New thread ,as we are very close to the end of the other.

I'm in denial that it is nearly September.

I am looking forward to Flushing Meadows. I feels like ages ages since I was able to 'watch' any tennis.

Hmm

Nice how they have totally written off Gasquet before a ball is struck. Come on Richard!Grin

Oo didn't realise it had started thanks I'll switch back. Gasquet is beautiful to watch.

Raahh · 20/01/2018 11:13

Much better second set so far from Gasquet . It would be amazing if he could pull off an upset here not much of a Roger fan.

I can dream...

They've just mentioned Roger skipping all of the clay season last year.
So much has been made of his 4 wins against Rafa last year (all on hard courts), that I would have loved to see what would have happened if they'd played on clay. I think it would have tipped the balance. But he knew what he was doing.

Roger hasn't beaten Rafa on clay since 2009.

Much as I don't like smuggy Fed he has managed his career and aging body extremely well.

Raahh · 20/01/2018 11:31

It's looking like the beginning of the end for Gasquet.

Majestic he really has in the last few years. He's been a lot luckier than other players, injury/age wise, though. His back problems came a lot later in his career ,than other players injuries have. Del Po, for example was really unlucky with his wrist, putting his out for so long.

Djok has been relatively lucky, when you consider in previous generations players had retired by 30.

Will be interesting to see if/how Murray comes back. I was thinking about it the other day. If he plans to return for WImbledon, he will be outside of the top 100 rankings. I know Wimbledon have their own quirky way of seeding players (they don't go purely off the rankings), but even with a protected ranking, would it be fair to seed him in the top 5 after nearly a year out?

But- if you were a top player- would you prefer Murray seeded, or a dangerous floater in the drawer (assuming he is fit)?

It's funny the things that go through your head when you are walking the dog in the freezing cold .Grin

draw- not drawer- stupid phone Grin

I don't think they can put him in a drawer Grin

And Roger through.

Murray looks a wreck even when he's well. I don't think he has he physical resilience to get back to the top but I hope he can.

Raahh · 20/01/2018 12:56

I've never been a Murray fan, but I do think it's sad when players are hit by injuries like this (and I've suffered enough with RafaGrin). I suppose it's whether he mentally wants to come back- and now he has his expanding family to consider, it might not seem so important?
One of the big things that makes Roger so secure in his own skin, is, off the court, he has so many other interests (he skis, he gets invited to Pippa Middleton's wedding, he's best mates with Anna Wintour). And his family is very important to him.

For Nadal, he's setting up his retirement with his academy, he's had his charity foundation for years.

Kyle is doing well. I like Kyle, he's very unassuming.

I keep seeing the ads for the Winter Olympics. I love the Winter Olympics. I get obsessed by curling- and the Norwegian team's trousers Grin

Dragged myself out of bed to watch a bit of Kyle. Yawn.

MajesticWhine · 21/01/2018 08:32

First grand slam quarter final for Kyle Edmund. Fantastic performance by him, he's hitting the ball beautifully.

ladymelbourne1926 · 21/01/2018 08:53

Morning :)
I like Kyle, he looked good today.
Rafa made me nervous for a few minutes there but think the test probably did him good.
Interested to see who the crowd will support in the dimitrov match.

MajesticWhine · 21/01/2018 09:02

Could be fascinating. I have no idea who is going to win this. Kyrgios playing well and seems mentally a bit better these days.

Saffronwblue · 21/01/2018 09:12

Before the match started Australian tv had a filler story showing Kyrgios getting his hair done and interviewing his barber. I watched in mesmerised horror.

MajesticWhine · 21/01/2018 09:24

If I was his mum I'd be telling him to stand up straight. He skulks around with his shoulders hunched.

hugoagogo · 21/01/2018 09:25

Brilliant news to get up and see Lovely Kylie through to the quartersGrinGrinStarStarTennisTennis

Raahh · 21/01/2018 09:59

Was up early enough to watch Rafa ( headache and cats screaming outsideAngry) but fell asleep. I like Diego, but am glad Rafa got through. He probably needed a bit of a match.

Well done to Kyle.
I'm hoping for a Grigor win. He hasn't been convincing so far this tournament though. I really don't want Kyrgios to win.

I though Kyrgios was gone there but he's back in it. Dimitrov favourite for the tiebreak imo.
