New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

I am having a rubbish 24 hours. For a variety of non-tennis reasons. So, even though I am not a Berdych fan, I would love to see Roger lose this Grin. It would really cheer me up Grin

And Berdy did have Goran in his camp, not sure about now. I love Goran ..

But it's early days, so can't get too excited Grin

I won't be able to watch much beyond the next hour though.

Of course, the commentators are so pro Roger. It's like Berdych is spoiling the party by getting any points at all.

Sorry you're having a bad time Raahh. I too would be cheered by Fed losing. I can't watch due to pesky work but will be glancing at the scores. Here's hoping.

ladymelbourne1926 · 24/01/2018 09:00

Sorry to hear that Raahh, hope things improve.
Would love to see roger lose here, am not really a berdych fan but needs must Grin
Was relieved to see on fb Rafa posting his knee is nothing serious, he hopes to be back in 4 weeks and shouldn't miss anything.

Raahh · 24/01/2018 09:26

Thanks all.

I have everything crossed for Berdych.

It is probably misplaced hope. But anything can happen. He has played some good shots. And is getting little credit.

Do they think the tournament will collapse without him?

Funnily enough, Roland Garros manages bums on seats just fine when he isn't there/regularly fails to make the latter rounds Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/01/2018 09:26

Collapse without Federer, that is.

OP posts:
Raahh · 24/01/2018 09:29

And I hate the way they call it a breaker. Its's tie- break!

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 24/01/2018 10:02

Aaah I'm trying to watch but the telly keeps freezing. Come on Tomas!

ladymelbourne1926 · 24/01/2018 10:10

Oh come on berdych at least take a set!
This commentary is driving me crazy, I've muted it.

Raahh · 24/01/2018 10:12

I'm sat at the doctors now. I'll be gutted if he doesn't at least get a set. He was so close in the first.

The biased ' only one player on court ' commentary is really annoying.

OP posts:
JaneJeffer · 24/01/2018 10:30

Hope you're ok Raahh.

It's a long way back for Berdych now.

There's too many ad breaks on this channel!

JaneJeffer · 24/01/2018 10:54

Well that's that.

We have deafening hailstone showers here today. Drowns out the commentary nicely Grin

JaneJeffer · 24/01/2018 10:57

So Roger is responsible for the pink outfits!

Raahh · 24/01/2018 11:12

I heard that, Jane Hmm

Is there anything that isn't down to Roger.? They are already crediting him with being the only one (apparently) -apart from Kyrgios -who can fill seats. Hmm Which is utter rubbish.

I am pinning my hopes on Chung being the total outsider, with nothing to lose, and taking all his chances.

it would be brilliant. Chung would be my new favourite young player Grin

hugoagogo · 24/01/2018 19:11

I would love a Chung v Edmund final wouldn't that shake things up? Roger is so boring.

Raahh · 24/01/2018 20:17

hugo it would be great.

I am so cross that Berdych didn't even get a set off him.

I have never been a fan of Roger- I loved his rivalry with Rafa (obviously) but I only really started to find him ok, when chinks started to show in his armour. I liked it when Edberg was coaching him- just for the odd glimpse of Stefan. For a few years he seemed human.Grin But I hate how sycophantic the commentators are.

Even my mother- who is a Roger fan- rang me during the match today and said she got fed up listening to how one sided it was, and was going out! Shock.

So- what ever 'Come on!' is in Korean, we need to learn it now Grin

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 24/01/2018 21:44

It may just happen too, because I am out all day Sunday and won't be able to see any of it.Grin

Raahh · 25/01/2018 09:45

Cilic is not really giving Kyle much to go on.

He has to prove he deserves to be in the semi, I suppose. It's difficult when you 'beat' an opponent who retires injured.
Kyle had a bit of row with the umpire over a perceived dodgy line call. it fired him up a little.

And i hate the spectators coming in late. The penalise the players for taking too long between points. . Yest expect theplayers to wait for spectators to take their seats. Hmm. They shouldn't be allowed back to their seats if they are late back.

Should be like the theatre- if your beer and burgers matter more than match- come back at the next set Grin. And they should be named and shamed.

Because I'm mean.

Hello everyone. I've been listening to the tennis in five live but is it on the tv anywhere please? Have to nip to the shop and hope it's not all over by the time I'm back!

Raahh · 25/01/2018 10:01

I've got Virgin,k so i'm watching on that (Euro sport ), but it's not on 'proper' tv. At least I don't think so- (can't find the remote to turn over Grin).

OP posts:
Raahh · 25/01/2018 10:55

Well, looks like this will be wrapped up soon.
Cilic has played well. Kyle has had his moments, but he was a bit moany in the second set.

He's got a lot to be proud of this tournament though.

Match point.

OP posts:
Raahh · 25/01/2018 10:56

And there we have it.

OP posts:
Raahh · 25/01/2018 10:58

Well, if Chung doesn't manage it tomorrow- I hope Cilic can get revenge for Wimbledon on Sunday.

He has longer to recover, and was playing well today.

OP posts:
Raahh · 26/01/2018 08:55

I'm missing the beginning of the match but come on Chung! I hope he gets a set at least!

OP posts:
Raahh · 26/01/2018 12:10
Sad

My meeting this morning went on for ages, and I noticed Chung had retired whilst i was in the middle of it, but didn't get chance to find out why.

How lucky is Federer??

Even if he was always going to win, I wish he'd had to play a whole match to do it.

I hope Marin has will take extra precautions, and make sure he doesn't get blisters on Sunday- not new shoes!!
