Tennis Tennis Tennis

Am most excited & thought the grass needs a new thread.

I'll stick my neck out & say Fed to win the mens' & Carolina Plisshkova (sp?) for the womens'.

OP posts:

I hope they put Rafa on centre tomorrow- not sure why he warranted being the one of the 'big 4' put on number 1.

Fizzywinegum · 04/07/2017 17:17

Yes even if you're not a Djoko fan (I'm not!) would still have expected to see some good matches

Raahh · 04/07/2017 17:21

Oh, good to see Marcos is through. I do like Baghdatis.

JaneJeffer · 04/07/2017 17:26

I like Baghdatis too. The centre court crowd must be hoping no one else gets injured today!

Raahh · 04/07/2017 17:28

It would be very bad luck if anyone else retired.

I've just seen that Edberg was watching Roger today. I bet he was hoping for a longer match too!

IHateUncleJamie · 04/07/2017 17:32

Pleased for Fed as nobody of 35 needs a punishing 1st round match, but the spectators must have been gutted. 😟

Drama Funnily enough I was showing teen dd (she loves Mac) the "you cannot be serious" clip and she said "but he was right, Mum". He was - can't help thinking that he'd have been a lot less bratty had Hawkeye been around then. He could have just challenged and moved on. ☺️

Raahh · 04/07/2017 17:32

I'm turned over to Dimitrov/Schwartzman, who was very impressive at RG, and came so close to beating Novak. But I think Grigor is looking like he means business today.

DramaAlpaca · 04/07/2017 17:34

Oh but he wouldn't have been so much fun IHate Grin

Raahh · 04/07/2017 17:49

Schwartzman is very little- in comparison to your average player. He's about 5ft 7, I think.

Still nearly a foot taller than me though Grin

The80sweregreat · 04/07/2017 17:51

Mac would have argued with hawkeye.
He just likes arguing.

trixymalixy · 04/07/2017 17:55

Can anyone help me? I'm in Denmark so can't watch the BBC Wimbledon coverage on iplayer. Does anyone know how/where I can watch it?

Raahh · 04/07/2017 18:00

Oh, trixy I don't know, but hopefully someone can help.

tv schedules wordwide I found this list, not sure if it helps?

BagelGoesWalking · 04/07/2017 18:16

Gaaah, too many matches to see! Glad to have seen last set of DelPo earlier. Watched a bit of Wozniaki and now settled on Thiem & Pospisil 🎾

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 04/07/2017 18:17

Have you seen this? Another charming young Aussie Hmm

Tomic's press conference

BagelGoesWalking · 04/07/2017 18:20

Trixy Eurosport1 seems to have a highlights show at 22:00-23:30 UK Time repeated at 08:25-10:00 the next morning

BagelGoesWalking · 04/07/2017 18:23

TheOnlyLiving What an arse!! Taking the place of someone who really, really wants it. He also said this (further down in the same BBC page)

He said: "I think I don't respect the sport enough. You know, I'm going to play another 10 years, and I know after my career I won't have to work again."

Idiot

Raahh · 04/07/2017 18:26

Tomic is an idiot. Always has been really, him and his dad. And a wasted talent. Didn't he say something once about it not mattering that he hadn't really fulfilled his potential, he was still worth millions? Knob.

Raahh · 04/07/2017 18:27

x post. Seems he is still saying the same things then. Maybe he should just stop playing, him and Kyrgios, and let the ones who want to do it, have a chance.

Peregrina · 04/07/2017 19:24

Am I the only one who is a bit annoyed that both Djoko and Federer's opponents went into their matches already injured? I was just settling down for a nice afternoon watching tennis and then first one match then the next were aborted. I just felt it was a bit selfish of both players - there would have been others who had just missed places in the draw who would have been only too glad to have a chance to play on Centre Court against two of the world's top ranked players - even if they did no more than win the odd game or two.

trixymalixy · 04/07/2017 19:28

Thanks. I've managed to use a vpn thing called tunnel bear to watch iplayer.

SamBob · 04/07/2017 19:36

I got the impression from McEnroe's comments that if they didn't play they wouldn't get paid for the first round. And I suppose if you're not a really high ranked player the money for the 1st round of a Grand Slam is very significant, you can't just walk away from that.

IHateUncleJamie · 04/07/2017 20:13

That is a good point about Mac arguing with Hawkeye Grin I bet he would have done, but he wouldn't have been quite as infuriated.

Is Murray playing tomorrow? I have a long hospital appointment - if he is playing, I hope he's not first on. 🙁

JaneJeffer · 04/07/2017 20:16

Ah it would have been no fun if Mac had hawkeye!

I never liked Tomic. The Australian people must despair of their tennis players.

TheOnlyLivingBoyInNewCross · 04/07/2017 20:18

Lopez has retired injured too although he gave it a heroic go out on Court 16, lasting for nearly four sets before admitting defeat. What an odd day!

thereallochnessmonster · 04/07/2017 20:19

Feliciano Lopez retiring - is that bad sportsmanship? He seemed to be playing fine. Was only potentially 8 points from losing...
