Anyone else looking forward to this?
I like Jodie W since she was in Cranford, and this new 4 part series looks good, plus it has to be an improvement on the rubbish that was on last week in this slot.

Rubbish ending. But sets it up for a second series I suppose.

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 22:03

That is the best drama on telly for a long while.

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 22:04

"So there will be another series to come sometime...."

Hope so!

Mumof41987 · 29/08/2017 22:04

Crap ending

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 29/08/2017 22:50

I liked the ending!

NancyDonahue · 29/08/2017 22:51

Crap ending, although I was surprised I made it to the end. I was torn between hoping the real Alison Sutton would turn up, and wanting Cath to get away with it for the sake of poor fatherless Molly.

Really love JW (long drawn out open mouthed panic face scenes aside). Looking forward to seeing her in DW.

scrabbler3 · 29/08/2017 22:58

They've set up Series 2 nicely. The return of the real Dr Sutton? The revelation that Beardy Doc killed her ex? The reappearance of the junior doc with the bunches? The journalist friend doing some digging? The landlady finding out?

Blondeshavemorefun · 29/08/2017 23:30

What a crap ending 😡😡😡

I think mr beardy did kill her ex

Surely the real alison has to come back soon

Wanted it to end properly

MissEliza · 29/08/2017 23:33

I liked the ending. Not what I expected at all. I feel bad for her. She just wanted a better life for her daughter and her daughter's dad is dead as a direct result of her lies,

MissEliza · 29/08/2017 23:36

And what happened to beardy and his ex. A couple of times Brigitte alluded to what he'd 'been through' but never elaborated.
I love Josie Whittaker. Dd and I are looking forward to her in Dr Who.

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 23:48

MissEliza "her daughter's dad is dead as a direct result of her lies" How so? We don't know he killed him.

I find the idea hat he either killed the ex or even thought about it the least plausible part of this (I hope) implausible programme. But I love it!

NaughtyNannyPlum · 29/08/2017 23:49

Oh I liked the ending! I thought it would be predictable but actually surprised me!

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 23:50

MissEliza "And what happened to beardy and his ex. A couple of times Brigitte alluded to what he'd 'been through' but never elaborated." I know that is interesting. He was in phone contact with her, why not introduce his kids to her.

MissEliza · 29/08/2017 23:58

Italian I meant he wouldn't have been in Edinburgh and Molly wouldn't have walked out of beardy's house causing him to run across the road and be hit by the car. I really don't know if beardy killed Blake Harrison. It seems too obvious. That's why we need a second series!

Italiangreyhound · 30/08/2017 00:30

MissEliza well yes, I see what you mean. But it was her working there that brought him there, if he had been run over just visiting and she was working as a nurse, we would not say "as a direct result of her lies."

I think we defo need a second series.

I think it is a shame Blake is gone, it took me a few episodes to find out it was NEIL from The Inbetweeners!

Blondeshavemorefun · 30/08/2017 05:16

And ex said she hates lying and so did she when sharon small asked her to lie /cover up

But she was lying every day - or is that the irony to this programme?

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 30/08/2017 05:38

I really enjoyed the series despite thinking every 5 minutes "that's completely ridiculous" and "she could never get away with this in real life".

I also wondered what had happened to the ex and to his kids. And wasn't there also a hi t that Bridget had had some trauma? When Beard asked Bridget why she drank, she replied something like "you know why I drink" as though she was trying to get over some trauma.

I was convinced Cath/Alison would get her comeuppance at the end, not that she would be promoted. I too think it's been set up for a second series. I'm looking forward to that.

southeastdweller · 30/08/2017 07:52

I loved the unpredictable ending and was genuinely shocked when Karl was run down.

I think the writer set up the ending for a second series but I doubt it'll ever happen now as JW will be tied up doing Doctor Who for a few years.

blueandgreendots · 30/08/2017 08:00

I found the ending a bit meh. As soon as beardy Dr came in his house I noticed that he'd left the door open which I thought would be relevant and it turned out to be. I enjoyed the show but fear that a potential series 2 may make me suspend my disbelief a bit too far. I feel similarly wary about Doctor Foster series 2.

hmcAsWas · 30/08/2017 08:58

I wanted her to be found out. Not prepared to give her a free pass for impersonating a doctor - pretty heinous and unhinged thing to do....(I may be taking this too seriously Grin). I enjoyed the series though

StarHeartDiamond · 30/08/2017 09:20

If beardy didn't kill her ex, he at least admitted to going as far as drawing up the syringe which is 99% there. Of course he bumped him off. But Cath/Ali is attracted by the money and also her ego is getting bigger with all the flattery.

Some things I don't get - why did she tell ex she was impersonating a doctor? She didn't have to do that. Why did she take the rap for Brigette, knowing it will attract attention to her flimsy persona and possibly be the catalyst to get her thrown in prison (as if her mistakes and impersonation in itself weren't enough). Why did the other doctor pass away her mistake at not reading landlady's results sheet - ie important info on the back of the page - so lightly?

StarHeartDiamond · 30/08/2017 09:24

And much as I would hate to see it, (but seeing as it's only a fiction programme Smile) I kind of hoped for huge dramatic effect that her impersonation and lack of knowledge would come back to haunt her in the worst way possible - by her daughter getting taken ill and Cath/Ali making a dreadful glaring and avoidable (for a trained doctor) mistake on her treatment in the hospital.

StarHeartDiamond · 30/08/2017 09:32

Italian - I would agree he died as a direct result of her lies. Not by just visiting Edinburgh, but because he was distracted by the presence of Beardy, who Cath/Ali hasn't told him about, likewise Beardy was too, leading to a fight and therefore not keeping a proper eye on the child, who had been through enough upheaval and lies already.

At the very least Cath should have told him and made him wait in the car with Molly, whilst she packed as it was bizarre she'd bring him into her lover's home, when he had no clue and she knew he was seeking a reconciliation. Also she didn't have to tell him about her deception which then led to her agreeing to go back to Sheffield with him.

(Invested, much?! Grin)

MissEliza · 30/08/2017 12:08

Her ego is getting bigger with all the flattery. I never thought of that but that's brilliant. However if there was a second series, I think it will be the nurse who adores her at the moment who will rumble her.
I liked this series much more than Dr Foster. It's a great premise because there are recorded cases of people being caught being doctors.
Dh comes from a family of doctors, although he decided not to go to medical school. Fil didn't get the grades but truly thinks he knows more than doctors. He's always diagnosing people or disagreeing with treatment. I joked last night to dh that his df is the type that would impersonate a doctor. That went down like a lead balloon!

Deliberately not read the thread - watched the first episode but wasn't overly impressed. Is it worth continuing?
