And Federer is through.

Roger through, I'm happy - he must be odds on favourite now ( well he always was with me)

Raahh · 12/07/2017 18:35

Grouchy he does, because Federer can't get any higher than 3rd, if he wins.

But if he is injured, then he will be in trouble going forward as Rafa is very close behind, and Murray is the one with points to defend now, as this is where Djok's rot set in last year ( though he won in Montreal, which is coming up).

Gotta be Roger's tournament now.

GrouchyKiwi · 12/07/2017 18:40

Thanks Raahh.

I love the way Andy reminds people that women exist too: twitter.com/i/moments/885174909181333505

AmIthatbloodycold · 12/07/2017 18:43

Aww. Just heard most of Andy's press conference. Bless him, he's always complimentary to his opponent and no excuses Smile

JaneJeffer · 12/07/2017 18:45

I love that Andy always points out that women play too! Fair play to him.

Djok must be so disappointed but I'm glad Berdych is through.

Roger is in amazing form. Good idea to skip the clay.

SueMacartney · 12/07/2017 18:47

Yes Grouchy! He did that too at the last Olympics. John Inverdale (who else?!) said something to him (can't remember what) and he was like actually Serena Williams has done that too, whatever it was.

Also has said yesterday I think that if the women have a better match on the schedule than the men then they should go on the bigger court. (Over kerber's match being on court 2).

Am gutted for Andy.

MajesticWhine · 12/07/2017 18:53

John Inverdale. As irritating as ever I noticed today and talking absolute drivel. My dog was providing me with more insight.

Goingtobeawesome · 12/07/2017 18:57

My dog loves her paddling pool and we've found duct tape works really well when her claws puncture it Grin🐕

Here is the video if anyone is interested - https://twitter.com/jamiemacc_/status/885189154128224257

The journalist just laughs it off 🙄.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 12/07/2017 19:42

Love Andy just a little bit more than before if that's possible!

AmIthatbloodycold · 12/07/2017 19:49

Yes Sue he did give his opinion on scheduling and agreed that it could be improved, in an interview I saw with Sue Barker this morning.

Quite clear that he cares about it and about fairness

Doubles is weirdly compelling viewing.

Raahh · 12/07/2017 21:03

Interestingly, (to me anyway, cos I like a stat Grin)as the rankings currently stand, none of the top 4 ranked men are through to the semi finals. Federer is ranked 5th.

It has to be a while since that has been the case (in the men's at least ).

I don't watch a lot of doubles, but it can suck me in sometimes. I used to love the Woodies. They were lovely.

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2017 21:07

I love doubles and mixed too. It's a completely different game though. I love watching the eye formation!

So, after having watched "Today at Wimbledon", it looks like Muller versus Cilic was the match of the day. Fair play to Gilles for stretching it to 5 sets, as he must still have been tired after his match with Rafa. Andy Murray looked in real pain at times. I wouldn't be surprised if both he and Djokovic end up taking time off and missing the U.S. Open. I was surprised at how quiet the crowd were during his match though. I would have expected them to try to boost him more than that.

Raahh · 12/07/2017 21:31

I'm sure Djok's baby is due around the US Open .I always wondered if he would be absent then because of it. He really should do himself a favour and focus on that. At Australia, when he lost early, he looked really wistful talking about Stefan. I wonder how much he sees him. I think now is the time to have a real re-think about his life.

Berdych was trying to get the crowd to cheer as they were leaving court - it was really telling that the crowd were not behind him. I do think that has always been a big part of Djok's problem. This won't help him , psychologically.

Creme I love the whispering into the sweatbands that goes on in doubles. It's like being a spy Grin

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2017 21:34

As much as I can't stand him, I have actually started feeling a bit sorry for Djokovic over the last few months. It's not nice to see someone with a lot of talent lose their way, and become as disorientated and disillusioned as he seems to be.

CremeEggThief · 12/07/2017 21:35

Yes, Raah. It's all about the subterfuge!

Raahh · 12/07/2017 21:40

Creme No, I agree. His fall , over the last year , since he won he French, and thought people would finally take him seriously- has been steep. Plenty of 'great' players never won at RG- Sampras, Edberg- but Novak seemed obsessed by it . And when it came, the adulation, the inclusion in the GOAT conversation- it didn't happen.

Because there's more to it than just winning, and it's hard to explain.

OP posts:
CremeEggThief · 12/07/2017 21:43

I think that he still didn't get the respect and admiration he craved, and not having Roger and Rafa to spur him on, as they were out injured, really messed with his head.

Raahh · 12/07/2017 21:46

Creme yes, he needs them around. It's no good winning, if you aren't beating your nemesis.
