New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Djok has blisters. We know what blisters did to Cilic at Wimbledon.

OP posts:
hugoagogo · 22/01/2018 09:27

Ooh blisters are nasty.

Raahh · 22/01/2018 09:28

Djok appears to be falling to bits,

He has a dodgy elbow, shoulder, blisters.

it's almost like Roger has a whole new robot body, and Djok has been left with the faulty bits Grin

(he's just had a very tight tubigrip thing put on his arm/elbow0.

Oh, and his groin is causing him problems too, according to Mac. He was getting treatment for that the other day.

Chung has taken control in this set...

Nice to see Stepanek in Novak's team. I've alway's liked Radek.

I think Chung, since, he has nothing to lose, could even have a chance against Roger. (But I'm getting ahead of myself Grin).

Has Stepanek retired then? I missed that.

Raahh · 22/01/2018 10:07

Yes, last year.

Grrr. Now I have to go out. Just as it is all getting good.

Just got in from yoga Halo to see that djok is in trouble - sad to hear that Thiem is out - will hopefully get to see end of djok match. He does seem to be falling apart.

Looking forward to tomorrow - Rafa is on late so I should be able to watch all of it. Would like to see dimitrov and Kyle but think that’s on before Rafa’s match.

Fizzywinegum · 22/01/2018 11:18

Wow Djokovic now serving to stay in the match - he looks completely exhausted. Even if he does manage to win this set I can’t see him playing another 2 sets to win the match.

I’ve never seen Chung before - he looks like a very unlikely tennis player but is playing really well.

Fizzywinegum · 22/01/2018 11:24

Got ahead of myself then - I do understand tennis scoring really Blush

Chung now serving for the match

Fizzywinegum · 22/01/2018 11:25

Ignore me - djok now serving - sorry! Blush

hugoagogo · 22/01/2018 11:39

What just happened?Shock

Fizzywinegum · 22/01/2018 11:44

Ok so Chung has definitely won - he seems completely overwhelmed - wow!

Raahh · 22/01/2018 12:49

Just got back- I'm not actually at all surprised by the result. Djok is clearly not in a good place- but Chung is definitely a rising star ,at the moment. I saw him early against Rafa, I think it was in Barcelona last year- and he played very well then.

He plays Sandgren next, so that really is going to be a battle- they both have it all to play for.

Looking forward to Rafa v Cilic- it ought to be straightforward for Rafa, he beat Marin twice last year, both on hard courts, and Marin hasn't beaten him for years. But Slams are funny beastsGrin. Rafa is looking fairly fit though.

Not sure about Kyle against Grigor- but he might have a chance. Grigor hasn't been totally convincing.(first two matches could easily have gone against him)- so Kyle could be in with a shot if he holds his nerve. That would be an amazing win.

Poor Novak, but loved Chung's intensity.

hugoagogo · 23/01/2018 06:39

Raahh · 23/01/2018 06:41

Brilliant result for Kyle.

But I will still be supporting Rafa in the semis if he gets there!Grin I know people seem to think it's compulsory to support the Brit, but I've never really understood that ( and it seems like it only happens when we have one who who wins things- Andrew Castle hardly had millions of adoring fansWinkGrin).

Raahh · 23/01/2018 06:49

Kyle will become the British number one by the end of February now, by my reckoning. I'm sure he wouldn't want it to be in these circumstances ( Murray's injury) but he is definitely working for it. His results over the last year have got better and better and better.

I hope He's been wearing good sun screen. Worried about his 'Boris' colouring. Grin

OP posts:
Raahh · 23/01/2018 06:54

I've got to admit though- if Kyle got to the final I would definitely want him to win it. Can you imagine? That would be one of the results of the last few years.

( and SPOTY would be in the bag Grin).

He has said that his Mum makes sure he does.Grin

Fizzywinegum · 23/01/2018 06:56

Yay well done Kyle - just woken up to the news - brilliant!

Rafa v Cilic coming up next I think.

I too will be backing Rafa if he gets to the semis but well done to Kyle.

Yes I hope he’s got the factor 50 on!

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 23/01/2018 07:29

I am still backing Rafa but v. impressed with Kyle!

What’s bizarre is that the old old guard - Rafa and Roger - are soldiering on, but the new old guard - Dimitrov and Kyrgios and so on - aren’t quite ever fulfilling their promise. So now a new new guard are stepping up to the plate - like Kyle and Chung.

I know what I mean Confused

MajesticWhine · 23/01/2018 07:32

Very happy to wake up to news of Kyle. Did anyone manage to see any of the match? Just how did he do it? Would love to watch some highlights.

Raahh · 23/01/2018 07:45

theonly I know what you mean.Grin

He's only 23 , Kyle. Always forget that he is. Grigor is already 26. And although players are starting to mature layer ( and Stan/ Cilic didn't win a slam til they were older) I think maybe we might be going back to when players did fulfil their potential early?

Winning a slam as a teen hasn't happened since Rafa though...
