Anyone else looking forward to this?
I like Jodie W since she was in Cranford, and this new 4 part series looks good, plus it has to be an improvement on the rubbish that was on last week in this slot.

Yes, the whole thing is descending into realms of ridiculousness now. It's such a shame- it's just like that other drama earlier in the year- The Replacement. I loved the first episode of that and then it got stupid.

Surely a consultant upon finding out that there is an impostor on his ward would report immediately rather than help cover up for someone he has known for a matter of weeks (even if he is shagging her)? But no, instead he tells her that she's so brilliant at being a fake doctor that it's the best thing that has ever happened to the hospital and even helps her brush up on her fake medical knowledge. I seriously hope that this does not reflect reality in the cases where doctors have been found to have faked their qualifications.

MissEliza · 23/08/2017 20:12

I think it's having the extra money that keeps her there. Remember the scene after she received her first salary and she took her daughter out to a restaurant and told her to order whatever she wanted.

FortunatelyUnfortunately · 23/08/2017 21:57

Kath / Ali has done it because she was unemployable as a sister because she was being investigated. She stays for the money.

Dr Beardy is letting his dick rule his brain.

Boss Doc is drunk and incompetent.

StarHeartDiamond · 23/08/2017 22:16

Kath/Ali does it for the money and also because she thinks she knows better, or as good as, any doctor.

I think her doctor bf has a dark secret of his own to do with his past family which is why he's not as phased by Ali's secret as he should be.

I assume the man with the abscess will be brain damaged and the falsified notes will come under scrutiny. Possibly Brigette will be sacked for being incompetent and drunk, and Ali will drop Brigette in it regarding Brigette's disclosure of her past mistakes (including the girl who died of meningitis who she had discharged) in order to save her own skin.

Maybe Ali will then be offered Brigette's more senior role Shock

But her own child will have an accident when she's with her incompetent dad, and end up in A&E where Ali's deception will be unmasked in a dramatic fashion Smile

What is the undercover person (big chap with beard who applied plaster to woman's arm) supposed to be looking for in the department?
Manager in suit was having the conversation with Bridget but never said why they were putting big beard in just to watch.
Could that be something to do with beardy bf?
Agree with pp that Dr beard has something to hide too.
Am enjoying it and am happy to ignore the bits that would be too ridiculous if given much thought.

waterlego6064 · 24/08/2017 06:36

I think beardy is about to get pretty nasty. He hasn't blown the whistle on Cath because he sees an opportunity to have control over her. She's vulnerable and she knows it!

His kids were mentioned in this episode, and he kind of brushed off the question about them and why he doesn't really see them. He wanted to move in with Cath really early on- that can often be a hallmark of a controlling/abusive partner.

He's a bad'un, you mark my words. I reckon he'll end up trying to kill her and maybe her dopey ex will step in and save the day?

(Incidentally, the ex... every time I look at him, I just remember Neil dry-humping that woman on the party boat 😂 Anyone else?)

Italiangreyhound · 24/08/2017 20:22

Anyone else think beardy doc is trying to recreate his lost family and drunk sergeant Barbara Havers, I mean boss doc, is going to regret telling Cath about the time she allowed a child to die?

I think it's brilliant viewing. Interesting that real, incompetent, drunk doc is worse than fake doc - so far!

Italiangreyhound · 24/08/2017 20:24

I had to look up the ex to see it was Neil from the in -betweeners

scrabbler3 · 24/08/2017 20:30

I liked the premise of this and the cast is great. However, as a pp said, its become a little farcical, like the Replacement. I'm hoping for a strong final ep and a good twist though.

Wingedharpy · 24/08/2017 21:04

And, it's called Trust Me, but clearly, none of them can be trusted.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 24/08/2017 23:23

Dh pointed out it's 'Trust Me ,I'm a Doctor' which I am clearly too dense to have figure out myself!

MissEliza · 25/08/2017 00:28

Please don't let it end like The Replacement! Unfortunately if they're going to wind it up in one episode if may descend into the ridiculous next week

StarHeartDiamond · 25/08/2017 07:01

I know, The Replacement was great until the last episode - the bit where she fell off the building was a real cliffhanger and then it just went downhill from there Sad

I think they've managed to make three good if slightly incredulous episodes so there a good chance they'll wrap it up in the same manner (hopeful)

thenewaveragebear1983 · 25/08/2017 07:17

The pre-clip for next week made it look like beardy and cath/allie discuss that they have to drop Bridget in it to deflect attention from cath, as they will be looking into the notes from the treatment of abscess guy.

I'm sure in the early scenes that allie/cath told people she'd gone to nz with a sheep farmer, and that she'd fallen in love with him?? I did wonder if that was true (as in her relationship broke down because she loved her friend's boyfriend) or whether she was playing 'Alison' at that time.

I think I'm the last episode Bridget will get hauled over the coals, and then the real Alison Sutton will come back, and cath will either run off/return to Sheffield, or we'll see the police turn up right in the last scene and be left to imagine it ourselves (kind of how they did with Broadchurch where they left a million open plot lines)

StarHeartDiamond · 25/08/2017 08:11

Thenewaverage - Cath/Ali was playing along with the part of Ali when she told Brigette she'd gone to NZ to be with her boyfriend, but it hadn't worked out so she came back. She was being pressured to reveal more about her relationships by a gossipy Brigette so she stayed close to her part. I don't think it was trying to insinuate that Cath/Ali was in love with the real Ali's boyfriend.

GingerLemonTea · 29/08/2017 20:13

Can't wait for tonight's episode.

teaandakitkat · 29/08/2017 21:08

Please let it have a satisfying ending. I'll be so disappointed if not.

There is something very suspicious about Dr Beardy, he's going to be in the shit too when they find out he's been covering for her. What's he up to?

ASauvingnonADay · 29/08/2017 21:16

Watching but ten mins behind. Feel tense about tonight's episode!

Scrumpington · 29/08/2017 21:53

Oh beardy doctor has her in his tangly web now...

Does anyone else get pissed off every time she freezes during a high stress situation? Argh!

RedCrab · 29/08/2017 21:58

What did beardy doctor say to her at the end? I missed it. Ssshhhhhh, DH!

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 21:59

SSSSSSSSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHHHHHIIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTTTT!

Italiangreyhound · 29/08/2017 21:59

What an ending!

MsJolly · 29/08/2017 21:59

I must admit to having enjoyed it. Knew McBeardy was a bad 'un. Haven't watched the last episode yet but not afraid of spoilers-I generally read the last page first in books (which is where I get so annoyed with my kindle!)

teaandakitkat · 29/08/2017 22:00

Wow. So there will be another series to come sometime....

Scrumpington · 29/08/2017 22:00

Weak ending. It was a bit like an old fashioned Tales of the Unexpected with the poor sap of the ex husband being the collateral damage. Realistically though how long could you adopt someone's identity in that kind of world? Just silly.
