Anyone else looking forward to this?
I like Jodie W since she was in Cranford, and this new 4 part series looks good, plus it has to be an improvement on the rubbish that was on last week in this slot.

It is brilliant moon. Watch it all.

Italiangreyhound · 30/08/2017 14:18

StarHeartDiamond yes you are way too invested! Wink

BUT had they waited in the car then the drama would not be ongoing, thinking (hoping) second series!

The dad was in the wrong making her try and leave the man she was living with. So she had not told him but they were long since broken up. He thought he would intimidate the doctor and he failed.

Of course beardy doctor failed to shut the door. So partly his fault.

Italiangreyhound · 30/08/2017 14:20

StarHeartDiamond her daughter taken ill?? that's dark. No way! Actually I think you cannot operate/assist whatever a friend/relative when a doctor, which is why she was asked to step away from her friend when she was ill.

By the way, anyone, did she miss the friend's illness just because she didn't turn the paper over and see results on back of chart?

woodhill · 30/08/2017 14:42

Where are beardy' ex wife and dc. Did I miss something

PoppyPopcorn · 30/08/2017 15:16

We don't know. It was implied that they'd split up, and she had the kids. But who knows.

CoolCarrie · 30/08/2017 15:37

I thought the medical side of it was well done, and liked the ending too. We went between routing for her and wanting her to get caught. I think it should stand as it is, no second series.

I missed the ending. Can someone summarise it for me!!

DianaBlythe · 30/08/2017 20:08

It wasn't that she didn't look at the back of the chart. The friend had what is called a posterior ST-elevation myocardial infarction. In other words a heart attack affecting the back of the heart.

ST elevation refers to the change you can see on the ECG tracing. If they have ST elevation then they need to go to the Cath lab now. You can also have heart attacks without ST elevation and they can usually safely go to the Cath lab the next day after medical treatment.

When it's at the back of the heart it looks the wrong way around, so you think you can't see any ST elevation. When you turn it upside down it looks like a "normal" ST elevation heart attack.

It's not uncommon for posterior STEMIs to be missed and interpreted as non ST-elevation. A good trick to turn the ECG upside down if you're not sure!

StarHeartDiamond · 30/08/2017 20:49

Diana - wow! You must work in a cardiology unit? The thing is, although it could be missed by a doctor, ay least they would have had the proper training in the first place. As a staff nurse, as she is trained, it wouldn't be her role to make diagnoses (although I'm sure many could but not officially iyswim?)

PoppyPopcorn · 30/08/2017 20:58

The ending: Cath/Ali decides she's running away. But her ex turns up and she tells him she's been impersonating a doctor. They decide to run away together, with their daughter. They go back to Beardy Doctor;s house to pack. He turns up. Daughter runs into street - husband follows and is hit by car. He's ok, but dies suddenly in hospital and it's implied that Bearded Doc did it.

Bridget is rumbled as being pretty useless and takes time out to address her alcoholism. Cath/Ali is asked to step up and manage the department. She accepts, and the last shot is her inroducing herself to a new patient as "Ali, a senior doctor".

Italiangreyhound · 30/08/2017 21:38

Diana thank you.

Papergirl1968 · 31/08/2017 00:21

This is probably a silly question, but the fat nurse who was arrested for stealing...was she not the same fat nurse who popped up several times later on in the episode, including taking the little girl out when her dad's condition suddenly deteriorated?

Italiangreyhound · 31/08/2017 01:51

There were two larger female nurses.

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 02:06

Okay, I can overlook a lot, but HOW did she fake an ID for the DD?

Italiangreyhound · 31/08/2017 02:09

Why did she need a fake ID for the child SerfTerf? The child had a different name to her, I think, judging by the name peg at nursery. Presumably she had the same name as her dad.

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 02:13

In case anyone comes after them (?)

Am I over-dramatising?

Italiangreyhound · 31/08/2017 02:15

Who would come after them? The only one coming after them was her ex who knew her as the contact.

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 02:15

I think full school files follow transfer students anyway. Including parents names.

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 02:16

Hmm. You might be right. I shouldn't do my catch up viewing so late.

Italiangreyhound · 31/08/2017 02:18

Serfterf I think child is meant to be pre-school. It's nursery child care which the mum pays for, not school.

(I am indeed over-invested!)

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 02:20

Ah, well then she'll slip on mum's name and the "let's pretend" plan at some point Grin

You don't trust your secret to a preschooler! Amateur Smile

It is more gripping than expected, isn't it?

Italiangreyhound · 31/08/2017 03:20

"Ah, well then she'll slip on mum's name and the "let's pretend" plan at some point"

No they practiced it, Molly said "Your name's Ali but I can still call you Mummy."

It's brill....

SerfTerf · 31/08/2017 03:38

Yes I saw them practise it. That's why I'm worried; "My mummy used to be called X and now she's called Y, but I can still call her Mummy".

I'm totally over involved aren't I? 😂

UsedToBeAPaxmanFan · 31/08/2017 07:19

Am I the only one who thinks something odd might have happened to Beardy's ex wife and kids? I did wonder if they had all been killed in an accident. There's no mention of them, and the kids never seem to come and stay with him.

I kept waiting for Bridget to say something to Ali like "I'm so pleased he's now happy after going through such tragedy" (or words to that effect) leaving Ali wondering but no.

PoppyPopcorn · 31/08/2017 07:35

I grew up in Edinburgh and spent half my time spotting the locations rather than watching the drama so porbably missed half the important points... Bearded Doctor lived in a very posh house in the New Town probably worth over a million (on an NHS salary??) and the "hospital" I think was one of the University buildings just by the Meadows.

Also last week when he took her to the "Highlands" they were in Dumgoyne, just north of Glasgow.
