The difference between Jon & Yara is specifically mentioned when Dany first makes the offer to Yara - Tyrion warns her that if she gives into the iron islands when they demand autonomy all the other kingdoms will want it to, and Dany says that Yara didn't demand, she asked, and the other kingdoms are free to ask too. Jon didn't ask, he just rocked up having already announced himself as King in the North.

Also at the time Yara was Dany's first westeros ally, and brought her
a much needed fleet whereas when Jon arrives she thinks she has the full support of the Iron islands, Dorne and Highgarden, plus he bought her sweet FA other than treason and additional troubles.

So quite a fair difference!

However I did like how he pointed out that Dany's 'claim' to the iron throne is that her ancestors once held it - you know in exactly the same way his ancestors were kings in the North! So you can't support one and ignore the other.

I enjoyed the episode. Loved Olennas confession at the end. But who's to say she's really dead? Could it not be like milk of the poppy to knock her out then tie her up in a dungeon? Or even she may have a secret antidote hidden in her drawer that she swallows after Jamie leaves. We didn't see her die and as this is GoT I wouldn't assume dead unless actually dead. And even then they tend to return.

The one thing that really really annoys me is the amount of time the show covers. Travelling across the sea from winterfell to dragon stone, travelling from dorne to kings landing. How much time did last season cover? Yet Cersie's hair still has barely grown!! Surely by now it should at least be shoulder length. It really annoys me (much more then the accent thing)

Bran was weird. Sansa was so excited bless her then like omg, weird! Can't wait for the Arya reunion. I'd also like to see the hound meet up with Arya and Sansa as he built a "friendship" (using that term loosely) with both.

WingMirrorSpider · 31/07/2017 22:44

Mel told Varys that she (Mel) would die in Westeros and so would he.

Remember last series when that other red priestess came to see Dany and was able to unnerve Varys by telling him about his de-penissing, which shook him up. I think he's a bit wary now of what red priestesses have to say.

Love both the series and the books. So here's my tuppence worth. (Long arse post I'm afraid)

  1. I'm glad that Jon and Dany didn't have mutual sparks flying as so many people would like. She can't have kids, so putting them two on the throne together would just lead to problems with the succession in another 30 or so years (less if the typical lifespan on this show is anything to go by)

  2. I'm hoping that it's not gonna be Sam Saves the Day by finding a recipe for valerian steel in the old scrolls. Seriously, what are the maesters (so?) doing with all this info they're sitting on?

  3. Was I the only one hoping Brienne would sneak up behind Littlefinger and stab him when he was wittering on?

  4. Jamie is now torn between his siblings. Tyrion killed his father and Cersei has become the mad queen. I'm of the mind that Jamie is the valonquar who will choke Cersei to death. ("Jamie came into this world holding onto my foot") So maybe a change of heart? (If he ever needs a trial by combat I reckon he should get Brianne to be his champion)

  5. what are Beric's lot up to? Seems a whole lot of nothing. Bring back the Hound! His brother needs putting down.

There's more but I've waffled on for long enough.

Illyn Payne was written out because the actor had "terminal cancer". The doctors adopted an approach not dissimilar to Sam's treatment of Ser Jorah and what's left of him is now basically fine. It would be lovely to see him back in GOT.

WingMirrorSpider · 31/07/2017 22:49

Yeah, I'm not too keen on new, staring into the middle distance, enigmatic Bran.

I bet he was shit company for Meera on the ride (drag?) south.

WinifredAtwellsOtherPiano · 31/07/2017 22:49

Bran's conversation with Sansa annoyed me. How hard is it to say "you know how when the King dies someone else becomes King? Well it's like that."

BeyondQueenOfLists · 31/07/2017 22:59

Nah, cause he is the three eyed raven, we just don't know that yet. He time travelled or warged or whatever and it literally was him. It is known Wink

And he was bran the builder too, in some theories Grin

WeDoNotSow · 31/07/2017 23:12

There was a bit in the books, about Old Nan going a bit senile, and 'all Bran Starks had become one person in her mind'
Well, not so senile now, eh?
She's magic, Old Nan

PunjanaTea · 31/07/2017 23:14

That was a great episode, unfortunately it's bed time so can't catch up with the thread.

By way of placemarking I would like to ask the all important question, of why Cersei's hair hasn't grown more since the end of season five?

Ontheboardwalk · 31/07/2017 23:22

Maybe Cersei likes her new short hair style and gets it cut every week? After all she is the Queen

PatriciaBateman · 01/08/2017 00:17

I reckon Cersei will do (or try to do) something terrible to Tyrion and that will push Jaime over the edge into killing her. I also believe he is the "little brother" prophesied to kill her, although Cersei is determined to believe Tyrion is the one.

I think they've spent quite a lot of time building up just how much Cersei hates Tyrion, and how much Jaime cares for him, and I think he is probably the only thing that could actually turn Jaime's loyalty, especially now that he knows Tyrion wasn't to blame for Joffrey's death.

I just hope Tyrion doesn't actually have to die, but I'm not so sure. Sad

CaptainWarbeck · 01/08/2017 00:18

Cersei's hair looks sooo much like a wig, it's very annoying.

So the old man guy 3 eyes raven is now inside Bran's body? Where is Bran? Or have they merged??

WeDoNotSow · 01/08/2017 06:47

Did they even have the little brother bit of the prophecy in the show?

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 06:51

WeDoNotSow no, I don't think they did. There was a younger, more beautiful queen, but no Valonqar.

However, it could be a little sister so it could be just about anyone on the show (apart from unGregor).

My money's on Arya.

AryaUnderfoot · 01/08/2017 07:42

I'll just leave this here...

It's become soap opera but I enjoyed it.

Jon was surprisingly more BookJon. His comments about the Dothtaki and his unimpressedness at Dany's claim were quite amusing.

There were so genuine fanwanking funny moments in there.
(Jon's 'I am no Stark' cue Dragon flying over his head, Tyrion' s comments about pretty broody Jon, Davos trying to pimp out his guy).

All In all enjoyable but so rushed. They've totalled given up on time and travel distance haven't they?
Oh well I want to see how it all ends.

Poor Sansa though.

Middleoftheroad · 01/08/2017 08:18

Re-watched. I liked the Dany/Jon bit where she says something like 'you'd better get to work Jon Snow' it had an echo of 'you know nothing Jon Snow'.

Also, comedy bit when Davos is chatting to Messindi and she stops engaging in conversation and he turns to Jon and says 'this place has changed!'

The final scene of the trailer for ep4 has Arya overlooking Winterfell Grin

Sleepthief84 · 01/08/2017 08:27

Does anyone have a link for the trailer?

EllaHen · 01/08/2017 08:30

Ha ha AryaUnderfoot - I said to dh "who the fuck does Littlefinger think he is - Schrodinger?"

Agree with everyone - Bran is woeful.

Loved hearing Tyrion saying 'Saaawnsa'. Can actually write how he says it but I love it and I've missed it.

Have you seen the meme with Olenna Tyrell with text saying 'I won't saying anything bad, One drink later ...'? I can't bloody find it but it did make me laugh.

Middleoftheroad · 01/08/2017 08:47

sleepthief - Emergency Awesome is my favpurite Youtuber. His episode and trailer breakdowns (link to ep4) are great

Middleoftheroad · 01/08/2017 08:59

These guys crack me up too (The Last Harpy is good too). Ep3 review below

DispatchReady · 01/08/2017 09:16

Just watched - I liked the episode overall but still feel like the dialogue is somehow not quite right - can't put my finger on why though!

I really hate Euron in the same way I hate Negan in The Walking Dead - not scary just irritating and a big caricature! There's no subtlety or back story of why he's nasty, unlike with Ramsay.

Cersei is so evil, it was quite stressful wondering what on earth she was going to do! Great acting though - when she quivered talking about Myrcella.

RIP Olenna but glad she got the last word in!

I don't know why it's a shorter season - it just feels so rushed and it's missing those slow little scenes that you think don't mean much but they are subtle in moving things along and character insights.

Bran has gone weird! So irritating - just give a straight answer mate! And poor Meera - totally ignored Confused

Hmmmm still loving it but feeling a lot more critical and I'm not the only one judging by all your comments!
