3EyedRaven I think the whole Faceless Men training in the show ended up being mostly about being whacked with sticks and very little about disguises and glamours and learning how to skinchange into cats.

I think both Arya and Sansa have been butchered by the show.

Rhinogirl Jon Snow came out of the icy lake wearing his thermally insulated plot-armour. He was rescued by Uncle Benjen who turned up in the nick of time and sent him on his horse to the wall. He rejoined Dany and crew and they're all off to King's Landing.

Night's King dragged Viserion out of the lake and resurrected him as an ice dragon. There are lots of clips on YouTube.

RhinoGirl · 17/08/2017 09:34

Thanks! Will be eagerly watching in HD in the early hours of Monday AM!

AryaUnderfoot · 17/08/2017 09:35

I do think a fair amount of 'Sansa hatred' stems from the fact that Sophie Turner goes on and on in interviews about what a 'badass' Sansa is turning into and how clever she is when the show character seems to be anything but.

The final nail in the coffin was at Comic-con last year when she said she would like to see Littlefinger on the iron throne...

3EyedRaven · 17/08/2017 09:35

I think both Arya and Sansa have been butchered by the show
I agree.

I do understand it's hard, as in the books you get full access to their inner thoughts, and you just can't get that level of insight into a character feom the screen.

But, yeah, their characters are both idiots at the moment.

Peabrain14 · 17/08/2017 09:37

I do feel this season has been rushed (but understand why they have done that) which is a shame. I don't want it to end.

Would you guys recommend the books?

RhinoGirl · 17/08/2017 09:37

Are all the links being taken down?

ElspethFlashman · 17/08/2017 09:40

I'd recommend the first three books definitely. After that......meh.

Anyone notice "I haven't heard from Jon for weeks"? FFS Jon, you're meant to be KITN, you wanna drop her a flipping line??!

Ijustwantaquietlife · 17/08/2017 09:42

I don't think you can blame the actress for the rubbish sansa that always disappoints. She's been written a dud part, but maybe that was on purpose so that finally she will do something now.

3EyedRaven · 17/08/2017 09:49

That's probably it. Keep expectations so low, so that when a character does something pretty average and that's to be expected of them, it gets perceived as being extraordinary.

DeadButDelicious · 17/08/2017 09:51

I was very worried we might lose Tormund for a second there. That is Not Allowed. I am firmly on the good ship Brienmund, they will let me have this.

Arya is being an arsehat.

Jon needs to step away from his Aunt. Yuck.

Peabrain14 · 17/08/2017 09:51

Ok will check out the first 3. Thanks

3EyedRaven · 17/08/2017 09:53

Sansa's original arc was going to be that she betrayed her family, married Joffrey and had his heir, and lived to bitterly regret it.
She was always going to be a let down, GRRM might have changed her storyline, but she was imagined a traitor, and you know, you can't polish a turd.
Jon was imagined as the King.

Ijustwantaquietlife · 17/08/2017 10:04

I thought we lost Turmund, it's so dark it's hard to tell what's happening unless you have a mega expensive organic TV!

Just hearing that the final season won't be here until 2019. Hopefully that means it won't be rushed like this one feels.

I almost wish I hadn't started watching so I could see it all in one summer with no waiting.

It's such fanfic I wouldn't be surprised if Danny has John's baby, bran is the knight king and responsible for the mad king. Then John has to kill both Danny and bran/kinght king in the final episode to bring peace.

AryaUnderfoot · 17/08/2017 10:09

Would you guys recommend the books?

I'd recommend them all apart from A Dance with Dragons, which is only worth reading for a handful of character POVs. I actually really enjoyed a Feat for Crows - it's one of my favourites.

I love reading Sansa's book chapters but it must be so hard to write for her on-screen as most of her interesting moments occur in her head. It doesn't help that some of her finest book moments have been totally omitted from the show. Putting her in the Jeyne Poole character may have been more interesting to watch, but has left her character development as an utter mess.

Khaleesisdragons · 17/08/2017 10:27

I haven't watched the leaked episode. Gutted reading about what happens in it though!! Is the dragon dead dead? Or just hurt like Drogon was? Can anyone tell me who else dies so I can prepare myself for the episode?!? The Hound, Tyrion? 😱😱

AryaUnderfoot · 17/08/2017 12:17

Khaleesisdragons the only other notable death is Thoros of Myr. There were some other 'random wildlings/Brotherhood' deaths but they were utterly predictable as they set out with fanboy favourite characters on a suicide mission. They were never going to live!

The fate of Uncle Benjen, aka Deus ex Machina is currently unknown. Last seen swinging a burning monringstar at 11 billion wights and without a horse as Jon Snow rode off.

QueenoftheAndals · 17/08/2017 12:46

Just hearing that the final season won't be here until 2019.

No, back in June Benioff and Weiss said "maybe" when they were asked if that would be the case. But nothing has been confirmed yet.

ElenaGreco123 · 17/08/2017 13:14

This article made me PMSL

Fight every battle everywhere, always, in your mind, indeed.

Middleoftheroad · 17/08/2017 13:22

I don't get why Benjen didn't get on horse with Jon - watched it twicw now but cant hear his reply.

christmasunicorn · 17/08/2017 13:46

Nice to see a character this season out of black. Danys winter coat was very nice.
Loved the chat between the men. Tormund and the hound had me laughing about brienne. Whatshisname and Jon about Jons unresemberlance to his father, must get his looks from his mum. Did I hear Jon as where he met his dad and thingy say when his hand sent me insert wherever he was sent. Didn't catch the whole dialogue). If I heard right (debatable) then whatshisname knows the Jon is not Ned starks and who his true parentage is.
Well done Gendry for being the only person to bring a hat.
My opinion of Arya is dropping, she sounded like a petulant child when speaking to Sansa

LunaMay · 17/08/2017 13:49

I liked Thoros :(

BeyondQueenOfLists · 17/08/2017 13:52

Haha, love it elena!!

Just looked at that video clip on freefolk Eleana. It really is a corking CGI fail. I can't believe people manage to notice things like that.

christmasunicorn the conversation between Beric and Jon was about when Ned Stark was Hand, back in season 1, and sent him to arrest Gregor Clegane who was raping/murdering in the Riverlands. He did say Jon didn't look like his father and must take after his mother. I can't think of any reason why Beric would know anything about Jon's parentage.

I was a bit disappointed that they didn't use the opportunity to put in a conversation about 'losing' parts of your personality during death/resurrection. It's as if the show has ignored this factor completely. Apart from the scars, Jon seems completely unchanged by his death.

christmasunicorn · 17/08/2017 14:04

But I'm sure the books talk about how Jon looks like his father, takes the stark genes, which would effectively be his mothers genes. I need to rewatch with English subtitles (I have no idea what language the subtitles I was watching was in)

Agree about why the fuck did benjen not get on the horse? I'm sure his reply was there's no time. There was always time. Fool. But then I guess they would have to explain where on earth he has been and what he has been doing for years

onceandneveragain · 17/08/2017 22:55

The time shifting is just ridiculous now - Gendry managed to run back to the wall, a raven then flew the whole length of the continent, then Dany read it, had an argument with Tyrion, then managed to fly all the way back - all while the suicide squad spent just one night standing in a cold circle! Surely it would have made more sense if they had given her a time frame and said if you haven't heard from us, send help.

I'm concerned that there's only one episode left this season and there are so many characters that started an arc and then haven't been seen for ages - Yara, Grey Worm, Bran, Theon - who turned up at Dragonstone two episodes ago to ask for Dany's help but still doesn't seem to have ever seen her!

I can see Dany's point about the succession - to be fair even if she appointed someone now they wouldn't have any control over her dragons which are her main source of power, nor would they have the personal loyalty of the unsullied or dothraki, so naming anyone would be a moot point. Her biggest drawback is that her entire support is basically a cult of personality centred on her alone rather than a wider, more enduring belief system like a religion, an area or a family.

She was very hypocritical though - " these silly boys being so stupid and self sacrificing trying to out do each other with brave deeds and not thinking of the consequences...now cheerio I'm just flying off alone to an icy wasteland hundreds of miles away to fight some ice zombies despite the fact thousands of people are solely dependant on me." Tyrion does not have an enviable job being her hand!

Agree with everyone who said a slight change in facial expression when (I think it's Viserion?) died wouldn't have gone amiss...

BTW if you rewatch you can see the third dragon - shortly after Viserion hits the ground, all the others are on Drogon, and Rhaegal is still up in the air and flies off.

Maisie Williams is usually good, but that whole monologue about the arrow shooting was like a particularly bad GCSE Drama practical. Just awful!
