New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Grigor is playing better than he has all week- he doesn't like being the under dog- and he'd be very riled if he heard how bloody biased the commentary is.

There are two players on the court, ffs. It's like listening to a Federer, or Murray match.
I usually like Mats. It's pissing me off.

Watched some of Australian Open for first time this morning. Wanted Rafa’s match to be on a bit later but managed to see final set - looked like a good match.
I’m liking the return of Rafa’s sleeveless look Smile. He looked huge, like a giant at the side of Shwartzman at the end of the match! He is only 5 foot 7 though.
Pleased for Kyle - hope he can keep it going.
Just keeping an eye on kyrgios and dimtrov match - hope that dimitrov wins this one.

Raahh · 21/01/2018 11:15

I know he's the home player and every thing , but even so. (sorry I'm avoiding the ironing , so rantingGrin)

Heading for a repeat of last year's Rafa/Grigor semi in theory . Unless Kyle can pull off one of the wins of his career.

They are discussing the foot fault. Edberg was always getting foot faults. He had service action that was very close to line. I loved Stefan. I may have mentioned it. Grin

Raahh · 21/01/2018 11:20

Yes, Diego is only short (relatively, for a tennis player{grin]). He's my second favourite Argentinian. Though the difference between him and Del po is over a footGrin.

They are getting very obsessed by the foot fault now.

Get over it!

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 11:27

(Schwartzman is nearly a foot taller than me- I'm only 4ft 8)

Grin

I'm not getting very much done.
Come on Grigor!!

It’s snowing here so I may as well sit on the settee and watch tennis Grin
Really dislike kyrgios - he’s so spoilt and brattish - I don’t think I’ve ever seen him play particularly well either.
Is there a reason why all the male players are wearing mainly pink?

Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:09

Fizzy it's Nike thing. Last year, NIke had that awful zebra print thing, irrc. A lot of other sponsors are wearing bright colours too.

Djok's sponsor failed to get the memoGrin . He was all in black. Can't imagine Murray in pink, though.Grin

I loathe Kyrgios. And no amount of pr and spin will make me feel any different. They keep pushing the 'he's still young' h'es so entertaining'. Well, I don't find swearing and smashing rackets entertaining (when anyone does it- including Roger Grin, who was still at last year in Basel), and he's no longer a child- he'a an adult.

I wish he would just disappear.

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:11

He's just do disrespectful. It gets on my nerves.

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:12

I feel sorry for Dimitrov playing against it. It's not wonder he get's in trouble for 'tanking' so often.

And there he is- swearing again. Angry

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:15

He should have had a warning there at least. What is going on?? Why are they so scared of him?

But in the discussion after, they will defend him to the hilt. Because he's young, and great for the game, because he's so entertaining etc Angry

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:19

This is so unfair. Kyrgios gets to swear his head off and distract his opponent, and now Grigor could throw the set away.

So wrong.

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 21/01/2018 12:22

Grrr I really don’t like watching kyrgios - he should have definitely had several warnings for all the f words - he’s vile!
It does show utter disrespect to his opppnents - can’t believe people still defend him although the commentators today don’t seem impressed.
Really hope dimitrov wins.
No Raahh I cant imagine Andy Murray in pink Grin - although not really sure it suits Kyle Edmunds colouring either.

Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:25

I don't get why they are still defending him. They heard the swearing.

And no- the pink doesn't suit Kyle Grin .

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:29

I'm glad Sam Smith is there- at least she is acknowledging that Grigor is playing too!

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:34

Come on Grigor!

yay!!Grin

Now he plays Kyle.

But I hope Rafa gets to play his next match in the evening !!

OP posts:
Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:36

His 'way' is rude, disrespectful and he should have lost before the tie break , due to defaults

Oh, it was Jo, not SamGrin

OP posts:
Fizzywinegum · 21/01/2018 12:38

Yes! Well done Grigor - think he was very generous towards Kyrgios - glad to see the back of him.

Raahh · 21/01/2018 12:43

Fizzy yes, he was very nice at the end. When the commentators were saying they wondered what Grigor said to NIck at the end, I thought he probably said 'Get lost, you little oik'

Or something similar, in Bulgarian. Whilst smiling.

hugoagogo · 21/01/2018 12:51

My money's on " you'll have your chance mate, it was a great match" something gracious like that.
Dimitrov is so cute Blush

Raahh · 21/01/2018 13:32

I like Grigor. But he's been a bit shaky so far. Possibly the curse of finally last year winning a couple of big tournaments. A lot more is expected then.

Probably won't get to see any tomorrow morning- busy morning of doctor/ hospital appointments which will take up too much time.

Roger hasn't been put on in the evening, which is a shock! Though he is now still on Rod Laver... But it's only fair. It's hardly the match of the day
That honour has to go to the Djok/ Chung match. I think Chung could have a real chance. He is very good. And of course won the next gen tournament- and beat Sacha Zverev in the last round ( who qualified for the next gen tournament, but played in the main tour finals instead).

It should be a good match.

What is going on with Djokovic?

Raahh · 22/01/2018 09:06

Not surprised by Roger's win, but at least it wasn't a total washout. And Marton kept him out there for nearly 2 hours in the heat.Grin

Unlikely to get to see anything much today. Lots of appointments and boring stuff to do.

Thiem not having it his own way against Tennys Sangren.

and as expected , a close start for Chung and Djok.

OP posts:
Raahh · 22/01/2018 09:10

I was expecting this to be close ( will only get to see about an hour of it) .

He's not played much, and I think Novak struggles a lot more mentally than Roger does, when he has been out of action . But in a way , I want him to pull it together, because Fed's half is looking far too easy for my liking. He needs to at least have to face Novak to get to the final. Even a less than 100% Novak.

OP posts:
Raahh · 22/01/2018 09:21

Flicking between the two, amazing shot by Dom Thiem.

I wish Mac would learn to pronounce Djokovic.

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 22/01/2018 09:25

I can only watch the numbers on the screenSad but they tell me Chung just nicked the first set.Shock
