The Hound is dead. Sandor Clegane is at rest.

He is the nodded cowled Gravedigger that Brienne comes across in A Feast For Crows on the Quiet Isle. He's not been 'officially' identified as such in the books, but it's now all but confirmed.

What GRRM's purpose for him is is not clear, but it's certainly nothing to do with the BWB. Beric is most definitely dead, and the Hound is a wanted man as the Butcher of Saltpans (for which he is not guilty).

AryaUnderfoot · 31/07/2017 19:05

Nodded? Hooded.

MarvellousMonsters · 31/07/2017 19:18

I'm going to have to re-read the books now. It's been several years since I read Feast for Crows, but I was sure he was dead when Arya left him.

Now I'm completely confused Confused

Ontheboardwalk · 31/07/2017 19:21

Adalind i initially thought that about Jaime then remembered Tyrion killed their Dad which created the power vacuum for the Sparrow. I'm thinking Jaime's prob not ready to forgive and forget just yet!

AryaUnderfoot · 31/07/2017 19:26

Arya left him dying under a tree with an infected leg wound after their fight at the inn.

Later Brienne is looking for him as she thinks he's with Sansa. She goes to the Quiet Isle and meets the Elder Brother who says he came across the dying Hound under the tree, buried him and put his helm on top of the grave. On the Quiet Isle Brienne sees a very large gravedigger with a limp who takes a liking to Dog (Septon Meribald's Dog).

Stranger, the Hound's horse, is also on the Quiet Isle. He is a monstrously foul-tempered horse which is even more evidence for Sandor being on the Isle with him as he probably wouldn't 'behave' for anyone else.

Rorge later comes across the Hound's helm and uses it when raping/murdering his way round Saltpans. Brienne kills him and takes the helm. It's after that that she is taken to Lady Stoneheart.

Urghh, I know this all far too well - I sound like such a geek!

Haven't read the full thread yet will go back and catch up but did anyone else roar laughing at 'a finger up the bum'?! Me and OH fell about. Euron is vile and set to be a real baddie but so far I'm finding him quite comical, with that and the 'raaarrrrrr' pirate but he did last week.

paulapantsdown · 31/07/2017 21:06

I suppose it doesn't matter anymore about anyone knowing about Jamie and Cersei as all their children are dead anyway?

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 31/07/2017 21:27

Totally fell about laughing at finger up the bum and "Joffrey, what a cunt"! Puerile, me?

I am annoyed that Tyrion's earlier prowess in out-thinking Cersei is abandoning him along with his witty tongue.

Bran was very irritating. How hard is it to say that the last three eyed Raven taught him? It's not that bloody difficult to explain! Liked the weirwood tree, though. And I started to well up when Sansa hugged Bran but then the moment was ruined by his twattishness.

Melisandre buggering off seemed awfully contrived, too. As was Davos "accidentally" letting slip that Jon had died for the Night's Watch.

Trills · 31/07/2017 21:38

Bran is refusing to speak in a straight sentence.

The kindest interpretation is that he's so addled by being able to see the past that he can't say "I was taught by a magic dude, he's dead now, I have his powers, it's a bit of a pain".

AryaUnderfoot · 31/07/2017 21:53

I'm not surprised Meera is looking so worn out. She's had to listen to Dr Branhatten for months now...

TheSecondOfHerName · 31/07/2017 21:56

I really liked this episode.

I loved it when Danaerys called Tyrion out for trying to pass off his ideas as ancient wisdom.

Sad to see Oleanna go, but she got the last word.

littlepinkgiraffe · 31/07/2017 22:02

Our favourite bit tonight was the introduction of John after all of daeny's titles - this is john snow, he's the king of the north Grin

Where was aria tonight though? Will she ever be reunited with family?

susurration · 31/07/2017 22:06

A few thoughts:

Cersei's treatment of Tyene and Ellaria totally predictable.

When did it become fairly common knowledge about Jaime and Cersei's relationship that both Euron and Olenna make casual references to it?

Why is Bronn so high up in the Lannister army and not with Tyrion anymore? did we see this previously and I've just forgotten?

Didn't we already know, or wasn't it hinted, that Olenna was the one to kill Joffrey?

This series is much more boring and predictable than previous series. I guess it is because we have now moved away from book canon.

ClashCityRocker · 31/07/2017 22:17

Re Bronn, in the book cersei makes him a lord and gives him a wife to switch his allegiance to her and away from Tyrion. Think it is alluded to in the series.

So far as I can tell the rumour that cersei and Jaime are loves is widespread - Stannis sent a gazillion ravens out way back with instructions for men to read the letters out load presumably so the commoners would get it.

I enjoyed that episode, though. I hope Jon and dany don't end up doing that 'hate each other, hate each other, suddenly start necking' thing.

ClashCityRocker · 31/07/2017 22:18

Well I say rumour, Obviously it's a fact!

WeDoNotSow · 31/07/2017 22:20

Sansa's too thick to trust with any sort of info. Bran knows he's gotta talk a bit of shot to her, other wise she'll run back and tell little finger everything.
Being a greenseer is a headfuck, hes allowed to talk earnestly, with meaning, that know one else understands, very slowly, whilst gazing off into the distance.

Sleepthief84 · 31/07/2017 22:21

I loved Olenna's last scene. Talk about a mic drop! She was one of the best characters.

BossyBitch · 31/07/2017 22:24

I enjoyed that episode, though. I hope Jon and dany don't end up doing that 'hate each other, hate each other, suddenly start necking' thing.

I'm just about willing to bet a month's salary that there WILL be sex between those two before this season is over.

Mark my words!

iklboo · 31/07/2017 22:27

Didn't Bronn teach Jaime to fight left handed with a sword?

missyB1 · 31/07/2017 22:28

I always found Bran an irritating git - no change there!
Jon Snow and Danaerys are definitely going to end up snogging.

iklboo · 31/07/2017 22:29

Quick question - I'm off on my hols in a couple of weeks & have downloaded the first 5 books on my kindle (that saves 20kg in books in me luggage!). Good to read or will I lose myself & not see a flipping thing of Norway?

ClashCityRocker · 31/07/2017 22:30

I thought that was See Ilyn aka silent Bob (what happened to him anyway?) but may be confusing the book and the series.

MaryPoppinsPenguins · 31/07/2017 22:34

What did Melisandre say to Varys?? DH was like 'ooooh!' And I have no idea what it meant!

Yeah I thought that was an odd exchange with varys.
