have no objection Grin

One I hadn't heard that about Simona, but I'm not surprised. I don't think she could have kept up with her fluid intake , to counteract the heat yesterday. At one point, Caroline looked so flushed , but in an ill way, not an exhausted way. Simona was the one who looked like she had more in the tank by the end , too Sad.

I don't know what I'm going to do in the morning now. It's been a great distraction from real life, the tennis, at the moment. And it's aaaaages until I can watch anymore Sad.

I'll have to do something useful Grin

I know what you mean. I've been living on Australian time for a fortnight, I've forgotten how to sleep like a normal person! 😴

JaneJeffer · 28/01/2018 19:25

I didn't get to see much of it and missed both finals but I'm happy for Caroline and I hope Simona will be ok. It's a pity Cilic didn't win but Roger must be delighted. I think he's made of titanium or something.

Raahh · 28/01/2018 19:26

Jane

Grin

Andy approved of Rafa's sleeveless look, in twitter Q and A the other week. And Roger said the other, he wouldn't wear them himself, because his arms just can't compare to Nadal's. But then, not many can Grin

Back to Murray- there still doesn't seem to be news on the name name of his new daughter (which is fair enough, no bugger else's business Grin) but I'm nosy. Grin. Edith was a fore runner , apparently. Which will be funny if it is, because the head teacher at my daughter's school had her baby the same weekend- called Edith Grin

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 28/01/2018 19:30

Yes I heard Roger saying that. He also said Rafa should bring back the Capri length shorts which I simply cannot condone. Short shorts FTW Grin

Congrats to the Murrays. I missed the baby news. Edith is a nice name.

Raahh · 28/01/2018 19:34

Yes the baby was born the first week of November.

I keep seeing pics of Serena's baby- who is totally gorgeous.

And of course, Djok's baby was born at the beginning of September- Tara.

All 3 of them could get together Grin.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 28/01/2018 19:36

Oh Tara is very Irish. I wonder why they chose that? Maybe Djok loves Gone with the Wind?

BagelGoesWalking · 28/01/2018 19:44

Serena's baby is absolutely gorgeous and I'm not one to go gooey over babies.

Poor Simona - to end up in hospital. She must hate it that she couldn't play to the best of her abilities. And it was still a great match. Scandalous that she doesn't have any clothing contracts, she's such a fantastic player.

Women's matches were certainly a lot better than many of the men's, yet again.

Raahh · 28/01/2018 19:44

I don't know. They actually name Stefan, after Edberg, apparently, but I'm not sure about Tara.

OP posts:
Raahh · 28/01/2018 19:51

Bagel it's not often I watch the women, but i have watched some great matches this year.

Ahh ,well. Back to normal. And at least the dog will get walked properly before lunchtime Grin.

It's good thing the tennis finished this weekend- the last couple of morning have been crap and busy. Sad. I could use the distraction.

Roll on Acapulco! (even though I don't think I will be able to 'watch' it Grin) Will be interesting to see if Roger will stick to his scaled down schedule , or enter Dubai this year.
A few tournaments coming up- Sofia, then Rio/Rotterdam/Buenos Aires.
I suppose I will soon be able to fill the void with the winter Olympics . Grin, which I can watch Grin

I'm going to Montpellier next week for a few days. It's only a 250 but the confirmed field is good, Goffin, Tsonga, Gasquet, Pouille and some of the next gen. That will help with the withdrawal symptoms!

JaneJeffer · 31/01/2018 23:45

Oh lucky you One! I'd love to get away from this horrible cold, windy, wet weather. Enjoy!

OneInAMillionYou · 01/02/2018 00:38

Thank you Jane
I know how fortunate I am, some friends have moved to nr Carcassone and this is our first time visiting, luckily they love tennis as well.
I think we will definitely go to the tournament two days at least.

Will check the draw when we get there. 🎾😀

Raahh · 01/02/2018 08:49

One oh, enjoy! I forgot about that one! Did Zverev win that one last year? I remember 'watching ' the semi final scores with him and Tsonga.

I've just got in form walking the dog, and my fingers are like ice. I'm taking him to the groomer. I book regular appointments , because the groomer gets booked up quickly- I didn't really factor in the weather when I did this one, so I hope she doesn't scalp him Grin.

makes plans to buy him a coat

OneInAMillionYou · 01/02/2018 23:22

Oh, I would have to check last year's result. I don't think he is playing this year.

What type of dog do you have, Raahh?

Raahh · 02/02/2018 14:53

He is a miniature schnauzer, one and has a lucky escape yesterday, because the groomer was ill Grin
I've given him til next month - he will be a bit fluffy then, but at least he won't be cold.

Sat waiting to pick up a dress I am having altered, and they are showing the Davis cup gb/Spain match. I don't think Gb are going to be winning the Davis cup again anytime soon ( since it was pretty much a single handed effort by Murray last time anyway).

Even without the likes of Rafa, Spain have far more top than gb- by a big margin.

Well done Cameron Norrie. What a debut!

hugoagogo · 02/02/2018 17:55

That was an amazing match Grin

Raahh · 02/02/2018 18:15

Oh, I'm glad he pulled through. I had to leave the lovely tv in the alterations shop, and spend several hours driving around various off spring Grin

Cameron seemed very nice when he was interviewed at Queen's. He's a bit of a mixture, nationality/upbringing wise- Scottish/Welsh parents, born in South Africa, grew up in New Zealand Grin

i do love the scenery in Marbella( and most of the Spanish tournaments, actually). Much better weather than cloudy Manchester Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 02/02/2018 18:17

More importantly, did the Beeb keep showing the match,? or did they take it off (as threatened at about 3pm) Grin

OP posts:
kazzaD66 · 02/02/2018 18:23

Hi. Just seen this thread. The match went on to the red button at 3pm. It was bloody fantastic, some really great tennis. Never seen so much net play, volleys and drop shots on a clay court. Norrie was fabulous, both mentally and physically. Well done him, great stuff! Andy and Kyle who?!Grin

Raahh · 02/02/2018 18:31

Well, it looked like he clearly warmed up to playing on clay, then- which is not a surface that traditionally Brits do well on, so that's good. Well done Cameron. Bodes well for him later in the year.

He will hopefully break the top 100 soon, which will improve his chances getting into other tournaments, too.
