New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

hugo Sad

I know what you mean. I'm really hoping Cilic can put up a decent fight.
I bet Rog has already had the '20' monogram sewn on his cardigan

I can't bear it. Go on Cilic. Please.
The women's final might be worth a watch in the morning. I reckon Halep is stronger. But apparently Wozniacki has 4-2 in their head to head.

Raahh · 26/01/2018 21:52

I'm a big fan of Halep. Though i do like Caroline too, I think she's just very inconsistent. Neither have ever won a slam (although Halep is the current number 1 and Wozniacki has been before- but that seems to happen a lot in the women's game and not the men's ). In the men's it's more common to win slams , and not make it to number 1.

I can't say how much I want Roger to lose. He's been handed this one on a plate. No-one will say that of course, though a lot of Fed fans said it about Rafa's win at the US open.

It can't be any more boring on Sunday than the two Djok/Murray finals before last year , though. They were very dull. But I didn't want either to winGrin. At least I like Marin!.

I do like Halep a lot but also Wozniaki. Halep does seem to have a problem with finishing off a match, which worries me.

MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 09:19

Halep looks stronger for the tie break

MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 09:26

First set Woz. Shows what I know. Is anyone else watching?

Raahh · 27/01/2018 09:35

I've been trying to watch, but my family keep getting in the way!. I really thought Halep had the first set too. She does have a habit of doing this is crucial matches. It does her no good, mentally, afterwards either. It takes her ages to get over a big loss.

OP posts:
Raahh · 27/01/2018 09:53

I hope she's o.k. It's very hot out there.

And yes, what's the point of taking the blood pressure?? Grin

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 10:28

I want them both to win Confused

MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 10:38

It feels like Wozniacki has been plugging away for a long time and would love to win a grand slam. It would be the pinnacle for her and I don't think she is likely to win many more.
And Halep I think is a stronger more aggressive player and would be a deserved champion.
So firmly on the fence for who I want to win. I still think Halep will do it.

Raahh · 27/01/2018 10:50

Majestic I know esxactly what you mean! Caroline has been on the cusp so many times- and then never really got there. Then she sort of disappeared completely for a while. But i love the way Halep plays. She's had her chances in slams, and just seems to lose her way.

So, yes. I'm on the fence too, and would love to see either win. But am slightly in favour of Halep.

it could go either way.

And I have so much to do today, and need to be going out really Grin.

I should have gone to watch DD1 in her football match ( but it's raining, and dh is the manager, and they won't miss me really, and dd2 really is not any frame of mind to stand out in the coldGrin).

Raahh · 27/01/2018 10:58

I don't watch many women;s matches, but these are the ones I like. They are pretty evenly matched , I think in some ways. And so many breaks of serve. It's very back and forth now.

I wonder how Rogbot will cope if it's this hot tomorrow? They will probably change all the rules, just for him.

I swear, if he's losing, and goes off for a very lengthy 'injury timeout' like he did in last year's final , I will get very cross. Pat Cash called it 'legal cheating'.

Why is Jo moaning about Halep's noise? Sharapova makes far more noise. And it's constant- when there is no exertion whatsoever.

Is the roof closed? I'm not sure if they did when the players went off.
I know at Wimbledon, despite the fact closing the roof would make all the difference sometimes, they waffle on about keeping it 'an out door tournament', but surely here, if closing the roof would make things more comfortable for the players, then they should.

Caroline looks so very hot. Sad

And this is where nerves usually get the better of Simone...

OP posts:
Raahh · 27/01/2018 11:15

If Simone loses from that position, it will have happened to her so many times now Sad

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 11:22

Oo this is so tight

Raahh · 27/01/2018 11:24

oh my goodness.

I feel for Halep right now.

I think she had the match a couple of games back.

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 11:24

Incredibly fight there from Woza. Match point

EEandEmakes3 · 27/01/2018 11:24

It's too close, can't watch.

Raahh · 27/01/2018 11:25

But well done to Caroline. I hope this doesn't affect Simone too much, but I suspect it might. Sad

OP posts:
MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 11:25

Very happy for Wozniacki. Awful for anyone to lose that match. It was so close.

MajesticWhine · 27/01/2018 11:28

She defends so well and comes back to win points you would never imagine she could.

Raahh · 27/01/2018 17:27

Managed to see some of the Chung /Federer match from yesterday.

Saw the creepy insecty grasshopper thing that was watching from the sidelines [grins]

And poor Chung- maybe Federer has special blister position that he wishes on his opponents, do you think? Definitely the right thing to stop when he did, he could barely move. But far too convenient for Federer.

OP posts:
Saffronwblue · 27/01/2018 20:22

That was such an exciting women's final. I wanted them both to win.
It is going to be another scorcher in Melbourne today.

Fizzywinegum · 28/01/2018 08:51

Was at work at the end of the week so not been able to watch any tennis but been keeping up with the scores.

The women’s final looked like a good match.

Federer is running away with the first set. I don’t actually mind Federer but he has had an easy ride this tournament. Just hoping for a good match and no blisters!
