TENNIS THREAD - Wimbledon starts tomorrow!!

Am most excited & thought the grass needs a new thread.

I'll stick my neck out & say Fed to win the mens' & Carolina Plisshkova (sp?) for the womens'.

My favourite has got to be Rafa - he seems like a really nice guy and I love his style of tennis (though not good for his knees!) I also have big respect for Roger and like his style of play but don't love him in the same way that I love Rafa

Back in the day my favourite player was Lendl (yes really!) - I was really sad that he never won Wimbledon

I'm the same as Jane, McEnroe was my favourite back in the day & now it's Rafa.

On the women's side I thought Steffi Graf was wonderful.

His tennis was sublime , but hated his temperament .
I loved watching him play doubles

Fizzy - I was a huge Lendl fan too! I used to be gutted each year when he invariably lost at Wimbledon.

Yes book Mac was an amazing doubles player, such a natural volleyer.

Rafa all the way now, although I love Federer's play, Murray's dour determination, and Stan's - quirkiness? Can't stand Djokovic.

They are going to close the roof.?Surely they have a bit of time yet? It ought to be over soon.

They are desperate for Rafa to lose, the British commentators, aren't they? Ffs. They revel in his losses. They gloss over Murray's pretty quick.

Oh sorry, it's his hip that caused his loss at Queen's

I haven't been watching tennis for that long - not really possible in NZ because of time difference and it all being on Sky - so Andy Murray is probably my favourite ever, though I always liked Andre Agassi.

Steffi Graf and Monica Seles would be up there for the women, plus Sabine Lisicki.

TheOnly nice to meet a fellow Lendl fan! I was pleased that Murray won Wimbledon when Lendl was his coach

I like Lendl, but I'm really not a Murray fan.

Ivan's best chance was against Pat Cash in 87. I do think Pat was lucky. And the climbing up the player's box thing annoyed me

Raahh - I just got very cranky indeed when they listed all the players Rafa has lost to again at Wimbledon...

I am very glad this match got played tonight, though.

TheOnly I know, it drives me nuts.

They don't ever do it about any other player. I really do think they love to see him lose, I don' know why.

Pat cash annoys me just seeing his name or all craggy faced at wimbledon. Climbing up to the box started a bad trend too. He gives me the rage more than Feds and his special gold trainers, superior attitude etcetc.
Some tennis stars are but divas. Rant over.

80s I agree it started a rubbish trend. No wonder they moved things around, so they can't do it now.

I thought Murray did the climb once too! Glad its stopped.
Sharapova and her mobile antics was also annoying.
I tell you, they make Mariah cary look humble.

Federer's cardigan was a low point...

I know he is a legend, but Feds is too smug at times.

Im not sure why i dislike him so much when ive never met him and never will. No doubt he is a champ and everything, but ill be pleased when he retires! Although he will become a commentator then i suppose. No rest for years.

Oh - but Roger Federer is lovely... he does so much in Switzerland and for charity and isn't smug at all. This sounds like I know him and of course I don't but I've followed him closely for years and he genuinely has a lovely heart. And at his peak, was sublime to watch.

He's not the only one with personalised kit but I will admit to hating the cardies

Konta v Vekic was match of the day for me -

And was made by Sam Smith & Kim Klisters (sp?) commentating. Those two knock Boris, Mac, 'Enman etc into the box.

They knew when to keep quiet & what they said was interesting.
